Man I just want to get back to making music.
But this is a much broader issue that hopefully this brings to light
Again though, for anyone thinking this situation is absurd, or wrong, or outright illegal, just remember smaller artists have been abused by this system for years now and RU-vid has refused to try to fix whats clearly broken.
And to be clear, I recognize the importance of copyright law, but RU-vid's Content ID system is not upholding the law at this point, its just creating avenues for real scumbags to scam channels out of any hard earned revenue they have.
Here's to my channel being mysteriously deleted in the next few days

I mean Bungie isn't even safe from Copyright shennagins on RU-vid so individual creators who are established corporations have a massive uphill battle with RU-vid. Last I heard Bungie was looking at legal action to take against RU-vid due to how severely lacking their support was which damaged Bungie's reputation.

My first music which I own copyright of was claimed by a random company and it was super frustrating to deal with. It was at least good that the distributor and record label I work for sorted it out. But man do I hate RU-vid for this absolute garbage system

First the Act Man situation that, to my knowledge, RU-vid continues to ignore and actively try to silence conversation on - and now LoFi Girl. Somehow, for some reason, RU-vid is actively allowing terrible people to threaten and ruin the livelihoods of hardworking people using their own content while punishing those victims for being attacked. And you are right: if it's happening to these massive channels who have millions of people supporting them and even have contacts at RU-vid, it's happening to smaller channels who practically nobody knows about and who do not have the reach necessary to get help. It is sickening to see and very clear that somebody at RU-vid doesn't deserve the job and power they have.

this bad copyright system has existed long before lofi girl #WTFU became a thing for a bit in 2016. the copyright system even had struck me back then, and i wasn't even making music. youtube doesn't care because youtube doesn't want to get into a lawsuit with copyright companies.

This has been happening for years now. Random companies use automated tech to find music that they "Own" the performance rights to. In reality almost every time I have been hit it was completely false and based on some snippet of music that just sounds close to what they own. Even on a smaller channel like mine any video that hits a certain amount of views and has almost any sort of music outside of the YT library or incomptech will get claimed.

Honestly speaking, I think that the main blame perfectly goes to RU-vid. I have a friend who's also a Malaysian somehow got his music video got copyrighted by some other music stealing channel. This happens to anyone and honestly this is just the biggest case of the common problem with RU-vid copyright process system. I've heard a lot but since this incident happened to literally the largest lofi channel on yt, finally people are more aware of how fucked up RU-vid can be. Don't get me started how yt has already been shit with its yt premium and shitton of ads and the reputation of its getting worse year by year

The problem is that it's very easy to be a copyright troll on YT. All you need is to show YT that you own some sort of copyrighted content outside of YT and want to have the option to automatic copyright strike if your companies content gets uploaded on YT. When you get that option you can pretty much click on any rising video and copyright strike it. In the past you even got to keep the money if you released it after 29 days but these days you don't get to keep it. But you can strike as much videos as you want and if a few videos each month don't counter the claim you rake in all the profits. This can be a good income when you live in a third world country where copyright law and scams like these are rarely punished.

That graphic is used in HUNDREDS of places, i never actually heard of Lofigirl, sucidesheep i heard of a lot though. Almost all the channels like lofigirl just rehash the same stuff though. That said, the reason youtube lets it happen is because i suspect its training its A.I to do this, they want a complete hands off approach to it, which would be nice, but not being able to resolve when it messes up is annoying. Big channels can sometimes get it fixed, but imagine being someone starting out and get channel shut down and no recourse and just give up.

I dont think it is fair to place blame on youtube . The copyright process just is not where it should be with the digital age that we live in. If X company claims Y video and youtube thinks X is lying and does not take video down/redirect revenue and they are wrong, now youtube culpable also. The copyright claiming process needs to be completely redone. A new entity needs to exist to deal with it. File a claim with them, and when it is finished either the copy who stole it needs to pay the owner lost revenue, or the fake copyright holders need to have action against them. Or something. its dinner time. also, noooo lofi-hiphop
