Longboard racing requires a lot of tactical awareness and a very good understanding of the conditions such as tidal or wind shifts. Technically there are many adjustments available on raceboards which allow you to also optimise settings on the fly to match conditions and sailing direction.

Indeed, if we would use only one word to describe the class, chances are that the word most would agree on is "tactical".

I still Don’t het why a that kind of boards are called “raceboards” because slalom boards are for sure alot faster??

Raceboards are intended for Course Racing and designed to offer a huge wind range from 5knots wind up. Course Racing involves upwind, downwind races. A retractable daggerboard is needed in order to reach high upwind angles. Low Wind performance requires a long and narrow board to be performant in desplacement mode, so that they cut the water. High Wind performance requires a flat bottom to plane like a Slalom board. Slalom boards are intended for planning from 12knots up and just reach angles (back and forth). Much more playful and fast than Raceboards. Ultimately Raceboards are versatile for sailors who want to navigate for hours no matter the wind conditions.
