the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ru-vid.comUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

It is truly amazing the tools you have stuffed into that two car garage and the machines you have created in that little back yard. It must make a lot of people question the excuses they’ve used for not doing things in their life. Me included. Thanks for the great build.

I think Matt has been looking for a larger more rural home / shop for a while. I really enjoyed watching April Wilkerson and Jay Bates making the move to bigger shops. I know there is a lot of good rural property available outside of the Twin Cities so I think it’s just a matter of time for Matt & family. Likewise, I think Jesse and Alyssa or Pure Living would be ahead of their home build if they first focused on a big shop build in order to clear out the basement and provide themselves a large covered area for their bigger equipment.

Hi Matt. Love the channel. 3/8 carbide mill. Crank the speed up to about 800 rpm. And you can easily take .05 to .1 easily. And on carbide you dont need coolant. But you do need to get the chips out of the way. Re cutting chips it what kills them. I just make a blower. I am a journeyman toolmaker with over 20 years. Have a great day

Add you a roller to the back of the trailer. It will allow the logs to roll on and not get caught on the back of the trailer. You can put the roller on the arch brackets. Simple to make out of 3" pipe

Chuck your endmill up in the collet a bit more to reduce chatter turn your speed up slightly and you can take a deeper cut but try to avoided climb cutting it can pull your table around with the conventional mill you can take more without the table being pulled around. Push the machine you will feel when it's to big of a cut.

I am a fabricator. I like your work. A local fabrication company has a heavy tube bending machine. While this is not an option for everyone building an arch, it is a time saver and a little expensive for a one piece arch. I am looking forward to seeing the trailer get zinc dipped. When I watch your videos, I see myself 30 years ago.

Matt, I built a trailer 22 years ago. I didn’t listen to anyone. I built it exactly as I needed it, a 18’ gooseneck to haul our speciality equipment to customer installs. Had I known then that it would become essentially my best friend, that it would never fail me, go across country many times maybe have 200,000 miles on it, and to this very day it is ready to call and haul...had I known all this 22 years ago I would have talked more lovingly to it as I built it. I am reminded of Scott Wadsworth’s “tool tank” on Essential Craftsmen. Another self-built old friend. Good for you!!

Love the trailer construction and the Mag drill. I have used them in the past for steel parts where burning a hole with a torch is not allowed due to structural integrity. It looks like you might want to get a DRO for the mill to make things easier. The new table saw I got has a DRO built into it for the blade bevel and I love it. I think it is not much more than one of those Wixey agle tools but it is much morer accurate than the old indicator and line of sight method. As always love your content and don't forget the trailer needs some MC logos to make it viable. Happy Metalworking!.

In my younger days, I raced dirt bikes and built my own trailer to haul five bikes, fuel, tools, etc. I wish I had owned good tools like you have, particularly the Milwaukee 4270 mag drill press and a MIG welder. I had a Miller AC buzz box that was OK, but MIG is sure sweet. I am envious of your design and fabricating skills. I had a corded 9" disk grinder that was a real challenge to do clean-up work on smaller metal pieces

If that is a cold rolled or mild steel, next time on the slot or pocket, pick up a regular HSS roughing end mill. Pre-drill one corner then hog out a .5" depth pass with a coolant mist sprayer, spraying on the back of the cutter, and a slow feed. If you have a lot of backlash in your slides, lock the axis you aren't using to keep cut square. You can clean up the edges with your current end mill. Roughing end mills can do a lot of work in a short amount of time compared to finishing or straight. Plus you can feel when you are pushing too hard against the cut and back off the feed.

I’ve really enjoyed the trailer series. Many people may not fully appreciate just how much work goes into a project like this by just seeing the weld-it-together parts. Everything is heavy, sharp and hot. You’re doing a great job. As for the welds, don’t sweat it. Check out Andrew Camarata’s channel where he lifts the front end of his dump truck on a bracket with an inch of weld on it.
