Hey, What's going on? Todd Shaw with another episode of The Saw Dust Dude. On this project, I'm staining a log home with PPG Prolux Stain.
I'll show you some tips and tricks I use the make this log home look fresh and alive again with the PPG Stain!

Great video. This dyi'er has a lot of work to do. Aquired my parents log home. I was the last person to stain it, about 8-10 years ago. Plan to log wash, fill checks with backerrod when needed with log builder caulk, then stain with PPG semi transparent stain. Dealing with bats and carpenter bees too. It never ends. Thanks for all the tips and info.

I do the same thing as this guy and what he's saying is 100% accurate. In addition to Proluxe, another great stain is Sashco Transformation Log and Timber.

Great video. I was so excited when my wife and I built our home home 12 yrs ago. The beautiful log siding, I couldn't wait to stain it. Then I read you need to let it weather for six weeks to help with mill glaze adhesion issues. Now 12 yrs later I still haven't stained it. Can't afford to replace it so gonna try to stain it.

On the Sikkens. That weathered side looks like my house. What is the black? I’ve been told it is not mold but a reaction of the stain? How are you removing it?

Perma Chink Log Wash and a Power Washer with a 40° tip, don't hold to close. The Log Wash will lift that black stuff off, may take two applications and some scrubbing too. Good luck on your project 🍀🍻. Thanks for watching and please Subscribe

Thanks for the Video! On that weathered side with all the flaking (which looks like one side of my house), did you do any more prep before applying the stain? did you need to sand the stain that didn't flake off?

Paul, the Log Wash gets most of it off. Yes to the prep work. Sometimes we have to lightly sand or do some scrapping too. On the raw wood Flake spots) you have to be creative, use a craft or small brush to apply a stain that blends with old stain (touch up). Then apply the new stain to entire wall. Have you had experience with outlast q8? We have some bad rot on a few logs that run anywhere from 8-25ft and I plan to reskin them. The rest of that side of the house is checked very bad etc since it gets the most direct sunlight. We have some Q8 and I’m wondering if that’s best for the job? We need something durable. We are okay with a dark stain and would actually prefer it since the cabin is in differnt shape everywhere. Thanks in advance

Hey do you shoot the sikkens through a airless sprayer? I saw that a lot of their products say to brush and roller and don’t mention spraying on the data sheet, do you spray sikken products? I was planing to spray n back brush like always

How often do you need to recoat the ProLuxe SRD?

3 to 7 years depending on the amount of sunlight. You can reapply a maintenance coat, it's a colorless stain that PPG offers. Thanks for watching and please Subscribe

We recently purchased a log home built in the late 70’s that has been maintained with CWF. Would we be able to replace that with a water based product from permachink? Thanks I’m advance
