Drove 15 years, learned how to drive a truck in Oregon hauling logs for the Blue and Gold.... Greatest Driving Job Ever!! 6 axle is the best ,5 five axles... no.

Looked like a driving job being nicely done, good and safe, no mishaps. I did have a truck driving experience when 19 years old, driving drill pipe from the Hillsboro, Oregon area to Chemult, Oregon supplying drilling pipe and supplies. Didn't know squat, only what I was told to do, no actual drivers training, other than directed to go out and drive the semi around until you feel pretty comfortable and we will load her up. That was the way they did things back in 1961. I was very lucky to have lived through 4 months making it up and down Willamette Pass. Would never do it again with a special permitted, 90,000 lb. IH V8 gas pot, twin screw, tractor and under braked trailer. Your trucking operation looks much better than mine, and much better equipment, let me assure you. Having a truck that was actually under control most of the time would have been pure luxury. Didn't know what air conditioning was. In thinking back, it was quite an adventure! That landing you were being loaded at looked very impressive with that yarder the center piece. Really enjoyed going along with you! Nick, North West Farmer

V8 gas that is sweet!!! I have always imagined how cool it would hace been to drive one! Definitely not as nice as we got it now but way cooler!!!

@@tttco The gas engine was a very large IH V8, have forgotten the cubes, , but it was big and talk about heat in the cab! I had no experience to make comparisons, just knew it was very slow on hills, both up and down. The brakes would not stop the weight if it got over 30mph or so, just too small. The answer to that was cooling the brakes with water. It made steam on all down hill long grades. If I had known what I know now, would never have taken that ride, no way! Funny how kids think, I wasn't worried, figured if I needed to I could just jump out. Not long after I went back to school, the guy that took the job lost that rig coming down Cornelius Pass Hwy from Hwy 30 hauling pipe from Longview. He jumped, only minor injuries, truck was junked. @@nicklambing9268 my old kenworth had water on the breaks... Funny thing is most people have no idea about water on the breaks or twin sticks.... I never thought about how they would steam until you said something!!! Too bad that truck got junked!! Thanks for sharing that memory! So cool!

It doesn’t look like a job for the faint of heart but on the plus side, on the logging road your not dealing with idiots on the highway.

Not the area where you would want to miss a gear, especially on the downward run.

any thoughts on the allison vs detroit severe duty?
@tttco
@tttco Год назад
I’ve used a Allison not a Detroit. I’m not a huge fan of the Allison. Personally i really like a manual transmission. I have used a Eaton 18 speed auto shift and it was ok…. Personally I thing a Allison is the way of the future…..
@johnvelas70
@johnvelas70 Год назад
@@tttco I got to drive a friends 13 speed (most here are 8ll) I'm just curious if you don't like the Allison because of flaws, or if you're like me & don't want a computer to do your driving for you. I know enough about programming (my dad is an engineer) to know the code was put together by someone who never sat in a truck not even as a passenger.
