Agents will eventually take the squeeze. I think RE commissions will shake out to 1.5- 2% per side.

You probably don't know about testing that's already been going on for at least two years where one listing agency offers no compensation to buyer's agencies.

Worst case is that 50% of 1st time buyers and all VA buyers will be screwed.

I heard from a listing agent that her brokerage (and most of them in her market) require their agents to offer the buyer's agent a 3.00% sales commission. Tell me that isn't price fixing. This racket was due for some adjustments.

Even if that was the case, it's still negotiable. Also The seller is not required to work with that agent or brokerage. There are plenty of different brokerages that will list at different rates

Once a few list without blanket offer of compensation, they will all follow. They may still offer an incentive, but it will not be earmarked for buyer agent commission like it currently is. Sure, some people will still be able to afford a buyer agent, but the vast majority won’t. Buyers are getting screwed.

A buyers agent is a construct created by listing agents in order to get other sales people (buyer agents) to help sell their house. Most countries still just use a listing agent....the US will likely go back to this model. Listing agents will have to start working again.

This won't change a thing, all they have to do is call or email the listing broker, are you working with cooperating brokers, if so what's split??? Done...you could also sign a commission agreement to seal it...listing your buyer's name and tying the buyer to the property for the next 12 months...well imagine for the residential world it would be more like 90 days...
