2001 525it with a full M5 drivetrain swap from a 2002 M5 donor - S62 engine, Getrag 420g manual 6-speed transmission, M5 driveshaft and differential, M5 brakes w/stainless steel brake lines and yellow painted calipers. The rear air suspension (SLS) is deleted and replaced Einhorn Industries adjustable spring perches with 10k Swift Springs. The exhaust is stock M5 exhaust on the driver's side, and the passenger side is muffler delete due to lack of space from the spare tire...listen with headphones if you can :)
M5 interior swap is partially complete, currently has M5 leather dash and door cards as well as front seats and center console, gauge cluster, steering wheel, nav screen, etc.
Wheels are genuine BMW style 37s from an e38, they were bored to fit the e39 hub and refinished. 18x8 fronts, 18x9.5 rears.
The wagon was originally Orient Blue and was repainted LeMans Blue, as far as I'm aware it's the only LMB e39 touring.
Left to do:
ECM and engine wiring is M5 and good to go, interior wiring should be redone/finished using a wagon wiring harness. The M5 wiring harness was swapped in the get the car driving, in the process the wagon wiring harness was cut. The plan was to source a 2001+ wagon BCM and body wiring harness (might be able to recode existing BCM, not sure) and install that. I think the dash would have to come out to do it right and fully swap in the wagon wiring.
Headliner. As part of the wiring, the headliner will have to come down and it should then be wrapped in alcantara to be correct like an M5.
Taillights and Trunk Wiring - not completed, would be done with body wiring.
Interior trim. Plastics that go on the hatch, etc. (included)
Fog lights - included
Door seals. I haven’t reinstalled the rubber pieces that go on the tops of the doors, they got lost in paint and I haven’t ordered new ones yet but they’re not hard to find. They don’t actually seal the door from what I can tell, that’s the larger squishy rubber piece that goes around the entire door. No water gets in when I wash it.
Rear seats. Car comes with M5 seats and wagon rear folding seat backs, to be done correctly the plan was to have the wagon rear seats wrapped with M5 leather.
Interior pillar covers/trim - all pillar covers are included, but wagons never came with alcantara and M5s C pillar is different being it’s a sedan, so the plan was to rewrap the C pillar cover with alcanata.
Exhaust. It has stock M5 exhaust to the resonators, from there the driver’s side continues as a full stock M5 setup through M5 muffler and tailpipe. The passenger side is cut after the resonator, the stock M5 mufflers won’t fit on the passenger side because of the spare tire area in the trunk - my plan was just to run a muffler delete since that’s the best exhaust on an e39 M5 :)
Exterior trim. I just sourced shadowline trim from a wagon and I quickly installed the thin window trim to get an idea of how it looks, I haven’t installed the exterior pillar covers/trim but they are included - they’re gloss black instead of the matte black like a normal e39 touring
