As a Texan, I am a big fan of Logan's Run. Nowadays, most movies filmed in America are just filmed in California. I have actually been to the Fort Worth Water Gardens multiple times before I had even heard of "Logan's Run."

I remember it so well, I was one of the extras in the movie. Michael York moved to Dallas this past year or so ago. I still have a few of the props like the glass Michael York was drinking from. I was an extra in some of Dallas series, in Corky, West World and a few others. I tried to get in on the Alamo movie and even had my own costume and an authentic Brown Bess 3rd Model, powder horn from Spanish Colonial era that had actually been used by a Mexican soldier at the real Alamo battle. I was turned down saying I wasn't dark skinned enough. go figure

That's neat! Was it really filmed at the local mall that the director liked the architectual style of? The movie was truly ahead of it's time (not just saying that because of the holgram, rim shot) and paved the way for Star Wars and the rest of the genre that still continues to this day. No Logan's Run, no Alien or any of the others.

I am from North Dallas, and was asked to be an extra as well, but, turned them down. I remember OZ, the nightclub, The Galleria, Valley View mall, Fort Worth Water Gardens, The Zales building, etc. It was amazing to see Dallas, in a futuristic movie like, Logans Run. Michael York, lived in North Dallas near my home, as did Don Henley.(Dirty Laundry). A Nieghbor, who was an extra in the movie, made friends with York and Henley after the movie Logans Run premiered. (We were rich kids, so we could do things like that!!!) Why do you think they picked Dallas as the location...🤔

I remember visiting the Water Gardens many times as a kid growing up in Ft. Worth. I remember even as a kid wondering how it was allowed, because that center was 6 or 7 feet deep with a small drain in the middle. When it was fixed (from what I understand), it was made 2-3 feet deep and the drain is much larger and screened so there's no strong central suction. Also, I went to a gala dinner just several years ago in the large vestibule at the Trade Center. It's still an odd looking place, with floors and the strange wall features like the movie.

There are two other famous Dallas locations from that film. I forget its name, but one is a futuristic shopping mall. There's also a nightclub, at the time called "Oz." I dated a girl who was an extra there and was also one of the nudes "Box" had frozen. She's the tall redhead you see behind him in a couple of shots.

One of the locations you mention may be a building my mom worked in for a couple of years in the late 70s until 81, I think. I also worked a temp job there for a couple of weeks over Christmas break in 1980 or 81. The building was on the east side of Interstate 35 and south of LBJ, but it was north of the World Trade Center. I believe Delta Airlines reservations services had offices in the building. It was built in the early 70s and looked very futuristic. It was white and looked kind of like a step pyramid on the outside. It had an open atrium that went up for several stories, and the first floor had a water feature running through it with landscaping and big carp in it. I've looked around online, and I can't find pictures of it. I don't know if it's even there still because I haven't been down that way for awhile. Anyway, I believe there are both exterior and interior shots of the building in the movie. I'll have to watch it again and see if I can spot them.

Small irregular shaped walkways with no handrails, fast running water going down steep sided walls with murky pools at the bottom. It's such a hazardous place to be, definitely like a water treatment plant. I'm glad they still let you enjoy it though as it was intended.

I visited the Fort Worth Water Gardens back in the mid-2000s and then Malibu Creek State Park.(CA, the location for most of the outside scenes) several years later. The waterfall in the film is the same one seen in Planet of the Apes (1968). There's a "Logan's Run bridge" in the park; no one could tell me what scene was filmed there, but I think it's where Logan and Jessica walk in water toward the Washington Monument, which was a matte painting. (What was once a lake in the park has now largely been replaced by marshes.) I could not find other specific outside locations like where Logan and Jessica slept, or where they walk on the path, although I could make some hunches. Fun fact: Between the waterfall and the bridge, which are maybe a bit over a mile apart, you pass by and through the former location of Ape City from the first two Apes films and the Apes TV show..

@cw9817
@cw9817 Год назад
@@puellamservumaddominum6180 , interesting. I can see a few, but not a lot; according to the shooting schedule that used to be online, they spent three or four days filming at what is now Malibu Creek State Park, and there aren't that many scenes outside. The nighttime scenes are the most likely ones shot in a studio, but there are only two of them in the finished film (plus a third one with Francis that was cut). Otherwise, they're pretty much all recognizably the state park. (I suspect the lake they were in was the lake that used to be present in the park; the Washington Monument they move toward was, of course, a matte painting.)

So, I didn't read every response, but i hope someone pointed out that a pretty good chunk of Logan's Run interior shots were filmed inside the yet completed Hulen mall in South Fort Worth. The mall was empty and void of retailers at the time and lent itself well for a futurstic backdrop and can still be visited to this day.

In the film, Carousel was a device that supposedly transferred your consciousness into a new body but in reality those who's time were simply disintegrated by it. Indeed The children who's body you were suppose to be put in were incubated not born naturally and Logan pondered why you never met someone you knew before that was renewed. The Sandmen were also the Police and Runners were felt to be denying someone renewal and their often public end wasn't shocking. The truth about Runners was that none made since they encountered a robot once assigned in freezing fish that stopped coming but switched to them instead. Once outside after Logan destroyed the manical robot they found the Lincoln Memorial and assumed it was what like to look old. The old man in Capitol had forgotten his last name but knew it was on a portrait somewhere and they convinced him to return so he'd know other people. Another Sandman was hunting who'd been his partner and was just as confused by what he had seen as well and was dying after a fight Logan. Seeing Logan's cystal clock on his palm had reset after leaving the city he believed that his partner and maybe he might of renewed as the Carousel promised. The computers that ran the city couldn't accept what Logan had found and as it called other Sandmen to deal with him breaks free destroying them and mainframe with one of their guns. With the city falling apart Logan and Jessica lead so in e survivors back the way they got in to find the old man played by Peter Ustinov delighted to see people again and they what growing past 30 would look like.

Hello. Ok, in the books, Carousel isnt a thing. They had 'deep sleep' shops, hence the 'Sandman' name and which at the age of 21, the flower (crystal) would turn black and red. The colours of the hand flowers were based on the colours of radiation sickness charts, from the past war, and stayed as a way to identify a person's age. There is only one domed city within the book, and is under sea, and is shown as Logan and Jessica leave the domed cities and glimpsed in the frozen world of 'Box', where food is collected from the sea. The cities within the book are vast, connected with maze cars which run through the earth's crust. Detroit, for instance generates power for all cities. Babies are born within automated factories from seed mothers, and not from all females due to radiation affects. The worlds is also feral outside the cities, with clans of raiders (Cubs in cathedral), attacking runners or fighting off sand men looking for those trying to escape the cities. The books are brilliant -but very 1960s

There was not a matte painting at all during the live filming. It was shot on location at the water gardens. The ocean background matte painting was done in post production some of it was done in the Los Colinas Studios and was a scene of Stewarts Beach in Galveston. For the scene of them diving in the pool they had turned off the original suction pump and set inside an artificial pump/air blower that makes large jacuzzi bubbles to create the effect of rotation because the suction pump is extremely powerful. Far too dangerous for anyone to get close to! Stupid visitors think it is an actual pool for the public and their kids drowned. They also brought in extra water trucks to add water to the falls just before certain shots. My best memories were all the ladies had nothing on underneath their costumes only the colored stockings. Some days were a lot of fun, others got on my nerves especially the reshoots. There was always something screwing up....back to mark start again, back to mark start again! The book is interesting; the age of death is 18 iirc or 21. It was raised in the movie because York couldn't pass for the younger age. The Carousel also was not in the book. The director and producters thought it would be interesting in the movie I suspect, but it's the one scene that I'm not fond of in the movie--you can see the wires if you look close enough, and it's that scene that looks dated to me. Minty on YT did an episode on the movie. Seems the actress who played Jessica was not very fond of her costume either; I honestly can't blame her! The movie was amazing for it's time, and w/o the creation of the special effects for the movie, those effects wouldn't have existed to use for Star Wars or other movies that came after. I admit after reading the other commenters that I'm confused on the shopping mall. Some said it's still up and others said it was torn down. I'll have to find out; I'm in Ohio and not FW but I have a few friends down that way. As for my being here at 12:49 am 11/16/2022? Well, YT decided to pop you in the recommended videos for me at the right side going down, and it was a good choice. Thank you YT. Good luck in your travels! Should you make it up here, there are a LOT of places to visit including the Troll Hole in Alliance Ohio!

Really interesting video, the buildings featured in Logan’s Run were incredible, although the modernisation of the second building has ruined the modernist aesthetic and made into just another glass fronted tower block. I liked how the buttresses lead the eye up the building and the simple utilitarian grid of the windows, the new coloured glass gives it a post modern aesthetic, not a style of architecture I like.

Just played back the movie - some mistakes - when they are walking from the sea to the waterfall you see no surrounding buildings - however later when they're close to the pool about to dive in you can see the buildings that are there today but with all the windows and markings hidden

8:49. . This building is Infomart. It is basically a multi-floor data center. The building was initially supposed to be twice as tall, but the crash of 2008 ended it's construction at about the halfway point. So a group of investors got together doubled the thickness of the concrete on the existing floors, gave it a roof, and turned it into a massive multi-tenant datacenter. Every carrier on the planet has connectivity in this building. Many colocation companies are also in this building.

The domrd city was Sanctuary, the refuge from the ecological and social collapse. The irony is Sanctuary became the hell they now fled. Sanctuary did exist, they were already in it, but the history was lost because there were no old people around to remember the history.

I grew up going to the Water Gardens when my parents would take us to FW to visit my grandparents. As far as wind being in a domed city. It is possible actually if the dome is big enough. Wind is generated by the heating and cooling of different parts of the ground.

Domed cities usually have some sort of artificial wind, and there's usually some sort of holographic cloud projector. At least, the ones I've been to are like that.

At FT Worth water gardens is near by the IMAX movie theater. Then near there is Love Field which is the birthplace of SOUTHWEST AIRLINES. At the end of the run way on the other side of the fence is where back in the day tons of people would go roller skating.

I loved that movie! I've watched it so many times. Thanks for showing me where it took place. It's so cool. Personal question...I have the same redness on my face do you have lupus? Mine changes in intensity depending on how I feel. They biopsied it in 1995 and it was positive for lupus.

I remember the day or actually the night when I was watching Logan‘s run for the first time in I guess over 30 years, and a lot of the stairwells and Corredor‘s at the end of the movie looked familiar, and then I realized that the creators of the game half life have definitely seen the movie Logan‘s run.

I’m really against remaking movies, but this one is deserving of a remake I think. Not that it was bad, just that the SFX was subpar for the material. If done well, I think it has good potential to be a solid movie.

I actually think having clouds, wind, day and night cycle would be highly believable considering it’s set like 250 years in the future. Personally I would expect that kind of artificial environment that far in the future

If you want some others to do you might try, Night Vision with Fred Williamson and the wonderful Cynthia Rothrock. This was filmed in the DFW area and shows the lighted tower that Dallas is famous for. Point Blank is a terrible but fun to watch movie with Micky Rourke. Made at the Town Center mall in 1998. The mall is now named LA Grande Plaza and last time I was in there some of the features in the film were still recognizable. I was a rookie officer at the time and I knew several of the police officers and dispatchers hired as extras. Then there is a series called "The Good Guys" which is a great quirky buddy cop comedy series filmed in the dfw area. Enjoy

9:46 Sadly if you watch Logan's Run via Amazon then you will not see the full version. Video stream sites now take artistic lic to cut out scenes to run in their own time line. Amazon also speeds up verbal communication and tries to make it imperceptible to the average listener but I hear it all. Amazon does this with tv shows.

Saludos.

You didn't find the main filming location because it used to be to the North of the World Trade Center. The majority of the movie was filmed in the Dallas Apperal Mart. It was torn down about 20 years ago. Me and my family worked there and bought clothing there for our lingerie and sexy clothing store called Massad's which was in Tulsa from 1950 until 2012. I myself went to the Apperal mart in the 1970s-1990s. The dinning area was the open space used as the Great Hall in front of Carousel. The different floors where the sandmen hunt the first guy they kill were floors open to the Great hall below. Beyond the Great Hall was actually the cafeteria and people sat in the Great Hall to eat their lunch. The shop where Farah Faucet worked was on the north side of the Apperal Mart on the 2nd or 3rd floor. It was a newer remodeled part of the building. I really miss that place. It was so amazing to go to and later work there as a sales rep in a showroom! Oh, so where the building used to be, it is now a parking lot. North of the World Trade Center and East of the cylindrical hotel right on the Stemon's Fwy.
