The garageband to logic lesson is huge!! Apple met both worlds in the middle: the intuitive and fun style of production with your hands on the screen that makes you spit out ideas in a flash. Combined with a high quality daw with awesome sounds and endless capabilities. Garageband users will crush beats with this and i said it first. Many great producers will be defendants of GarageBand
Patrick, I think we have 2 major categories of users these days: 1. Those that use Beats and Live Loops; 2. Those that record live instruments or virtual instruments. DAW of choice might well come down to which camp you’re in. 😉
Mate, thank you🙏 Looking forward to more upcoming guides/tips and tricks…content, you have been invaluable to me for just over a year now. Really appreciate your work!
Excellent video, Patrick. Thanks. Now downloading nearly 18 GB of sound packs onto my iPad Air 5 and, interestingly, onto my iPad Mini 6. I'm eager to try them both out. Should be very interesting.
Nice one Garry! I’ve been using it on my Mini 6 too and once you get used to the smaller scale, it’s surprisingly usable. Apple seem to have optimised Logic for iPad really well.
Brilliant Video! Every other video just dives right in and shows the interface but you took a step back and showed us how to setup before this with some GREAT advice! Ace video. Also.. I hear its a subscription... havent heard that befor...haha haha haha But ACE video Brother!
Pretty cool so far. Seems more streamlined. Lots of stuff to remember. But, it all feels familiar and I started using Logic on the Mac about 2 months ago. I've been using GarageBand for about 2 years. And I can record 20 tracks simultaneously into GarageBand on my 2018 iPad Pro using my Zoom LiveTrak L-20. This is going to be FUN from now on! Thanks Patrick, I'll be watching!
Been a Garageband user for years and was really looking forward to this..... So spent all night upgrading to 16.5... Only to find out it doesn't work in a 7th Gen IPad.... Then the euphoria of realising I'd escaped the subscription model. All's well that ends well 😂
Thx man. I think I will take it for a spin. I really like the option to route audio tracks to specific output channels. I have a model 12 Tascam digital mixer/interface and it’s nice to be able to route tracks back to the mixer and record individual tracks to the mixer’s SD card. The sends functionality is great too. Anyway to store sound library to external drive and still be able to access them in LP for iPad? Haven’t found the answer to this yet. Thx!
I kind of see what you’re saying, but it’s a completely separate program that probably took a lot of time to create. I don’t really see how anyone would expect to get that for free.
Playing with it right now and it looks great. One question that I think a few will have, I know the Apple Pencil is integrated a lot with Logic but does it have to be the Apple one, or will 3rd party ones work?
Question: Given that it's a subscription, there shouldn't be anything else to pay for, right? In other words, there are no IAPs, because you already have access to all the add-ons and updates, right? Should be. That's the way Adobe's Cloud apps work, i.e, you have access to everything.
This is a great tool, not just for sketching. But with all the time-consuming quircks... It's no fun deep-programming it on the road. Still the best option for ios imho
Just trying leaving my pc for abit with cubase and that been experimenting wiv it the last few days so it Inte Grate with my standalone world with mpc plus and mashine plus standalone world Just to give it more flava
Thanks for all the info! Having had a few hours to play with Logic Pro for iPad, I’m not sure about this app. Firstly, as a long-time Logic for Mac user, there’s quite a *lot* here that isn’t where you expect to find it - there’s definitely some learning to do! I’m not sure it has the correct title either - I think it’s more suited to be called ‘GarageBand Pro for iPad’. PS there’s also some iPads with qualifying processors and iOS version that *cannot* play the available demo track without choking and running out of power / memory.
….you gonna be digging in more into Logic, Patrick?! Your video has made me curious for the future but I’ve got a project to finish in GarageBand for this year but happy for you do some digging!
As a pro musician who’s been using Logic since it was called Creator on the Atari 1040st, and a current Mac user of Logic Pro X, I agree! The subscription model is no good. I no longer use ProTools or Waves plugins as well because of subscriptions models they added AFTER I already paid for the software.
Thanks for the video . I'm a GarageBand user on iMac osx. Find logic intimidating but will try this iPad version. I have iPad mini 6 no headphone socket !! 😾Is there a way to plug my bass guitar/ moog grandmother into iPad ? 😼
As a test, i saved the original logic 9 demo song, The Fear by Lily Allen, as a package to iCloud drive, after the logic update - it worked perfectly on my iPad mini! This was a surprise. The video clip was missing, and a single effect plugin was crossed out as not available - bass amp - but otherwise it worked pefectly.
I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo proud of you Apple free updates and plug-in support with 299 hell 499 price and you got it in the bag let’s goooooooooooooooooooooo
Thanks Patrick. Great intro. I have installed on my iPad and just starting with it. Logic Pro is my standard DAW on desktop and have looked forward to this day for a long time. As I don’t really use GarageBand, is there any point in keeping it? The reason I ask is that in the Apple website there is an asterisked comment that says ‘Needs GarageBand’ but I can’t find what it is linked to.
What I would love to know is how to enhance uploaded garageband tracks, I make EDM, atmospheric trance type stuff, would love to know how to tap into the tools to bring out the atmosphere, bass treble, effects to life, surround sound, I could go on, excited to see what I can do
It looks interesting, especially the new features, but I still feel like it's a garageband on steroids. Do you know if alchemy, which is my favorite synth, comes with all or most of the samples of the mac version?
@@TheGaragebandGuideit seems like i have to download all sound packs twice…..which is not possible with the amount of space i have…..is the a way to share the sound pack otherwise im going to have to pick one or the other. Any way to fix this….great vid mate
For a fiver a month, it's worth me selling my old iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen, and getting something compatible with this. For powering certain MIDI controllers, USB-C for iPads finally makes sense also.
I’m quite pedantic about files, so the initial response at my end is not happy - after downloading Logic Pro to my iPad Pro M1 12.9” ipad, when I now go to my folder for GarageBand files, their order has been largely but not entirely reversed. I number my songs that I create, mostly. I give them names later. The ones with names, are sort of where they were, but the ones I have numbered say 001 up to 100, instead of the most recent being at the top when I go into GarageBand, it starts with a few named files, and then lists every song that’s got a number for the title, beginning at the lowest ie 001 - plus I don’t understand why when I start up Logic, it seems to take my GarageBand songs as being Logic’s ‘recents’. Dunno, I wanted Logic Pro not to mess with my existing GarageBand system, and it has. Anyway, we carry on.
I couldn't find the oboes, clarinets and bassoons in the instrument list on Logic Pro for iPad. I'm not sure if that is me doing something incorrectly or whether it is a bug.
Thanks Patrick and 🎵Heeeeeeyyyyy Macaroni🎵 I've been wondering if they'd give early access out. Just updating then I'll give this a go myself. I'll definitely be picking and choosing packs as the hip hop/dance and packs like that are no use to me. I wish you could delete content from within the packs too as I don't want the loops, only the instruments. I don't think that's possible though.
And now I realise from comments below that I didn't need to update iOS. Damn. I knew it needed a specific version and thought it was 16.5 as it wasn't showing in the UK store. Double damn.
@@rezolvesound I’m a dumb dumb but I just cannot figure out how to do it. I have Control, but I’m stumped 😂 If you know of any tutorials please link me 🤜🏼🤛🏼
To be honest it makes me feel absolutely stupid! It’s nothing like what I’m used to - you can import from the files app? I understand what that means as in I know what the files app is but how do I actually do it when using Logic? It’s completely weird to me 😂 Let’s say I want to put my own sample in Sample Alchemy, how? I’m used to something saying “file open” or “record” within the program itself. I’m close to giving up to be honest
Auv3 you just scroll down when you want to add effects or instruments, then you'll see them. For your own samples, you'll need to use the files app and just drag them inside Logic like the way he's shown at 11:06
Yeah, i think ill stick to FLM. That beat breaker and AUv3 the only thing i want that FLM doesn’t have. FLM is way easier to program and edit midi. Some of the FX Visualizers, like with the EQ would be great; but not a necessity. Im not a Sample based producer. Don’t need the auto drummers, or live loop thing.
No, it should be out everywhere now. Try this link if you can’t find it in the App Store: Link to it on the App Store: apps.apple.com/gb/app/logic-pro-for-ipad/id1615087040
