I acquired a M570 trackball as part of an office clear-out in an old job a few years ago. Can't believe how long I set on the M570 using a traditional mouse. I feel like Neo waking up from the Matrix after using the M570
I must have won the MX Ergo lottery; have had stellar performance from day one in 2017 with no need to switch the ball out. I do clean it regularly because of ten-hour per day use and two cats. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. Now I probably jinxed it!
Great review! The MX Ergo was my way back into trackballs when covid started and I could use my own peripherals in the home office. I love the MX Ergo, apart from that soft touch surface which will surely wear off over time. My only other issues are that there's no MX Ergo with a bolt connection available and that the trackball can only switch between two computers, while semingly every MX keyboard or mouse supports 3 host connections. I also use a M575 (with bolt) when on the road, but I prefer the MX Ergo for its weight.
Coming from M570 this is a great trackball. Had no issues with gray ball and the default Omron switch lasted for 5 years. I have replaced it with KailhGM804 hopefully squeezing another few years of service from it.
Original trackball that comes with the mouse is fine. Very smooth. Just need to clean it every once in a while. Meaning, pop out and clean the dust out then pop it back. Easy peezy. Have used mine tilted with the base. Wrist never tired. Best mouse ever.
*The **_Logitech MX Ergo Plus_** model is exactly the same thing, but they add an extra rubber wedge to optionally tilt it even further..., and it's even the exact same price... I think it was a **_Best Buy_** exclusive deal..., but you can get em' online from other sources...*
Since the M570 gained Logi options, (so press down scroll wheel for resolution change), my Ergo is now unused. The M570 sits next to my MS Master 3 and I swap between as I see fit. The Ergo just isn't worth the extra money. I am looking at the M575 next :)
I just got two M570 free from the dump. I took them apart to solder in new switches, but discovered dust and finger gunk hampered movement of the switch pads. Once cleaned, the switches worked fine. There are five screws, including one under the battery label. It's worth a try before tossing.
Agreed! I actually soldered some Kailh GM 8.0s into one of mine and it made a huge difference. Not the worst thing to take apart, but I wish more companies would adopt the L-Trac style of simple disassembly.
For others reading along, the switch worked out to be bad after all. I soldered in a good-used switch from an IBM mouse. It was a brand other than Omron, but fit just fine and works well. I couldn't decipher the logo -- looked maybe like a little world..
I have had 6 of these in the past ten years and every one has failed within a year or two. It usually starts with buttons no responding and highlighting text fails amongst many other niggles. Logitech have been very good and have replaced a few of them. I asked their service people and they say it's caused by a failing capacitor. If that's the case, why do they not fix it. You might ask why I stick with this mouse but it's the only one I can use as I suffer from MS. I have just ordered the new M575 which hopefully will be better.
Ive owned half a dozen m570, two ergo and currently use two newer model m575. Aside from purely just logitech I have owned various trackballs of different sizes and makes from kensington, perixx, elecom and none of them were good enough to stick with longer than a week, put up against my logitechs. That being said, I am torture on these devices, they are dropped from desk height constantly, my hands and sweat are corrosive and I mash the crap out of the back and forward buttons. My opinion is the MX ergo, the bearings and trackball enclosure are so much nicer, the weight feels better but it is not a good enough upgrade over the m575 to justify the price, especially when neither of my ergo mice lasted very long without MAJOR failure, even worse the rubberized shell on the ergo held up so poorly it made more sense to rip it off with a knife than try and clean it.
Mine became unusable after 3 years of intense use. My sweat burned the upper cover badly but the main problem was the false double clicks. Single clicks becoming double clicks is so annoying I had to retire it.
I've had my M570 for 12 years and done nothing to it except clean out the ball socket and took it apart a couple years ago to blow out the interior. Just pulled my wife's apart and lubed the micor switches, and cleaned the hand lotion off her wheel.
my MX ergo has issues with the left click, where it sometimes clicks twice or it's impossible to drag and drop. Are those the issues you are talking about?
Yep! The inability to drag and drop is usually what happens to mine (too many MMORPGs 😉). If it's within warranty, Logitech will usually replace it for you. Even if it's not, I usually end up replacing it on my own because I haven't found anything that fits quite as well. You could look at soldering in some Kailh switches if you feel up to it. I've had great experience with those after replacing the switches on my other Logitech mouse.
how is the inertia scrolling on this one compared to the Magic Mouse today? this is the main reason i could get into the MX Logitech mice...their implementation of the inertia scrolling "stutters" which is very jarring to me...if this addressed that I would probably give it a shot.
