Complete hack job that somehow fixed these speakers for me :)
My problem was my speakers just didn't power on one day. The control box just flashed 3 lights on the inputs. I looked it up and saw some people recommend replacing the resistors. I wasn't able to find many videos on how to do it so I decided last minute to make my own...sorry for the complete lack of quality and how choppy it was...I didn't have much confidence that it would work.
In the end the speakers worked! I hope this video can help somebody else or inspire somebody to make a better one :)
To find the parts I used do a search for 5.6 ohm (5R6) 3W Flame Proof Power Resistors
These were recommended on a forum I searched on and worked for me.
**Links Died :( **
Here are the replacement parts that I used:

I didn't order these specifically but they appear to be the same thing if you prefer Amazon

I can't pin replies to the top but credit to @revolu100 for finding the factory resistors. I put in 2w ones due to a bad recommendation (and they've lasted so far) but you should probably use these. "In the factory values the R79 and R80 resistors are 5.6ohm but 3W instead of 2W. Better be sure and buy resistors with that power or higher."

The 2 resistors (R79 and R80) of 5.6 ohms / 2 watts are exchanged for 4 resistors of 10 ohms / 2 watts in parallel to take out two resistors of 5 ohms / 4 watts Two 120-millimeter fans are installed on the side of the box (one inserting from the bottom and the other removing from the top) to force poor cooling. The fans are powered by a 220 vac module at 12 vdc / 2 amps A power supply type switch plug connector is installed to turn everything off without unplugging from the wall

Hi, I had the same problem and the solution for me was the following: I changed R79 and R80, 5.6 Ohm / 3w, I rebuilt the burning circuit between them and I changed LM1117s which was defective. Optionally I chose to replace the electrolytic capacitors C38, C39 and C40 47micro / 16V, C23 47 micro / 100v, C33 220micro / 25v and C66 470 micro / 16V. I chose to change these electrolytic capacitors as they sometimes cause defects. My system has over 8 years of daily use and I thought it was good to change these capacitors. The system now works perfectly.

I've replaced R79 and R80, and then R5 because that one was just broken loose of the board. But still having the issue of both input lights being light up. Having it in that state for a while, then pressing the power button shuts it off with a noticeable "bang", and then I can turn it back on and it'll work like it should (most of the time). After it being in stand-by mode for a couple of hours, the same thing happens again. Any ideas what else I could try? Maybe change some more near R5?

@techfireside
@techfireside 4 года назад
Mine (even though it's working) heats up quite a bit while being used so I'm not sure that heat is the issue. I think it's possible you have a component failing on one of the boards but I'm not sure which one. To hopefully get some better help with the comments what audio input are you using? Digital or analog? And have you tried another sound source? (like if you usually have this happen while using a computer try plugging your phone or tablet into it and see if the sound problem keeps happening) This should hopefully give some better information to troubleshoot the problem.

Hello, thanks for sharing this video. Two questions : how to remove the pink and black glue ? How to disconnect the cables : the plugs are really hard ?
@techfireside
@techfireside 3 года назад
I used a hair dryer at one point to loosen the glue up...it was still difficult but it helped. For the plugs I used a plastic spudger from my ifixit repair kit. If you don't have that you could probably use a plastic spoon or something like that. You want to try to avoid using metal tools on plastic because the plastic has a high chance of getting damaged.

Hello. Thank you for your fast answer. Just to give my feedback to people who try to repair Z906. My issue (no sound (just some clicks at the start) and control/lights frozen) was due to the two capacitors of 47uf 16V next to resistors replaced in this video. I followed an another tutorial because my resistors were not burned but it's clearly linked. Personly, I cut the glue with a cutter and scratch with a precision screwdriver but it requests precision and patience to avoid to damage the card. I also used carefully the precision screwdriver to make lever on plug. I had very big difficulties to remove the capacitors : impossible to melt the weld with a soldering station at 450°C (It was my first experience). So the last way I found was to cut the maximum of tin with a cutter and to drill around the pins with a needle. Before to do that, I tried to push on the pins with the soldering iron : it worked on the first capacitors, but I bend the pins of the second capacitors. I hope it will be useful and thanks for your help. It's just awesome and a great pleasure to hear again the sound of my speakers after this.

@@techfireside The problem in the forums is that people share poor quality photos of the resistors and you cannot see the colors. The colors can serve as a guide to know what resistance you have in front of you. A misinterpretation of the color can result in an incorrect OHM value. Yeah, that sounds like a very different problem than mine. My speakers were flat out dead until I replaced these parts so I think yours might have some sort of different issue (just with a similar error light pattern). I hope you can find a solution to your issue...it's disappointing that these are starting to have issues as they age. I don't expect them to last forever but I've got other electronics just as old that are still working great so considering how expensive these are I would have expected them to last longer. I don't know how many of these units were sold but the views on this video seem to be climbing more and more every year so it's not exactly an uncommon thing for these to fail it seems.

Hello, thank you for the video, it is really super helpful and i learned that my resistors were also blown, same as the transisotr right behind them it seemed. Findink them was quite easy because all the neccesary info is written onto them. But with the resistors it is not so easy. Since there seems to be some confusion in the comments let me add some more :D Sorry for that. So i did a colour check of the resistors and found out it is a 5.8 ohm 3W 5% resistor. Can that be? Or would it be fine to get these? Does it make a difference? I am no eletrician. Thank you and thanks for the effort you put in.
@Thetoboss
@Thetoboss 3 года назад
The colour coding is Green - Grey - Gold - Gold and if i put that into a colour calculator for resistors 5.8 ohms and 3W with 5% tolerance comes out.
@techfireside
@techfireside 3 года назад
Thank you for very much for the kind words. I'm not and electrician or electrical engineer either so you are in good company with the hobbyists here that just don't want to add to the landfill unnecessarily :) So, I can only comment on the ones I replaced but they were 5.6ohm 3W (initially I thought they were 2w from a bad recommendation on a forum). I had people on here try to claim they are 560ohm and all sorts of other things but from my own experience and going through this mountain of comments from people that know much more than me I can confidently say you should use 5.6ohm 3w. Again this is just if you are replacing the ones I did. Now my 2w ones haven't exploded or anything yet and it's been about 2 years now (no issues) but I would go with the advice I've been seeing of going with the original 3w ones. Again thank you for the comments and I've been really happy to see that it's helped some people out there.

@@techfireside UPDATE: took the board to an "experience technical guy" he change both resistors, R79 & R80 also change the Varistor and the 2 fuses, the guy says all that happens due to a high fuse amperage, he said that when the circuit occurs, the fuse wont blow and it goes to the Varistor which burns the resistors, I dont know much about all that, he said he replaced the 2 fuses for the right amperage needed and it cost me only $30 since i took just the small board, speakers works like new now 👍 thank you for the video
