Have you ever found yourself staring at a blank artboard in Adobe Illustrator hoping that a logo design idea would magically appear. This is the part of logo design that SUCKS! Well in this video, I show you exactly how I get over that dreaded creative block and generate a logo idea for one of my clients. I set myself a challenge to come up with a logo idea that I HAVE to present to my client in 7 hours...does it go to plan? Absolutely not.

what sucks even more is when you have something rock solid and spent all this time on it annnnnnnnd the client hates it and you have to go back to the start. Even worse is they have a really terrible idea that's going to look awful but thats how they want it so you have to do it. Such is life as a designer. Great video btw

Oh yes... been there, done that. The logo is ... ok now... But i still have my idea on my drive, and I still like the design so much better and can see that it would have been OUTSTANDING. Now the logo is ... like all the other logos in that area. But oh well, the client is happy now.

As a website designer I can feel that creativity block a lot! Glad I'm not alone. So many people online present it as the easiest thing in the world to be creative. The work may be easy physically but it's a mental challenge for sure. Thanks for sharing your struggles CJ.

I couldn’t agree more. Whenever I’m stuck, I usually just go back to the brief & interestingly enough end up finding something that puts me back in my groove. Other times I go back to my initial sketches and there’s usually one potential idea that I explore and wound up with a masterpieces 😊

I'm glad you changed that original F; it looked like an uppercase L. The second variation was much closer to a cursive F! Love seeing this process. This happens to me on every project. I'm so glad to know it's not just me!!

Thank you so much for sharing this! I've always been interested in how others ideate in the process of designing a logo. As designers we need to propose the best solutions to our clients, even when they don't know they needed it, that's why we need to note down all the details on the brief and keep reviewing, in case there are things that we missed. Looking at other logo designs on Pinterest while designing one is kind of challenging, because I feel like imitating the design I'm looking at rather than based on the brief. Been following your shorter content on other socials for a while now and it's really nice to you break down all the details in a longer form of content. Can't wait for more! 😄

I would suggest to minimize the length of the vertical stems of the H to make em looks kinda like serifs that would get you the F and the H

And then the client says can we see a few more options? :D I assume there's a setting of expectations beforehand of what your brief and process is to the client, how they go over mood boards etc to predefine a direction, and what they will be ultimately presented with... how often do you get asked for multiple options versus iterations on one direction? Personally, I don't like to provide multiple choice, as it leads to Franken-logos.
