Dark mode is a huge plus. I'm really excited for some of the new Greek resources: the Faithlife Greek Grammar Ontology and the Lexham Research Lexicons of the LXX and Greek NT all of which interface in the new Factbook. Also, I haven't explored it much yet, but the 'Greek Prepositions in the New Testament ' looks really helpful.

Thanks Kevin! I need to look into some of those too!

The folder feature is now on my list to set up tomorrow. I had no idea it existed in 9. Thanks!

Thanks for a video outlining many of the language enhancements - The ability to have multiple bookmarks in folders is very useful.

I love Logos and this new version is as better yet. The sermon builder and management tool are worth the price of admission whether you use it for sermons, lessons, or just extended not taking. The Factbook is a wonderful starting point but for me as a long time user, I feell like the ability to create folders and group your library as you desire on the quick start bar is the best feature. The rest is just icing on the cake.

Yes, the sermon tool is great even for just creating Bible studies with handouts!

Thank you! I am especially excited about the Charts feature. I’ve played around with it and it is very cool.

Thanks for the excellent video, Darryl - I watched Faithlife's "What's New" video on Logos 9 (then bought it), but you have gone into much more detail. The folders for shortcuts is particularly useful, and not something I saw in the video from Faithlife.

As always you did a great job. Two questions/comments: 1) As I am sure you are aware there are two approaches taken by authors of biblical counseling books. The first is a very conservative approach which primarily gives a topical arrangement of related verses and not much in “how to address” area. The second addresses “how to address” but is founded in one or more of the currently in Vogue schools of psychology ( ie Rogers, Skinner, etc). How does Logos deal with this? 2) While preaching and teaching are two different things there has been much discussion over the years as to the overlap. As a person who does both with zeal, what is your opinion of the Sermon creator as a prep and presentation tool for teaching? Again thanks for all you do. Keep up the good fight! BobD

I don't think the counseling guide shows any evidence of schools of counseling yet. It still needs work. I love the sermon presentation mode - it rocks. Unfortunately the editing tool is only available on the full desktop version, but is also useful for creating bible study handouts.

Had WORDsearch now got Logos. I'm just a layman and i'm buried in resources. Oh by the way Faithlife acquired WS. Great stuff but a bit over taken by it.

Hello, thank you for a great video. However, I cannot seem to find how to slow the scrolling. When I scroll a page of text it jumps too far ahead. How do I slow it down to scroll small portions? Thank so much
@bma
@bma 2 года назад
Sounds like you're using the page view - which will scroll a page at a time. Turn that off and you'll scroll line by line. On a Mac the keyboard command is Cmd + Shift + P, but you can also find it from the display menu for the book (the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the window.

Well, I am brand new to Logos software I just bought it, before this I was using biblegateway, so my mind is blown, going from a handful of books in my room, to 700+ books in a day. I love all the questions it answers, the theology, and interpretation ability, to have 4 bibles open at once, and get four different angles of interpretation and then open an entire book of commentary, my study bible looks weak compared to everything this does. Like my Dodge compared to a Lexus.

What are the other icons next to you resources, in the top bar? Plus, minus, arrow etc?

I've customized my bar with books shortcuts and other things that speed up my work. You can set these to whatever you like.

Okay, now for the elephant in the room. Is it still hideously slow on the Mac?
@bma

It is just as slow on the Mac as I remember it being on a PC... but it has been a few years so it might have changed now. 😉

Are all these features available in Fundamemtals? It might be useful at some point to do a video on what’s in there and how to go about building up the most useful logos collection for your personal or professional needs and level of expertise. Poking around the various packages it seems you have to spend quite a lot of money to get a decent collection of up to date Greek language tools and commentaries even for a serious beginner - most of the basic packages being padded out with a lot of old common domain material and outdated books which you’ll mostly never use and not giving you much more than free resources like Biblehub. Academic Standard looks like a minimum starting point for proper study in the languages but going up to Professional which is the only level to include BDAG for instance is quite costly (over a $1000) if you haven’t got a college grant or a Church or academic account that goes with your job, though it’s better value than buying the key resources separately on Logos. I can see the fun to be had with this but as a retiree studying on my own time, my own dollar and largely for my personal interest I’m not certain I would get enough use out of it to justify the cost of duplicating my select library in hard copy and on Kindle and Scribd.

Judith, you touched on a concern of mine. I'm retired and I have heard of Logos but never used it. Based upon the high cost, it seems to be for professionals where their church or seminary pays for it. I'm interested in learning Greek and I bought BBG from Mounce, and the workbook. I think I'll stick with that. The pricetag of Logos Greek tools seems prohibitive for 'the regular guy/gal'.

Are these features alone worth the upgrade?

For me the Dark Mode alone saves me headaches... literally. If I stare at a stark white screen for hours a day, for a week at a time, sometimes it starts to get to me.

The folder function is great. But, honestly my seminary updated me for free. So i guess im a little bias. Btw, love you Channel!
@bma
@bma 3 года назад
That is up to you. I wouldn't want the responsibility of telling you if you should spend the money or not, but FWIW, upgrade time is a great time to look at upgrading your library a little as well as get the new tools. But your mileage may vary.
