I have an addiction to looking at guitars online. Because of that, I can tell if a guitar will actual sell or not. In this video I take a look at a number of guitars that I can guarantee will not sell. It doesn't matter if its a great Gibson, or Fender, or any other guitar... if it is not priced right with good pics, it will not sell.

Great information. I enjoy modding my guitars, which makes them play/sound better to me. Unfortunately no buyer cares about what I like--go figure. In fact sometimes the mod decreases the worth of a guitar.
@lueysixty-six7300
@lueysixty-six7300 4 года назад
Yeah man that's it. That's exactly why it doesn't increase the value : because modding is so personal, you are sculpting a stock guitar into your personal dream machine! For some that might be surf green with a hot pink pickguard, another might be a Floyd rose and animal print paint job (leopard spot, zebra stripe or something), and another might be all about putting minihumbuckers where they don't belong, say...3 on a Strat instead of the single coils... The list goes on. Those are extreme examples. Often it will really be thing like I want my Strat hardtailed, you want a state of the art term system installed. I wouldn't value yours, even if it cost $600 and 14 hours of messing around to get it set up... because I don't want a trem, I want a hardtail. And vice versa, you wouldn't value whatever I did to hardtail it.

Ad seen in Offer Up in Philadelphia area: “Gitar for sale - like new - missing two strings and plugs - I think the strings are like metal - crack on side gives it character - I tried to remove bumper stickers with WD-40, but it started to remove shellac. Pulled out of a basement flood with minimal water stains. No problem though. Price is somewhat negotiable at $1000”

It almost seems normal for people to ask new + price for used guitars, specially squiers and epiphones. I’m sure it keeps retailers happy cause people will just go and buy a new one instead. Guitars ( or anything) are only worth in $$ what someone will pay.
@popsfereal

I buy super cheap guitars, set them up right, then sell them for a small profit. I do it for a hobby. I put decent guitars in the hands of people who can't afford "real guitars". Everybody is happy. Having said that, I will say I have seen a lot of sketchy deals and sellers. I paid under 100 bucks for a Fernandes Tele. I knew the guy was being sketchy....I got it home and the insides looked like spaghetti...and it didn't work. He swore it was in "great playing condition". Yes, if you don't plug it in. I'll still make money on it, since I got it so cheap. He wanted $225!!!!!!

I thought just the British market was like that. I found a squier bullet strat for £100 + shipping. They cost £109 new delivered to my door. Things that annoy me in adds are when people add "not this brand, this brand, this brand, ..." The other one is the use of 'rare'. Is it rare? Are the other 20 I found for sale also rare? But the crown goes to the ones that have: Title: Guitar Description: used guitar Picture: blured guitar body, no headstock.

Folks try to get brand new prices for used gear, especially now on reverb. I don't care if it's only been played once it's still USED! Had a guy on reverb selling a mogami platinum cable for the same price as new and he says in the listing that he only used it once in a session. IT'S STILL USED!

@@popsfereal Reverb used to be a great community for buying and selling gear but as more and more people found out about it it's gotten pretty bad IMO not to mention that since ETSY bought it their customer service has went to hell also. When it was just seasoned buyers and sellers who knew what they were doing or knew how negotiating works I didn't worry about buying anything on reverb but now that 13yr old joey thinks his beat up tube screamer is mint condition that will bring full price is selling on reverb it's a crapshoot. Plus nobody negotiates anymore which to me is the best way to sell, if the offer option is on then to me that means make an offer but sometimes sellers won't turn it off then get upset when an offer is made. I was intrested in a guitar and in the listing photos the strings were off the guitar so I asked about the strings being off and if there was any issues with the guitar and the kid responded with the answers and his last sentence was "now that I've answered your questions are you going to buy the guitar or not"? I replied with "not now", anyway gotta be careful on reverb now cause "mint" also stands for "some assembly required ".

I saw a guy in reverb selling a used celestion creamback m65 for 300 dollars which is more than they are worth brand new he tried to justify the price by saying it was a rare made in England creamback before production of the creamback moved to China even though production of the creamback never moved to china and are still made in the u.k to this day I don't know if he was trying to pull a scam or really thought he had a rare speaker becuase he did not know better perhaps he assumed beciase some celesrion models moved to China for production they all did the sad part is someone actually bought the speaker and paid 300 plus shipping thinking they got some rare spaekers. Even if creamback production had moved to china a used made in England creamback would not be worth 300 dollars nor would it be rare . Made in england vibrate 30 or made in England g12h30 anni are not worth 300 a piece so why would a creamback be I hate seeing people get screwed over like this I see people asking 6000 and 7000 dollars for 70s les paul standards and modified les paul deluxes that are only worth 3000 dollars and many do nor have stock electronics. People Allso believe selling guitars with upgraded pickups electronics and hardware add value to their guitars when in fact it makes them worth less .. the think of they put 1500 dollar worth of upgrades to a guitar that it adds 1500 dollars to the value of the guitar I seem a guy asking 6000 dollars for a 1976 les paul custom that did not even have the original pickups or tuners to say nothing of the fact that post 1975 70s les pauls are the least desirable era of the les paul due to maple necks and pancake bodies 3 piece tops 3 piece necks and 3 piece backs . I would pay 6000 for a 68 or 69 custom but not a 76. A 76 custom is worth 3 grand and not a penny more.

I have sold a lot of guitars on eBay and a dozen photos is necessary if you want to sell it. Especially if it's a nice one. There are a lot of scammers and idiots out there. The third one you show is the right way, the epiphone too though it's overpriced. The upgrades people do just lower the price usually in my experience. If I am going to mod a guitar, I always do it myself.

Hey Kennis, I have been shopping for Rickenbackers for a buddy of mine who is retiring soon. Because of their limited production the $1600 guitar you get today is sold for $1800 to 2000 the next day. Also funny how Rickenbacker doesn’t publish the prices for their guitars. If you ever see them in a catalog or in an ad, they will always say “call for price”. It’s not a one time thing, and it’s actually on purpose. Why? Because Rickenbacker literally changes the price on a daily basis, or just when ever they feel like it. So yes, you could call one day, say you’d like to order one and get quoted $1600. A day or week, or month later, if and when the guitar is actually available to buy, you suddenly find out it’s now $1850, or whatever they decide it will be, based on their sales and very limited production. I think they look at it as one of those “if you have to ask the price, you can’t afford it” kinds of deals. Best to try to find one used. They rare, but they do come up on used market from time to time. You have to be patient and monitor all the used sites, also helps to know someone in sales somewhere or someone who deals with rare used guitars. Hopefully whoever is selling it used will actually set a price, not decide what they going to charge you based on how they feel on any given day.

Everyone an there sister an brother is buying up the stuff because a few people making good money on it . Before this happened I was getting killer deals on used gear which I was using to build a home studio. An now instead of buying used an doing some repairs. Its getting to the point where new just makes more sense. It sucks too because I saved thousands doing it sure it older an some things are dated but they do the job. An in most cases it was simple repairs like caps or cleaning of contacts lil things that most people didn't want to mess with. just plain sad because I am not going to get rich doing more with less but was having fun doing it

Buying a guitar online is a big risk, you are relying on the seller giving an accurate description, listing any marks or damage, and providing good clear photo's of the entire guitar not just the front, and packing the guitar to ensure it arrives in the condition it was sent in. I find very few guitars listed to this standard that i would feel confident enough to risk buying it.

These words in a listing are a kiss of death: "Plays like buttah." "Mint condition. Never even strummed." "Honest wear." As opposed to dishonest wear, or an owner who never cleans or maintains his instrument. Either way, stay away. "100% original, with changed parts." Either it is or it isn't. "Genuine PAFs." A story I've heard a 1000 times. Worst offenders are sellers in Japan with dubious credentials. Even if you provide evidence of their offering being a fake, they continue to list their guitar with the false claim.

Same thing goes for cars. Just because you put $3k in repair parts into your car doesn't mean it's now worth $3k more. Or even $3k worth of mods. A good rule of thumb is they sell for 50 cents on the dollar at best and pennies on the dollar at worst. You might put a $10k engine in the car but you can't jack the price up $10k because of it. You might get $4k back out of that engine when you sell it. A $16k car might now sell for $20k, not $26k, with a new $10k engine. Fender Play isn't bad. I've been using it. I learned to play most of the riffs and licks I know from Fender Play. It would work much better with an actual instructor to go through it with you but for what it is, it's not bad, imo.

Still not going to be paying $500, or even $450 for a used neck, with screw holes I may have to fill and redrill, and for a non Fender branded neck (yes aware it’s licensed, but not same as a Fender branded neck). Flame or no flame. The tuners are also used, are only about $50 brand new, so a reasonable used price would be closer to $325-$375 IMO. I wouldn’t even consider $400, unless I really wanted it bad. Otherwise, would rather buy a brand new MIA Fender branded American Pro neck, without the flame for $530. Or buy a MIM Fender neck for half that, $250-300. Flame is pretty, but it doesn’t do anything to how it feels or plays. Think you can get roasted for around same price ranges.
