The first words on the screen---"Cry if you can, laugh if you want." , an old Chinese proverb. Thus begins one of my 10 all time favorite films, Jacques Demy's debut, Lola (1961) A Classic French new wave movie. The use of the second movement from Beethoven's 7th symphony to start and end the film is a wonderful touch. The whole film is not permitted to be shown on youtube, but I thought I'd show you the opening scene of the film, shot in black and white CinemaScope.
Beautiful words.. After a long Search I found full film n watched it yesterday, indeed it's a masterfully made a beautiful classic cinema of new wave French Cinema, a sophisticated film!
