They have similarly light/sweet voices (and a lot of talent) but use them very differently. Tone-wise and range-wise, Zara goes for this huge belting thing which IMO is trying to make a trumpet out of a flute. I'm sure Lolo's got range, more range than she necessarily shows, but I like how she focuses on emphasizing her natural vocal tone and sweet spots, and the beautiful agility it gives her to not be forcing it too much. She's not going to wear her voice out by 40 like many pop singers because she's letting the mic do the right amount of work live... just giving you tasty consistent tone, melodies and licks instead of her vocal folds beating each other up for your pleasure. Zara is a very capable singer but it's still a thrashing to sing those types of songs night after night, especially if you get sick. In my work I help people rehabilitate their voices and voice strain/injury is real. Longevity is an important factor for a touring vocalist beginning in the songwriting process as much as in technique, and that is a clear difference between the two ladies' repertoire. Side-note: I'm a bit obsessive about hearing pitch correction, and nowadays literally everyone uses it somewhere somehow, including Lo and your faves, and it's not a big deal. But that said, I specifically try to find unedited live (actually live) videos like this because I'm curious who's really putting in the work, and damn, she can definitely sing live and without "cheating" in any way. Go Lolo!
