Yeah it's definitely more of a mental thing than a physical reason for them quitting. They just realize they're outclassed. I would still rather see them get KOed or TKOed before quitting.
Part of the problem though isn't just Loma's skill, but his speed and agility that allows him do these things. You ever notice how Loma gets faster and FASTER after ever round? I think it's part of him and his dad's game plan for every fight - to not ever give the opponent any time to breath. Most boxers do not have the stamina to do this.

Actually if you watch the fight again you can see exactly where rigo hurt his hand. When he did a wide left, Loma moved out of the way so fast that there was 2 of them. No rigo didn't hit the real Loma but the ora of Loma, which looks like air.
Brendan you might want to watch the video on Tyson thats on this very channel that shows how good and how crucial to his success footwork was. Power was only a small part of what made Tyson a great heavyweight.

Every one's talking about Loma's offense but it wasn't his offense that made rigo quit. It was his defense. Loma didn't really hurt rigo. It was the fact that rigo couldn't touch lomachenko that made him quit. Loma didn't really hurt rigo but he was getting some touches but rigo couldn't touch loma at all and that's what frustrated him and made him quit. Lomencheko doesn’t just flight he enters a chess match and makes the opponent do what he wants them to do, there is no adjustments to me be made, there is nothing the corner can say. If the opponent doesn’t come into the fight ready to play chess and out smarts lomencheko (which I can’t name a fighter who could) then it’s over. He will pick them apart and make them do what he wants them to do. There’s not another boxer today like him. He is changing boxing and how to win fights, unless someone can get extremely lucky off a unorthodox swing (and he can take a punch) I don’t see anyone beating him. The only chance of losing he has is himself, if he pulls a Tyson and becomes too confident in himself and loses his drive to train then that’s the only way I see him losing ever, which doesn’t seem his character. Right now I would bet he could take anyone in the 135 range and dare I say 140 because he’s that good. Even though he made this fight look as easy as he did, the fight was not promoted the way it should have been. This should has been his hardest test when he made it look easy once again. I think he quit because he knew what was gonna happen,until the 8-9 th round from what i saw from previous Loma fights,he does damage to the body,after the 9th he goes in for the KO's.

Loma's combination of angle mastery, distance control, flawless footwork, and incredible fight IQ are truly unique. I know that in my lifetime I have not seen a fighter like him.

Lomachenko and Rigo are both top level chessmasters of boxing. Both men realized that one was consistently 2-3 moves ahead. Both men realized that the conclusion was inevitable. Loma is a more active fighter who can both score points and put serious pressure on his opponent. His footwork is better, his speed is equivalent, and his handspeed is better. Even if Rigo was just as young and naturally large as Loma, he still most likely loses. Rigo's style is not designed to counter high volume, high talent fighters. It wouldn't ever work against Loma. The only hope Rigo has was a random left hand, something he knew was never going to happen. NO MAS Mikey Garcia is the next one on my list for Loma.

Salido was way more than 7lbs heavier than lomachenko on fight day, and despite fighting dirty and being allowed to by the ref with no points deducted, just barely won a split decision against loma, and loma finished the fight with no problem. Going forward Loma is probably going to have to move up in weight to fight bigger guys if he wants to challenge anybody worth talking about. I hate boxing for being boring to me, but Loma is just that 1 boxer who makes you go into the screen to not miss any second of his movement. Everyone is angry on Rigo, but give him a break guys...he couldn't fight, he did a tactical withdraw. Rigo could've lasted till the end... As lopsided as people thought this fight was they also tend to overlook that Rigo still managed to limit Loma to just 55 connected shots through 6 rounds. A very good win for sure. But a truly terrible connect rate by Loma's standards.

Rigo never flinched or winced when his corner was jerking his left glove off or grabbing the "injured" hand. If his hand was really so injured that he couldn't continue fighting, he would have at least winced when they jerked it around or tried to protect it in some way.

At the 1:38 min. mark Modern Martial Artist said Loma feinted high and low and took away his lead hand like a fencer. He also said he used Broken rhythm to disrupt Rigo's counter punching and nullify his offense. This is the same exact thing I said in my last 2 post when I said " His in and out and start stop reminds me of a fencer the way he closes the gap, the only difference is, he does it with boxing gloves on." Kenny Lopez , and I also said "His footwork offsets the timing of fighters because he's never does things in a set pattern and he uses a lot of broken rhythm."--Kenny Lopez. This was a very good breakdown and Modern Martial Artist seen the same exact things I seen from a lot of film study he's done. I seen this because I know how to apply these concepts and the footwork that Loma uses because of my Jeet Kune Do training. That's why I said he reminds me of me the way he uses footwork because most of the 5 ways of attack are used in this manner. Lomachenko adds other elements into his boxing, this is why he's a puzzle. And he's evolving. One of the things Bruce Lee had said in the opening fight scene of the Game of Death was that rehearsed routine can never deal with Broken Rhythm and he's correct. The minute you keep doing the samething all the time even if you're great at it, and someone forces you to change and you don't know how to adapt because you're used to fighting in a set patternized way, you're done!! This is what happened. No one had ever made Rigo change but than again, no fighter he's ever fought had used broken rhythm like Loma did and has the footwork he possess which is the number one key to all combat. Everything starts from the ground up first. Anyways...great breakdown by Modern Martial Artist.
The problem seemed to be how Rigo reacted to Loma's feints & probes. Through Loma's faints & probes he was able to not only close the gap, to get Rigo into poor positions and lose control of the space between then. And with Rigo's only bending over, his weight seemed only on his back foot which didnt allow him to pivot away, which left him a sitting duck.

Rigondeaux broke his left hand by only landing 15 punches, 5 were suppose to be power shots. Well it only takes one messed up punch and a bone can go, I must of missed that because he would have reacted to the pain. It was odd throughout the fight it looked like Rigondeaux was up for it. Problem is Rigondeaux is a good fighter, he still has a good record but people are gonna remember this for along time, a bad time in his career. Will Rigondeaux rise above up this, learn, maybe evolve? And is who gonna face Lomachenko next and crack the puzzle that is his style?
I think Bob arum made the guy an offer he could not refuse. Bob arum was so happy with Rigo when he got in that ring after the call was made. And Rigo ran his ass over to Loma and Bob to congratulate. Makes no sense. I've seen a lot of Rigo fight footage. The guy does not just sit there ducking down and get tagged, the guy always moves away anytime punches are thrown at him. He never just stands there, never. Sometimes he does that to make people look bad but only then. This shit looked so off from the start.
True, but consider what Loma did as well. I'm guessing no other opponent Rigo's faced before has had movements like that. Unexpected, and in fact dominating, movements tend to change what a fighter does.

You did not mention the most important aspect of all. Rigondeuax's defence was not in place because he can defend so well ONLY against orthodox, not southpaws.
I think the key point you can take away from this fight is not to be one dimensional. Counter punching and defense is fine, but you have to be able to adjust to different styles like Floyd, rather than doing the same thing over and over

what i find interesting is how literally everybody rules out the possibility that rigo isnt lying about injuring his hand in the 2nd round. it seems like a stretch to fake an injury to get out of a fight after campaigning for so long, plus he took almost no damage. i feel like this accusation is fueled by bias. it would at least explain the shift in the fight and his inactivity in the later rounds. i dont understand what the point is of continuing 6 rounds of the same if your best chance at victory, the left counter punch, is gone. rigo's game is built around that left. he gave us 4 more rounds until realizing its pointless so i wouldnt call him a quitter. he dissed others who have quit vs loma and pushed for this fight for months, it seems ridiculous to think he quit just cause of a few jabs. before anybody is claiming i make excuses, im just being realistic and try to see things without bias.

Floyd had the ref & judges on his side (not always, but dude did have like the same ref for over 15 consecutive fights). This sort of win is the stuff that proves greatness. I always thought Rigo would struggle to adjust to Loma’s movement and it will be intriguing to see if anyone can. Interesting stuff!
I watched this once years back and couldn't bear to watch it again. I became a big fan of Rigo soon after and I couldn't bear to watch him get beat down as he did against Loma. But watching this again lets me understand that even flawless fighters can go down. Learn and adapt, and repeat.
You've glossed over the fact that Rigo has never been "one of the greatest of all time", let alone "widely recognized". Nobody considered him that. He's been considered one of the best DEFENSIVE fighters, because he refuses to punch until there's an opening his opponent gives. Rigo has always fought scared, and Lomachenko exposed that.
I'm not gonna lie, I was totally all rigondeaux. But it was really interesting to see how lomachenko pretty much demolished rigos crouching defense. too flatfootted compared to loma's great movement
Symplesy yea. People were saying rigo’s footwork was better then loma and I don’t know where they came to that conclusion. Now people know just how godlike Loma’s footwork really is.

Great analysis...but I believe rigos fear and being intimidated also played a big role...he was too scared to throw a single combo...the mind is a powerful thing..it can dabilitate ones PHYSICAL capabilities.

Lomanchengko is too much for rigo...i feel like rigo doesnt wanna get hurt anymore so he quits..that was weak..we'll see in the news whats really going on with he's left arm if he's really injured or he just lied about it.. Yes it was shocking. Especially for my trainer. We watched this fight together, and we both, during the fight, thought that there was something wrong with rigo, because he was so timid and also NOT USING his left hand. But apart from that he really honored his nickname. Very disappointing that he did nothing to alter his strategy, that's not a sign of a world champion. Nor the holding and other shit. On the other hand, Loma was unbelievable, the best of the best.
Loma fought for 6 rounds with one hand because his other hand was broken and still won every round. Rigo is a sore loser. If you lose take it like a champ.
David Al Loma fought with one hand vs a nobody and went 12 round with a guy that bercherlt destroyed in 4 rounds. This would have been the equivalent of Loma injuring his hand in the second round vs Crawford in his first fight at 140. If that happen it would have look like or worse than this. He probably would have gotten KO because Crawford got power.

It's not like he's a champion of bumfights, he is fighting other trained fighters who fight professionally and beating them consistently, which takes a lot of skill. It's really rude to call professional fightes that train really hard and put their health on the line to entertain everybody and have pretty good records, a nobody. Really really, rude. I mean most pro fighers don't make good money, they do it for the love of the sport, and it only really pays off IF they make it big, and most don't. Moreso, in order to get a title shot, you have to be ranked high enough, you have to be a contender, otherwise the belt won't be on the line and the organization issuing the belt won't give it to you even if you win. Sometimes fighters who hold belts fight non-title fights, however he's fought for a world title on 3 seperate occasions. The fact that when he has faced top level competition he has lost, doesn't mean he sucks or is a nobody, it means he's below that level, which is still pretty high. Not everyone can be top 10 p4p in the world, but apparently you think in order to be a somebody you need to be at that level or something, and very few are. Traditionally what are referred to as tomato cans that pad the records of up and coming boxers, are usually like 50-50 or lower win loss ratio and rarely if ever have held a title or fought for one. How desperate do you have to be to imply that people that are circling around contendorship repeatedly, and have like 20-1 win loss ratios, are cans. They said marriaga was a can as well and he had actually won a world title and defended it once, lost it, then fought loma one fight later and he was a nobody too. So silly and so disrespectful to the sport.

Lomanchenko is a prodigy. He was born with extreme coordination on the level of the world's top athletes. Then on top of that he has the mind for boxing, which he understands at a deep level. He's probably another starchild. We're seeing more and more of them now...

Lomachenko has to be the best most skillful and most entertaining fighter I've ever seen, I've watched most of his fights and never been disappointed with his performance. This man is so skillful he will definitely go down as one of boxings all time greats. By far my favourite fighter ever.

Waris Shah Baba Loma is really that good. There is a reason some call him the glitch in the matrix. He makes it seem too easy. Rigo is not the last guy that Loma is going to pick apart like this. It is fucking scary.
There is no doubt Loma is fucking good at boxing. Rigo is good too though. He wasn't getting his face mauled and he didn't change up any gameplans. He just walked into the ring, kept his head low, and then quit because his hand hurt? It makes no sense. A fighter has pride and would never quit like that.
