Saint Patrick was a 5th-century Romano-British Christian missionary and Bishop in Ireland. Much of what is known about Saint Patrick comes from the Declaration, which was allegedly written by Patrick himself. It is believed that he was born in Roman Britain in the fourth century, into a wealthy Romano-British family. His father was a deacon and his grandfather was a priest in the Christian church. According to the Declaration, at the age of sixteen, he was kidnapped by Irish raiders and taken as a slave to Gaelic Ireland.
It says that he spent six years there working as a shepherd and that during this time he found God. The Declaration says that God told Patrick to flee to the coast, where a ship would be waiting to take him home. After making his way home, Patrick went on to become a priest.
According to tradition, Patrick returned to Ireland to convert the pagan Irish to Christianity. The Declaration says that he spent many years evangelising in the northern half of Ireland and converted thousands.
Patrick's drove "snakes" or evil out of Ireland.
Tradition holds that he died on 17 March and was buried at Downpatrick. Over the following centuries, many legends grew up around Patrick and he became Ireland's foremost saint.
☘️ Saint Patrick used the three-leaved shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to Irish pagans.
The Irish are experts when it comes to partying. They’re so good, in fact, they even have a special untranslatable term - the craic - to describe their unique brand of conviviality. With Trafalgar Square as the setting for London’s official bash in celebration of their patron saint, a blast is pretty much guaranteed.
This year, the extravaganza is taking place on Sunday March 12 and is set to see more than 50,000 turning out for Irish food, dancing and a huge parade featuring pageantry, floats and music that will wend its way from Hyde Park Corner along Piccadilly, St James’s Street, Pall Mall, Cockspur Street and Whitehall.

Francisco Burdett O'Connor (12 June 1791 - 5 October 1871) was an officer in the Irish Legion of Simón Bolívar's army in Venezuela.
He later became Chief of Staff to Antonio José de Sucre and Minister of War of Bolivia.
Aside from Simón Bolívar and Sucre, he is one of the only military officers of the Spanish American wars of independence to be bestowed the title of Libertador (Liberator).
In 1819, Francis O'Connor enlisted in the Latin American independence cause of Simon Bolivar, and sailed from Dublin with 100 officers and 101 men of the Irish Legion under the command of Colonel William Aylmer.
In 1826, Francisco O'Connor was appointed military governor of Tarija (Bolivia).
In 1827, he published a proclamation encouraging Irish people to settle in the 'New Erin' of Tarija.
