Its twofold - she is oblidged to let the bus leaving the bus stop go ahead. At the same time, the bus is only allowed to pull out once the driver allows for it to do so (at least in The Netherlands but I think its the same in the UK?) Many drivers (like the learner here, as the instructor should have told her instead of blaming bus drivers) are unaware that a bus is not the same as a car - its simply much slower and bigger - and that requires a different driving style. As a bus driver, you have to sometimes be more assertive, as inconsiderate drivers can often "lock you in", even though traffic laws (which they ignore) should prevent that. Nonetheless, this bus driver was taking that *way* too far.

It's definitely her fault, if you read the yellow sign at the back side of the bus tells you to give way to the bus and according to the highway code no one has priority in this situation except other motorists should give way to the bus. By the way it's sexist to assume the bus driver is always a "HE" because we have many female bus drivers who are really good professional drivers Edit: now I thought about it, respectfully I believe the instructor should really reconsider their way of training drivers regarding this situation and rethink their perspective on interpreting the Highway Code

To be honest, I think it's somewhat both of their fault because the Highway Code states that buses have the priority and drivers should allow buses to leave their stop. So, she should have allowed him to move out of the bus top. But, it's not entirely the bus driver's fault either because in a large city with lots of traffic, the bus would never leave its stop if it waited for a large enough gap in the traffic to pull out. So, the bus driver took a chance once there was a small gap in the traffic.

The indicators are basically for to indicate towards your direction. For say, you want to go right, you press the right indicator. These can be seen at both front & back of any vehicle and are yellow lights.

Yes, the indicators were on for a while but as you heard them say in the video, it was her right of way. Which means the bus had to wait for a gap or someone to let them go to move into that lane. He should not have manoeuvred.

To be fair, drivers are expected to give priority to buses as per highway code (223) and the bus had the indicator on.

As a former bus operator, it is hard to switch lanes and to get around when nobody wants to let you in. Because nobody wants to be behind a slow, frequently stopping vehicle. So the bus operator must force his way in and or make opportunities.

In Latvia you have to let them go first if it is in the city. In rural areas bus has to wait until the road is clear for them.

Thank you. This video, like others, is useful and we learn through it that there is no need to hold the steering wheel, blame the bus, and laugh when faced with dangers.

In Germany if a bus wants to get on the road and blinks in time while you’re behind it, you HAVE to let him go first. If he’s blinking too late, you can pass it.

So glad that in the US buses all have HUGE indicators. Like wtf is that tiny little circle going to do? Nobody can see it.

If a bus is signalling to merge back in lane from a bus stop, you must let it do so. Bus had right of way basically in this instance.

This is so interesting to me because where I’m from buses always have right of way if they are indicating so you much slow/stop to let them out

He was indicating long before she moved into that space. Always give priority to buses The Highway Code states in rule 223 that you should give priority to buses, coaches and trams, especially when they're signaling to pull away from stop

I learned that you cant just assume that you have the right of way (even when it is your right of way) because some other driver will be convinced that it's their right of way, so you still have to pay attention to your surroundings and be prepared to stop whenever. The bus driver had its blinker on, so I'll take it he wasnt going to wait for you to pass. Should have slowed down because a bus it a lot bigger than the car and will cause more damage if there was an accident

it doesn’t matter if the bus had blinkers on. she still had the right of way and the bus needed to wait until the path was clear
