That Twat Dave was the disabled discrimination act 1995. Yellow and black was used for visually impaired people to denote the edge of the bus platform. White next to a concrete pavement looks similar. So that’s you told off and another great video

Old body builders trick. Put grease or petroleum jelly on the screws before you fit into the timber. This will provide a waterproof seal around the seal, plus it makes it easier to remove ( if you ever need to ) at a later date. Otherwise looks like a great job done

Great job guys. For lying and kneeling on the floor, try some of the Rolson padded floor matting. A box of them that clip together are cheap and it makes the floor comfortable. So much so that I fell asleep on mine whilst cleaning the underside of my bike lol 👍🏼

It doesn't matter if the pole is stainless steel or painted bright yellow, if your head bounces off it because the driver had to take avoiding action while you were stood up it will hurt just as much. AND before anyone says.... yes, but it was..... I am well aware it was done for the partially sighted, however the argument remains the same.

Looks great now. Leave the bright coloured bits for modern plastic buses. I love these old buses . Well built . I think the last good buses built were the Bristol VRs , anything after that were the age of the modern bus. All plastic modular. Well done guys keep up the good work👍

The wooden platform edge is not only "sacrificial" but when one jumps on the back (and misses) it is SLIGHTLY less painful on your shins than a metal platform edge

one thing you could have done is weld the aluminium and remake the holes OR use big washers to cover the holes also cutting disks use the thin 1mm ones you get a much better cut

Much nicer with white edging. I hated all that DipTac rubbish that got thrown at refurbished Routemasters. Might I take this opportunity to introduce you to a multi tool. Great for getting old treadmaster up. I would have been tempted to have used repair washers behind the platform edging or TIG welded some pieces in. I hate bodged jobs. Sadly towards the end of the RM’s service life, bodges were all too frequent. Nice job once again boys. In the meantime, I’m looking forward to helping give RM378 some love ❤️

I am constantly impressed with the attention to detail, and the quality of work that you all bestow on the buses, all incredibly thorough! I also enjoy the videos as they are extremely informative! However your later videos are suffering, they now have the modern tv ‘false jeopardy’ , how will we get it done in time? How an earth can we fix this? Between you guys you can turn your hands to anything! You’re incredibly resourceful, don’t cheapen your efforts! The other problem with later videos is the moaning, on this last job you discovered someone had bodged the platform, it’s good to explain the problem and the issues arising from poor workmanship, but please don’t keep going on and on about! These buses are 60+ years old, they have had a life! Some good some bad maintenance! Keep up the good work, without spoiling your videos 👍🏻

Could have you put a strip of metal on the backside of the platform and then drill it with the proper size holes to hold the bolts for the wood? It seems like that would have been a cleaner solution and would have maintained the original number and location of bolts in the wood edging.
@interdec
@interdec Год назад
Or, simply alloyweld up the holes and re-drill to the correct size. Perhaps also with a strip on the back side! First time I’ve seen these guys doing a bit of a bodge actually!
@LTVoyager

@@interdec I wasn’t sure of their access to a welder and welding skill. I agree that welding is the best method given proper skill and equipment.
@timhines6543
@timhines6543 Год назад
Agreed I would have welded up the holes and plated from the back if it was one of my projects. These sort of repairs take time and sadly with the working fleet its usually the case of getting the job done before the bus is out again the next weekend.

Yes what a nightmare, but even though it took you four days instead of one, you got the better of the job. Very enjoyable to watch. One thing I could never understand, though, about some of these RMs, especially this one, was why they were re-registered to a Greenock (VS) number plate. Could it not be restored to the original London one, I wonder? Many thanks for this video.

I thought the same thing too about the white edging. Some lamp posts in the station I work have white rings painted on for people with impaired vision. Also heard RMs were taken out of service because they were dangerous. They were running for all these years and previous many buses were open plaform. I only saw one accident on a RT, but against the billions of journey's, they were safe enough. Why did RMCs/RCLs have doors I wonder.
@ianpegge9967

I always presumed it was because they were used on longer distance services and it kept them warmer in the winter. With limited stops the delays caused by opening and closing the doors was negligible.

The center one is the brake light, back in the days when only one was required mounted either center or on the offside, still road legal if vehicle first registered before the regulations changed. The same as RT's and RF's that have the single offside rear light still.
