London Edinburgh London is a World famous audax event.
londonedinburghlondon.com
Over 1500 kilometres, with 13,000 metres of climbing.
The 2022 edition had 2000 entries, with 50% travelling from overseas.
The event is something I have wanted to do for years, and had entered pre-COVID and the event had been postponed a year for that reason.
My personal aim was to push my body and see how I would react and cope over multiple days. I know my single-day endurance is good but I have not attempted a multi-day day event with limited sleep.
A truly incredible experience, although it was certainly a tough few days on the bike.
Check out the pre-LEL bike & kit check video: • London Edinburgh Londo...

An awesome ride - respect. But also, thanks for the way you filmed this, which provided an insight into the highs and lows of an event such as this.

Great Vlog Matt, I did it as a 53 year old, Not as quick as yourself (118hrs) LOL, but it does capture everything. I'm sharing it with everyone that I know, to give them an in-site. Now a subscriber and instagram follower. Meet you this year at Andy Coxs 400 out of aberystwyth. All the best Rob C.

Champion!! I did York-Edinburgh a month ago, and can attest to it being pretty hilly - I can't imagine going this far though. I'm watching with subtitles, and "downhill to Edinburgh" came out as "downhill to swearing bro", which is definitely how I was feeling at that point!

Great video Matt. It would have been easy not film and share the low points so thank you for your honesty and transparency….even the best of the best has low days…that has gave me hope buddy. Could I ask what camera you used to film it? Thanks.
@MattPage
@MattPage Год назад
Thank you. The camera on the bike is a GoPro 7. Some other bits with a hero 10. The 10 has a better picture, but the mount doesn't work so well when trying to use on the bike.

@SaddleSore
@SaddleSore Год назад
@@MattPage unbelievable emotions: from the utter euphoria of drilling it over the Lincolnshire Wolds on my own at night to the desperation of being utterly exhausted going back across the Fens. I nearly bailed at Spalding and cried several times but stopping was never really an option.
@MattPage
@MattPage Год назад
@@SaddleSore I'm glad it wasn't just me who hated the Fens. Hours upon hours of pedalling and feeling like you were getting nowhere.
@BikepackingAdventures
@BikepackingAdventures Год назад
I could have told you both the Lincolnshire fens would be brutal, I've never ridden LEL but ridden many of the places on this side of the country. I live in Northern Lincolnshire and seldom visit the South of the county for the reasons you felt during LEL. When the wind is up and against you, your pedalling and literally going nowhere. For me its the long straight roads that go on for miles and miles without a single kink that do it it for me more than anything else - plain boring.

Hey Matt amazing ride! You mentioned wanting to use the me same bib for the whole ride…any recommendation? What brand and model do you like best for 60hr efforts? 😂
@MattPage
@MattPage Год назад
Thanks Adam. There are several good shorts, and almost all the chamois pads are made by the same company, although to the short manufacturers preference. Personally, I like Castelli and ASSOS and Alé top of the range pads are good too. The cheaper ones less so. With Castelli I like the Progetto X2 air pad, which is available on some good value shorts from about £60.
@aemediainc
@aemediainc Год назад
@@MattPage thanks for your insights. I wore out my first ale bib and the next pair I’ve got I’m fairly disappointed, I got massive saddle sores after 300 of an 840km ride. Everyone says stick to rapha or assos.
@MattPage
@MattPage Год назад
@@aemediainc the Alé shorts I have are the Velocity HD2, which are the top version. The cheaper ones are nowhere near as good. ASSOS and Rapha are both good, but a little more money than some other brands.

Different people have satisfaction in different things. There is no pot hunting, as there is nothing to hunt. I can get motivated and enjoyment from pushing myself. Others are motivated just by completing the route.
