Just take a close look at them: Gypsys are very similar in appearance to Afghans, Pakistani, Indians, Bangladeshi! Their ancestors came from this area, therefore this people are their ralatives, cousins and share common ancestry with all Afghans, Pakistani, Indians and Bangladeshi! Friedrich Kass you as a Hungarian, (assuming you are Magyarok) are genetically closer to the Roma people than say a Punjabi from Pakistan is related to a Bengali from Bangladesh. Phenotypes aren't a good indication of genetic distance. But that wasn't my point, my point was that it is ignorant to say that Roma's are more related to Afghans, Pakistanis, Indians and Bangladeshis as if Afghans, Pakistanis, Indians and Bangladeshis are ethnic groups to begin with (they are national identities) or that they are all closely related (they are not). Roma people are thought to have descended from people related to those who inhibit the Rajasthan today. They mixed a lot with those they met on their journies to the point that today they are more related to the people they live with than the modern inhabitants of where they originated from.

As a Romanian, I used to live in London for a couple of years though currently residing in Japan. While there were people that often confused my ethnicity for my minority friends in Europe, the Japanese always took me for the white European that I am. It's not that I'm racist or anything, but I bet half of the brits would take offense should someone mislabel them as Irish for example. It's all about getting your facts straight

3 years later, I will add...I actually live in an area with a large roma population. Romanichal to be exact. They are x generation Americans and make their living running psychic businesses and auto body shops. I saw an American romanichal family "begging" exactly once in 30 years here and they were actually not begging but selling candy...under the guise of being a charity but they obviously did not do this regularly and I'm pretty sure they needed the money as no American rom wants to spend their night standing outside of a Walmart trying to sell candy. However today I came across a romani lady from Europe begging outside of a store with her small child. This lady I am sure was part of a begging ring where begging in itself becomes the profession. The roma in Europe often live in shocking destitute poverty. However contributing towards professions that contribute nothing to the economy perpetuates that poverty. My romanichal neighbors contribute to the economy. They can fix your car or tell your fortune (it's BS but they pay some taxes) or even sell you some slightly discounted candy when they are pressed for rent. A lot of romanichal run scrap and recycling yards, pressure washing or similar businesses. They work hard and contribute goods and services. Begging as a profession though contributes nothing and they often do it with children who should be in school or at the very least off playing somewhere. If you see such beggars call the police on them. They need to know they can't get away with that here.

I live in a very multicultural community here in Canada, the melting pot as we call it, and I'm proud of my roots here in Canada as well as my Romanian half. I find it despicable some of the things people say about Romania when they haven't even bothered travelling there or reading a proper document about the country and its history. Unfortunately when they don't find any work and they sleep rough, they turn into crime, I've seen too many of them pick pocketing around Marble Arch & Oxford St, in one occasion as well in Shepherds Bush, 2 of them stalked me pretending to be Middle Easterns as well, wearing a full scarf, when I realized something was up with them, and distant my self from them , they started to swear at me. They were very abusive & scary.
Send them back , or put them in the prison , and then put them to work for £10 wage per day in arrest regime , to let them know how is to survive working .
