Business enquiries: Railwaycatriiyu@gmail.com There was a driver change at Therapia Lane and the second driver insisted on closing the blind. Sorry for the sketchy video from that point!
I remember in the 80's it taking 1 hour to get to Croydon on the bus during rush hour. Now it takes 15 mins regardless of the time of day. Yes more Trams are needed.
Sometimes wondered what the tram journey was like; now I know. So, thank you for that. I was surprised at how much of it they have managed to produce as a totally dedicated system without running down streets.
Greetings from France. Very nice video! Back in 1971 I was in secondary school and stayed in Caterham during Easter break, we used to go to London by bus and would pass by Waddon Marsh HALT, then a rail station, quite funny to see it as a tram stop now!
Such a pity the blinds came down after Waddon Marsh. Actually, some of this route follows the earliest railway namely the Surrey Iron Railway built in 1820. The carts were hired and were pulled by horses. I travelled the British rail train from Wimbledon to West Croydon which more or less follows the tram route.
we have in the bay area of San francisco and the surrounding areas a tram system called BART Bay Area Rapid Transit, and the funnest things for the kids is to be able to watch through the doors window of where the operator sits , but like here, then they always tend to eithr hang their jacket or whatever totally blocking the view....
Quite scenic. Especially from New Addington. I rode Tramlink from Beckenham Junction to Wimbledon on a visit from the US around 2000. My home city Portland Oregon has a tram system called Tri Met MAX.
I just returned home from London and I had a wonderful time during my long-overdue vacation. I loved riding this tram, and I see my favorite chicken place coming in @ 21:05 - KFC! Thank you so much for this awesome upload.
The New Addington run is interesting. Between Addington Village and the Sandilands Tunnel, you really feel like you're in the countryside; next minute you're in Central Croydon!
An excellent video, thanks a lot. I want more of tram videos if possible. But why the majority of tram stops are on the left while a few others are on the right? Interesting. Do all London trams have doors on both sides?
There must be a security system in this place, which applies the emergency brakes in case of excessive speed. Valencia metro accident in 2006 was caused due the same reason, as AWS was not present.
We call it a tramway (and the units are trams) here in the UK. Technically its classed as light rail tramway. Most systems running today in the UK are of that type. Germans called it Strassenbahn, or "street train" as it is a light rail unit that shares some level of running on the road with road traffic, such as the Berlin and Cologne (Koln) systems.
Canada Russ here, i wish i could travel 🇪🇺 but now here we are, day 800ish of covid.. it seems traveling anywhere is forever done.. i love you all my fellow man! Please be kind and respectful to your fellow man.
totally agree, theres no aws to remind drivers of the severe speed reduction just coming out of the tunnel at 13.57, why dont they have speed limit boards at the side of the track? surelt its gotta help on the slow bends if there was a board displaying the max speed limit just before the bend, just like u have on the railway,
I've noticed that, as you come out of the tunnel, the oncoming track in the distance helps to kid you that the line goes straight on. A new or inexperienced driver (or one who's just half asleep) could make a mistake.
yeh i thought that, because uve got that other line joining it u could easily think that was your track just carrying straight on. Im surprised at the sheer speed that these trams do, thought they would only do 30 mph max
Daniil Trokhimenko they are there to prevent trespassing on to certain sections of the track. Particularly Sandilands Tunnel section and on the Wimbledon branch which is classed as a closed piece of track.
Im in training right now at Croydon Tramlink. They usually advertise around twice a year for drivers and have just taken down their advertisement so it may not be for a while yet. You don’t need any qualifications in particular, although you need a full UK drivers licence. You need to pass assessments, such as a concentration test, an interview and a medical. Hope that helps. I’m aware you posted this comment 4 years ago but I replied in case you’re still interested
Too bad the wiper was on from 07.30 to 14.00. Even in the tunnel. I didn't see any raindrops. But I enjoyed the ride, especially on those fast straight paths!
A terrific idea to reduce traffic congestion. Glad to see so many people taking advantage of a worry free journey. Where is the control centre operating the signals and points? Obviously, location of each tram must be known. Wish this scheme could spread to other towns and cities!
A bit late but the control centre is based at Therapia Lane, from 28:30 on the left hand side. I think the points/signals are set locally though, would have to recheck that
Unbothered No. Unlike mainland trains the signs are in kilometres per hour NOT miles per hour. The trains themselves have a top speed of 80kph (50 in mph)
at every stop keep hearing that recording about a penalty Fare, would hate to guess how much extra THAT penalty fare actually is...LOLO 23:32. Gotta pick up the speed to make it up that hill...lol
I saw one tram vid where it slipped back down to the bottom. The driver reversed for a bit at the bottom then it was pedal to the metal all the way up. Autumn leaves, hills and tram track dont mix.
Those announcements get somewhat annoying after a while. Surprised to see a driver, i was expecting a computer especially with those nasty sharp turns. Imagine if the driver was half asleep coming out of that tunnel - i swear i could see the tracks going straight on. Looks like there is an extra center rail at 23:35 for extra power up that hill lol
Hi there. Can you please confirm that this is your own footage? If so, may we use it on BBC News and Social outlets? Please email haveyoursay@bbc.co.uk. Thank you.
Two McDonald'ses in Croydon, maybe it's the closest distance between them ever in the world, except ones which are on different sides of motorway gas station
Had to watch with the sound muted. That so-called music was enough to drive a person to suicide and spoilt an otherwise excellent video. David Cutter should be prosecuted for fraud. A two year old could have come up with that horrible repetitive row! Music it was NOT.
