London Transport Buses 1988-Routemasters at West Hampstead 

Good video of the Routemasters. It took until the June of 1970 for RMs to have full control of the runnings through the West Hampstead area. Wandsworth received a first-time allocation of the type intended for the 28 with buses transferred from Hounslow when the 81 group went driver only single deck. The 159 was lucky in June 1970. A massive culling of routes 18 and 266 both were cut back from Edgware Station provided RMs for the 159 and I think some from Stamford Hill and Wood Green where the 243 was upgraded to RML. I'll check again but definitely right regarding the 18 and the 266 because Alperton and Cricklewood had their Routemasters transferred upon one man operation and introduction of the new routes.

Poor old RM2075 was in a terrible state - sad to see when you remember how LT kept the fleet in previous years.

I did like these buses when my Nan took me on the bus in and around East London. Especially to Romford and Ilford.

Last days of the white roundel on the side. Already gone on some of the buses. London Transport no more, and how tatty the Routemasters began to look. Hello London Buses, and come this way private companies, bring your mixed colour, tired second-hand provincial buses and 'bread van' crap minibuses for your chunk of the greatest bus system in the world. Shame.
