This particular train had spent the night between Theydon Bois and Epping on the Central Line depositing ballast onto the track and was travelling back to it's depot.

Sometimes, but they have to be able to operate under battery power when at worksites, as the traction current has to be discharged for the safety of the workers on the track.

I've noticed that L26 has roundels on now too!

@@AlexMetroman From a photo on Flickr? 😉😂 All reference to Tube Lines now being removed from the loco's, and quite a few now have the Underground roundel. Interestingly the new liveried HW's have a prominent TransPlant on the sides which isn't easy to remove! 🙄

Yes, they have to be able to operate under battery power when at worksites, as the traction current has to be discharged for the safety of the workers on the track. They can run on traction current to and from the sites and charge at the depots.
