Most appreciation for the video and kudos to the Londoners on their extensive and high quality trains and metro/rapid transit system. The interaction amongst the trains and the elongated routes at high speeds is most impressive. I wonder if the people of London have an appreciation for their train network as a person viewing same, having only a video experience, for one here in the States doesn't have anything as high quality with beautiful trains running on third rails for such long routes.
London and the South East of England has a great train service but unfortunately this comes at the expense of the rest of the country. Although there has been some improvements in the North of England recently, it's still extremely substandard compared to Londons rail infrastructure.
A train stalled over a gap in the conductor rail of an electric railway is said to be "gapped". This occurs when the shoes on the train which collect the current have all lost contact with the current rail due to gaps left for junctions. Particularly prevalent at complex junctions such as the entrances to yards. See also conductor rail. A driver who has "gapped" his train will always be the subject of ridicule from his peers. Knowing where the gaps are is part of road learning.
Really fantastic to see this perspective of a journey that I have taken so many time before as a passenger . The view in the tunnel with the exit slowly coming closer is fascinating - almost hypnotic. I noticed that in my journies the majority of drivers sound the horn on entering the tunnel - doesn't seem to be the case here. Is sounding the horn at the discretion of the driver?

You know what blows the most, since lifespan of a train is like 40, 50 years for the next few decades these are the speeds and trains that we will see. There will be no substantial improvement until all people watching this video are very old or dead.
Better than air travel. That has got Slower since the demise of concorde. Not only that but speeds in the air have remained static for decades and will continue to do so for some time to come.
@@timfy2162 I know this is a 5 year old comment, but even back then Aviation was about Range and Economy not speed. And in terms of range and economy, aviation hasn't stopped developing at an incredible rate since. Speed was deemed impractical, outdated and costly. After all, the faster something is, the more fuel it burns. And when it comes to aircraft, you generally have to pick between high speed aerodynamics or low speed ones, because designing for both becomes very technical and costly. Fine for a military aircraft where reliability isn't an issue if you have the right numbers of aircraft. Not really viable in a commercial application.

It means that the telephone provided has restricted clearance so must only be used in an emergency once you've stopped trains on the other line. Lineside telephones have mostly been superseded by in-cab radios now.

It's not a 460 but a 442, you can tell because of the hissing you often hear, which is the "automatic air brake" venting the train pipe (which applies the brakes). Class 460s don't have these types of brakes.
