What a fantastic video Angela, I loved all of the information you provided - you're doing such a brilliant job narrating, especially considering how long this video is and you kept the facts flowing throughout! 👍

@ChattyWalkswithAngela 4 года назад
Thank you so much Mr WW, it is really appreciated, a lot👍 I am enjoying narrating, but it does mean a longer lead time into a video. So yesterday for example, I really wanted to film utilising the lovely weather, but didn't have time to research a walk so ended up not filming at all. And given our lack of good weather this winter for filming, that may have been a mistake! Great to hear from you as always:) Angela

@@ChattyWalkswithAngela Although your narrated walks require a substantial increase in prep time, I believe it's well worth it considering the end results! And don't feel too bad about not making the most of these sunny days, you're not the only one!

@@craigyb71 Thank you so much for that really positive feedback and yes, are right, it's the first time I have done 'proper' research before a walk, so it's great to hear it paid off. And I agree, I would like to keep a mix of the two types of video on the channel - I might even copy Mr Watched Walker and film the Canary Wharf lights, which is something that IMHO is better without narration. Thanks again for your support:) Angela

You are very welcome Tina, it was actually really nice recording a video with a particular audience and need in mind, it helped a lot:) When you are in London it will look nicer than in this video, there will be leaves on the tree and the sun much higher in the sky. Hi Angela, Thanks for the mention. The streets around Bloomsbury are my sort of London. I like that the backstreets are for the most part quiet, historic, and unspoilt by crowds polluting traffic and skyscraper glass and steel buildings. These parts of London need to be saved an savoured. It's my mission these days to seek out parts of London, that still feel like London, but defy a lot of what people have come to associate with London.
@ChattyWalkswithAngela
@ChattyWalkswithAngela 4 года назад
Hey there John, isn't it lovely that these places still exist:) If there are any places you think I should cover then do share - unless you want to keep them to yourself that is! (wouldn't blame you at all) And yes, I was keen to give you the shout out as that walk was one of the possibles for Strand-King's Cross walking as you mentioned. If I had time to research the Inns, I would have filmed yesterday or today in our lovely blue skies and sunshine, but the day job, of course, intervenes.... Great to hear from you as always and I hope you had a lovely Christmas and new year. Angela

Let's Walk London I think the motto is, is keep to the backstreets, and avoid the main thoroughfares, obviously upmarket residential areas are quieter and unspoilt by modern development. In these areas the main point of interest is seeking out the former homes of famous people, also lovely garden squares to look at. You could do a walks around Primrose Hill and Hampstead in the north, Notting Hill, Kensington, and Chelsea in the west. One of my favourite places is Richmond, because it's still feels like London, with red buses connecting it with Hammersmith and Fulham and black cabs, and the tube, but it's like a small town in its own right.

@@johnorchin8567 I agree with everything you say, and the 'John Orchin' section of my ideas list is getting ever-longer! Re: Hampstead, a chap whose dog turned up in one of the videos in Green Park suggested doing 'how to get to the ladies pond' on Hampstead Heath as apparently people get a bit lost. And Richmond is a great idea, just a bus ride from Kingston so not far for me. Thanks as always for all your thoughts, Angela

I used to manage the Brunswick Centre when I worked for Camden council. The council purchased it from a hotel chain that was going to use it for renting rooms in 1960s but it failed and they lost a lot of money so sold it to council for peppercorn price. It is a very interesting building as it was designed to be self contained village with shop laundry, bakery etc all undercover.. Thank you Angela for a trip down memory lane.

Picking out the feel of the neighborhood is what I like, and you are so good at it. Quite backstreets, you are not afraid to peek into shops. I've seen Brunswick Center. It is just like many others, but now I've seen it. The menu of that restaurant on Russel Square made my day. Usually web bloggers think that these are unimportant details, to me these are the most important, :) . Doughty Mews really is a "sweet little street", so why not showing it? And the fact that there is the pub called "The Duke" at the far end even makes it better, :) . All those tiny details that only natives know are much more interesting to me than looking at traffic, or even the history lessons. Though, you did miss one important place from the past. In the summer of 1963., when The Beatles first moved down from Liverpool to London, the very first place they were staying at was hotel President, right next to Imperial hotel. The front cover of "On Air - Live at the BBC Volume 2" shows them in front of the hotel: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/On_Air_%E2%80%93_Live_at_the_BBC_Volume_2 encounterswithnubia.com/like-the-beatles-at-the-hotel-president-in-1963/ BTW, don't be afraid to focus on the dog, when you see one, we also want to see him more closely, ;) .
@ChattyWalkswithAngela
@ChattyWalkswithAngela 4 года назад
Oh my goodness, where to start with your amazing comment! Last bit first, and wow, that's a fabulous piece of information about the Beatles that I didn't know - I wish I could add something to the video about it (RU-vid doesn't have that any more as far as I know). I might just put a pinned comment though. So thanks for that, some brilliant pictures there of them. And dogs, yes, dogs, I love them and they tend to love me, will even run across roads to say hello to me (and embarrass their owners), which is why they make a regular appearance in my videos. I'm glad to hear you like seeing them and I'll definitely keep it up. Thank you for the lovely words about this type of video - getting to the heart of stuff is a real passion for me, so as well as the standard tourist places, I like to step into the lesser-known spots or the less obvious ones and have a good look around, often just a street or two away from the main attractions. I just mentioned to Watched Walker above that it is affecting the lead times to do more detailed research, but everyone, including me, seems to like it better that way. And of course, I assume everyone wants to know prices and what food is on offer and what the shops sell! I'm very shy to film in a private shop or building without permission, but I'm thinking of asking around a bit to see if people will let me in future videos. And yes, I often find streets, neighbourhoods, shops and cafes 'sweet', because, well, they are....! Thank you so much for your support, much appreciated:)
@MarioPetrinovich
@MarioPetrinovich 4 года назад
@@ChattyWalkswithAngela Maybe to add few more comments, sorry if it will be longish, you don't have to read it. Watched Walker puts Google Maps' map of the trip in the description. This shouldn't be difficult to do. This brings me to the question of orientation. Seeing your video from my chair in some far away town only gives me something like 30 % sense of reality. Putting Google Map in the description helps, but you only see this at the start, you cannot interrupt watching video by looking at this all the time. There is a thing called "ramp". You cannot use it, but it will explain the situation. When you watch some sporting event, you will notice that all the cameras are only at one side. There is a line (the "ramp"), and you have to put all your cameras only on one side of that line, if you put one camera on the other side, this will create confusion. Imagine slalom covering. All the cameras are only on one side, if you put only one camera on the other side, your orientation will go to pieces. This goes for every sporting event. Now, you cannot do something like that, but instead you did one incredibly smart thing. Whenever you mention "Euston station is right there." my sense of reality and orientation immediately jumped to 100 %. Without you mentioning this I could have guessed where I am, but this is only guessing. Maybe I am confusing something, who knows? When you say it clearly, I am immediately planted at that spot, 100 %. Regarding going into private shops, it is not necessary, it is enough to shoot shop window. "Walkers" are usually just passing by all those shops. You don't know what are they selling, you eventually only glimpse. That's far from enough. You just shoot shop windows, and this would be just fine. You did this a lot in this particular video, its alright, at least we know what's there. You did good, you could, eventually, do just a bit more of that, :) . The same goes for pubs, restaurants, coffee shops. In this video I've seen people in some place drinking coffee, eating some cakes, doing stuff on laptops. All through window. Excellent, usually I don't see any of that with other walkers, I just see always the same streets, time and time again. Just continue doing that. Maybe through window we can see how some pub looks like inside. But chairs and tables that are outside are also interesting. Every pub has his style. If you don't point your camera to tables and chairs I will only see them from distance. What a waste. The "Forbidden Planet" story was also excellent. See, you don't have to go inside. Maybe there is some football stadium near by, maybe there is some pub where football fans gather after the game. Interesting, good story. Maybe there is some youth hostel nearby. Young people are walking around, visiting this pub, shopping at this grocery store. Good story, now I know that there are plenty of young people there, or professors from some University, or actors from some theater, or ballet dancers? Of course, you don't know that much, but what you do know, there is no need to hide this info, ;) . Also, very few walkers go outside the center. Just recently I've seen some park walking, but again, only park. London has numerous community centers. I've read that there is some 200 of them. Each has its own character. Some are posh, some are poorer, there is numerous different cultures, races, religions in London, each withing their neighborhood. Some neighborhoods are full with young people, some are for businessmen. And finally, my own little "professional deformation", I am retired train driver (still young, though, train drivers retire early). Europe in general has very good public transport, but all those travelers from America mention that even for European standards London is a step higher. I've been in London and I am amazed by London's public transport. In this video you showed the inside of Russell Square tube station. Oh, what a joy, :) . A lot of those stations have more than one enters, maybe to describe those, in short. Overground stations are usually neglected by walkers, maybe to mention those when you pass nearby. BTW, did you know that there is one place where Overground passes under Underground? Whitechapel, :) .

@@MarioPetrinovich Hello Mario and thank you for that detailed response, it is REALLY helpful. I am pasting it into my RU-vid channel ideas document to refer to the for the future:) I think I need to film that little bit of the underground at Whitechapel actually, it turned up on a quiz show recently too! Re: Google maps, I tried to do that when I started out, but am very untechnological and made a right mess of it, so I'll look up some RU-vid videos on how to do it. And yes, you have reminded me of the importance of telling the viewer exactly where I am and what there is to be looking at in a location. I will definitely keep pointing the camera in windows and try to be a bit braver to go inside as I get more confident! Angela

Yes, this was the first London address for the Fab Four (The Beatles). Later they rented various apartments. By 1964/5 John and Ringo bought houses at St. George's Hill Estate, Weybridge (17 miles away from city center, a gated community), and lived there until 1968. In 1965 George bought a bungalow close to John and Ringo, in nearby Esher, Claremont Estate, also gated community. He lived there until 1970. Paul, at first, lived in his girlfriend (actress Jane Asher) father's terraced house, in Marylebone. In 1966 he bought a house near Abbey Road studios. I believe that this is the closest to the city center where you can buy a detached house with some land around. St. John's Wood, near Lord's Cricket Ground. BTW, if somebody has some extra cash, and likes to collect interesting houses, John's house at St. George's Hill Estate is on sale right now. Only 9 million pounds, :) : www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-60986546.html
