🚨🚨🚨Good day Ian. Seems someone is using your channel...logo...and name to scam us with fake prizes....in a past comment of mine "you" contacted me to respond with a personal message in Telegram. Apparently I won a BMW GS......just giving you a heads up
On my locking system there seemed to be a cut out for that excess weld. I’m hesitant to grind mine down in case it’s there for bmw hard cases and I decide down the road to go that direction
“Tears of KTM riders” 🤣🤣🤣 love the subtle humor you sneak in to your videos. Great info as always…made my decision on soft bags both easier and harder 🍻.
Though soft bags are a “thing” and make sense for ADV motocamping, as a motel to motel rider, it is much more comforting to be able to lock my hard bags and head to my room without worrying about some tweaker with a pocket knife
You know that with a pocket knife you can open your hard case too? They are not bomb proofed safes. And the discussion soft vs hard is old as the earth itself. Would you say the soft bags here are more expensive then good hard cases I agree
@@DieTabbi well, with a pick-up and a few guys, you can steal the whole bike. Ask my son. 😫. We’re all looking for the perfect single bike setup which of course doesn’t exist forcing some to own multiple bikes.
Bought the same bags last year , fantastic gear , from build quality to quickness for fitting & semi Ridged for storage. Great product can’t fault them

I have the LR motobags on my 1290. Love them they are a great bag. I use them when my trip is off road & camping. The 31 L bag holds all my camping gear and the 38L holds everything else. Better than the stock hard bags that came with the bike. Just ordered the Moto Pegs will see how they work off road. LR makes a great product and I paid for mine worth every penny
I have both the LR bags and the OEM BMW hard boxes for my GSA. The obvious disadvantages of the LR bags are the reduced capacity and the fact that with the OEM boxes you only need one key for the bike. The advantage is that the LR bags are much more resistant to damage from dropping the bike or clipping an obstacle which is a big plus when you're on a tour. However the one big downside for me with the LR bags is the folding and locking system which is a PITA, especially when the bags are new, and takes much longer than closing and locking the lids on the OEM hard boxes. Btw, the LR bags are waterproof and I have never used the supplied dry bags. On a recent tour of Scotland, mostly in the rain, I just put my luggage directly into the LR bags and it remained completely dry throughout. The LR bags are an excellent product just let down a bit by the closing system
I recently bought the Moto Bags and the quality is amazing. However I am having a hard time fitting them to my R1250 GSA even though they come pre adjusted for this bike. The offset bag I can’t get a snug secure fit to that side of the bike (exhaust side). Any one else have a simulate issue and fix? Before you say it… yes I’ve read the Instructions and watched and followed the install video a dozen times lol
Lone Rider’s marketing department is working overtime in recent months/years. Good review but I’m missing a little “Ian objectivity”. LR had a novel idea offering a decent, although expensive, change up from standard GSA (Touratech) hard boxes. The latter are still far easier to take on/off and lock more securely. Personally, I’ll stick with the hard cases, they haven’t ever let me down - even with the bike being down off-road. The LR gear does look cool, though.
They did ask that I do an impressions video in exchange for the gear. I also have videos with other brands on my channel including Mosko Moto (upcoming), Tusk, Bumot, SW Motech and others. I appreciate your feedback and I will try to stay as objective as humanly possible.
Velcro everywhere but no positive security. I have not been a big fan of velcro as the prime method of securing bags to bikes. Also more molle on ends of side cases to better secure fuel bottles. What is there is low and too few rows for my liking. Be interested in seeing you put 1 or 1.5 liter water or fuel bottles filled up on those molle sections and go do light off road to see if there is a ton of movement or other issues.
A bit off topic, but..... I was watching your GSA vs AT video and you mentioned chain maintenance and said you had covered that in previous videos. Can you point me to one, or some of these videos! I queried your home page and it didn't come up. I'm really interested in your take on chains. Thanks!
They don’t break your leg for a start ! The hard panniers broke my leg 2 days into a 10 day ride on a beach in Western Australia. Dangerous bloody things. Soft is better.
Feels too much like an infomercial Ian. That's not why we come to your site... Would have been so much better if you did an honest comparison between this and the other options on the market - that would be an interesting video! This, not so much...
I run the LR Motobags (31/38L) on my 2017 Honda AT. I'm using the quick releases on the touratech SS panier racks without issue. They have been extremely waterproof. I give them no care. I attach LR minibags and roll bags, Kreiga, and SW Motech bags to the LR Motobags molle and rok straps. I have no complaints. Yes they are expensive...no denying that. But so are any Mosko product. All this foolish talk about hard vs soft bags being more secure is a null point. If someone wants your sh!t it's going to take your fists to prevent that from happening. ;-)
The thing I find about Ian pitching products is he is not pitching the company; just reviewing from his opinion. Kudos to him and kudos to companies who send products to him!
Lone Rider customer support would not honor the warranty on my bags because I was not the one who purchased them, even though they were still under warranty. The piece I needed cost maybe $1 but they would not help me out, I even offered to pay for it. They told me I had to buy the full replacement. Other than that they are great bags and I’ve been thinking about doing the quick release upgrade on my bags. I need to find out if the quick release hinges add to the overall width.
the locks you use for your bags can be opened in less than 30 sec without knowing the combination. i did some experimenting with this a couple of years ago. you can pull on the lock and while keeping the pressure rotate the numbers one at a time until they click. when all of them has clicked it will be unlocked. you can probably do it with my instructions. an experienced person does this in less than 10 seconds. i think the combination locks that has the combination numbers lining a different way than the locking pin is more secure and im sure you will investigate this now. good luck. thanks for the great review as always.
I’ve got these motobags and I didn’t like the supplied combination locks for keeping the bags closed, so at the hardware store I bought rubberised keyed padlocks with the thickest shanks I could find that can still fit the bags.
Thanks Ian, I am looking at these and the Mosko Moto bags. How about a longer comparison vid? I like how these lock so that is a plus for them but just not sure which I will go with but will probably wait until later this year to finally decide.
That big adapter plate on the exhaust side is ridiculous, should stay on bike. I prefer my Mosko backcountry 35’s on my AT. Bullet proof, lockable with cable lock, easy to install, latch and carry into hotel.
I didn't know about the bar bag. Something I would definitely try as I don't like tank bags. I definitely prefer semi-rigid over hard for impact situations. These seem to have good security too.
Hi Ian....could you please compare the Lone Riders vs the Bumot Xtremada? Key differences and if it's worth the money to buy the Lone Riders instead of the Bumot which are cheaper Thanks!
Conclusion:- If I am correct the GSA kit would be costing around 2000 $ . If you can afford it go for it, don't look elsewhere. If not then no worries, other options are available 😉 😊 Ride on 💨💨
As a sr product exec, I will say it defies logic that this manufacturer (and others) chose to design and build panniers that require the purchase and installation of a mounting rack rather than take advantage of the pannier mounting points BMW already had integrated into the bike’s design and are used for BMW panniers. Some will say that it was to address all bikes, but BMW owns this market share and that should have been the first priority. That said, Lone Rider has put out videos showing a “rackless” pannier they’re intending to release (date yet announced).
Hi Ian, for your Lone Rider system review. You mentioned in your review that you had highway pegs on your GSA. I am trying to find highway pegs that I can put on my GSA that when I slam into the dirt they won’t twist around and break the engine casing. Do you have your highway pegs set up in such a manner that when dropping the bike in the dirt or on the asphalt that they couldn’t twist around to damage the engine? so can you tell me more about the highway pegs and where you mounted them? Very much for all of your wonderful videos!
I found the Mosko Backcountry too heavy and wanted a soft set of bags that I could interchange with my hard lockable bags. The mounting plate on the Mosko was a non starter. I looked the Lone Rider set up but there quick release wasn't ready at the time and they were $$. The Giant Look Round the Word bags are a great solution at a very reasonable price. Just got back from a 3400 mile trip with them (Top of The Rockies ride) and they worked great and detach in seconds.
I’d love to try a pair, but that’s an expensive try lol I have the Mosko’s and love their bags but the idea of a cross between hard and soft bags I find interesting.
Great video, many thanks! 🙂 But my Touratech paniers (hard bags) are a lot more comfortable, top loader (open it up with one hand...), can put further stuff on top of the hard bag, secure...so why use LR paniers if you' re not an offroader?
Bonjour, je suis désolé mais je ne parle pas Anglais, je voulais savoir si votre housse de selle pilote est vraiment efficace et que vous apporte t'elle ? Et bravo pour votre vidéo
I already have the BMW hard bags and top case so I’m not in the market for those but the headlight guard and the crash bar bags look like something I would use.
Interesting bags, on an other note, this bike start to be as wide as a small car 😂 I don’t think if I owned this bike I would put anything on the side of the crash bars.
The weight of those bags, the plates and the whole rack, is just too much, it’s approx. the same weight of my total setup, with my kit AND the bags. I don’t understand why people actually choose this style of luggage any more…
It’s not a weight saver compared to aluminium luggage is it? I bought my motobag set for an upcoming long solo bike trip. I’m concerned about busting aluminium luggage in a low speed drop, and also getting my leg hurt under said luggage. I’m hoping this large capacity semi-rigid luggage (38 litres on each side) can help mitigate against luggage / bike damage and foot / ankle injury to me from a low-speed drop.
I've had a frustrating experience with their quick-release bracket. 1. If you bolt the hardware pieces onto the long slots of the bracket, rather than the bolt-sized holes, those hardware pieces could migrate, especially if you drop your bike. Then the quick-release bracket is no longer snug on the pannier rack. My solution was to drill holes into the bracket to make sure every bolt was in a bolt-sized hole. 2. The bracket only fits 18 mm diameter tube racks. The site says 16-18, but at 16, there is a lot of play on the metal clamp. Even worse is if your bike has only racks made by American manufacturers. Then your options are equivalent to 15.9 mm or 19 mm.
Ian thank you for all you do. You're videos have greatly improved, and I now have liked and became a sub. Love the area you live in, used to live and ride up there a lot. Im now up in NOR Cal Sierra foothills and my property is hosting Mr. Tkacs training... next year. You should come up with your beautiful wife and do some video collaborations... thanks for all your info you share.
