I am watching on TV yet coming here to comment. I have only had a laying down MRI and someone told me it's only 1.8 mm and I have loads of symptoms! Of course I am still fighting for answers or to prove this is causing my health issues. I am part of a FB chiari group and relate to them or I have posted and they relate to me.

I would suggest several volumes that can provide enlightenment about why some CM1 patients are symptomatic compared to others : Scoliosis and Spinal Pain Syndrome by Prof. Dr. Valentyn Serdyuk , and Chiropractic : The Anatomy and Physiology of SacroOcciptal Technique by Jonathan Howat, DC, DICS. We appreciate the potential association between scoliosis and Chiari, and Dr. Serdyuk provides exquisite detail on the many commonly found anatomical anomalies that co-occur with scoliosis. The most significant finding ( and most common) are small cervical foraminae which can cause restriction in the vertebral arteries - especially when torque in the spinal column and/or Ehlers Danlos type connective tissue differences are present. The book by Jonathan Howat describes in great detail how the function of the musculoskeletal and central nervous systems are reciprocal and interdependent. How does spinal fluid get from the sacral bulb to the brain against gravity? It is an eloquent minute rhythmic motion between the occiput and sacrum - powered by inhalation and exhalation and the specific attachment of the entire dura meningeal system. The sacrum is held in place by ligaments, so falls on the tail bone, pregnancy/ childbirth can all affect the function of the sacrum, which will then affect the occiput. Women have wider, more inherently unstable pelvises. There is also reciprocation between the sphenoid bone and the tailbone, so it the pituitary can also be involved when the sacral/pelvic complex is destabilized and not functioning correctly. The reciprocal function of the pelvic and sacral bones may seem impossible to some, but I think it is important to look carefully at the evolution of vertebrates. It is interesting that years ago Hansasuta, Tubbs, and Oakes published research that found that 3 out of 27 normal cadavers had a filum terminale fused off midline in the sacrum. Can this ultimately contribute to sacral torque? Or torque in the entire dural tube with constriction at the craniocervical area? Oh, I wish someone would do the research.

@@claire5399 ❤️ Please say more. Who are you ? I am a frustrated biologist trying to understand why, why, why, after millions of years of human evolution and upright posture a group of us is having these major health issues - and suffering which is beyond the understanding of people with “ normal” structure.

@@nanallen1 I'm a 65 year old woman w hEDS, who can no longer pick up a piece of paper because the weight is too much. I cut my hair because it was too heavy for my spine to support. Why did I get sick so fast ? Why is it so impossible for a physician to understand that they are telling me I have XY and z, but they are looking at my body as if it is normal. Not a body that is affected so severally that just walking on a uneven surface can cause me to have severe vertigo my entire life. I think I must have just managed to function against the obstacles never realizing until the last few years that I have managed to function only by accomadating my needs myself and only now when I'm trying to get help from physicals who haven't had the education regarding the current status of any of these diseases or syndromes... That there is just no help. I've never been so scared.

@@claire5399 Thank you for commenting. It is also thought that I have a form of EDS. The big problem for me is that my atlas is unstable - and my sacrum / pelvis as well. And I have a small posterior fossa - measured by ( wonderful ! ) neurosurgeon according to the published protocols. I had a CINE MRI and it demonstrated low flow around one side of my lower brain and spinal fluid jets in my cervical canal. No Chiari 1, but Chiari O. Have you had a work up with a Chiari knowledgeable neurosurgeon ? Here are things that helped me : very gentle movement in a pool / 3 times a week, NUCCA Chiropractic ( never any twisting / pulling on neck), acupuncture, traditional osteopath. Energy work - hard to find an expert person, but valuable help from the very special few. Don’t give up. Sending hugs.❤️
