I lead WWII History Expeditions through the Aleutian Islands and one of our stops is to visit a lonely B-24D wreck located 1100 miles southwest of Anchorage along the Aleutian Islands, on an island called Atka.
This lonely Liberator plane wreck, serial number 40-2367, rests quietly where it was skillfully landed on a crisp by Captain John Andrews and Louis Blau on a December evening 82 years ago. It is now a National Historic Landmark. Its extremely remote location means it does not receive many visitors. Fortunately, I have been three times and am excited to share its miraculous story with you.
