In addition to the town quest/overview, I share my decision to replace Sephek (cold-hearted killer) with Ravisin the evil frost druid, but I changed my mind! Instead, Sephek is possessed by the spirit of Ravisin's sister! Way cooler! And I added some special lore-loaded loot for my ranger: two halves of a moonBOW in the sarcophagi in the tomb, each with a ring of suffering. My player instantly got it-- the two elves buried in there were the last of their family line, so the ancestral weapon was broken and buried with them. It has carvings of moon phases, going from new to full at the break, and through trial and error, my party realized they have to unite the halves here on the full moon.

Thanks, Gray! I was pretty proud of it and how they latched onto the idea. After the session, Grace asked, "so was it supposed to be a moonblade and you switched it out?" I replied "it's a secret!" (as we usually do for DM-player convos) and I can't wait to tell her I made it up myself!

@@Jake-mu2zm I think Yes, but the great thing is you can place the date when YOU the DM want to. Some worlds have 2, 3, or more moons, giving the DM a huge range of options. I did this for our elfin ranger, but made it a Storm bow, as it fit with NPCs In our game. Bob give great ideas, run with the ones you like.

A really good Guide today. And I got to watch a Dr squatch commercial, love those. (arm pits to charm pits) I want to thank you again Bob. Especially this time of year when many of us would be with family and friends but instead are locked down for heath and safety. I sit here all alone (with dog, but pouring rain) and your show brings an uplift in an otherwise empty day. Lonelywood is a favorite place of mine to hang out when playing Neverwinter.

Thank you for the kind words! Ya know I totally agree about the being stuck-at-home feeling. I recommend checking out the gameplay videos of this module on Wasd20 live! Good way to spend an evening. In the one I was catching up on today they made a joke about “missing high-fives” and I kinda hit home. But it reminded me that we’re all in this together! :)

Very timely video. My second encounter in one of my current campaigns will be in Lonleywood. I decided to add a bit of flavor by creating a Thieves' Guild constituted entirely of local orphans and street urchins. It will create a bit of off-kilter humor and fly in the face of normal expectations. The local orphans have gotten themselves in some trouble with the evil druid in the forest and Nimsy Huddle enlists the group to find the missing child. This will lead to the encounters with the Banshee, the Mad Moose, and the malevolent druid in due time.

When I read about the story from the termaline inn keeper about the woman who was chased by the wind, I instantly connected it to the banshee in lonelywood. In my head canon she was once an aurilite but betrayed Auril, the winds were sent to kill her. When they did Auril still did not permit her to rest. Forcing her spirit to become a banshee and haunt the wood

You know the hilarious thing that my dm says we did? We broke an elf statue to replace the hand that need to be thrown in and tried to use that as a replacement. It sorta worked. We got the trigger but it was temporary so we will likely return and complete it another way. Our dm told us afterwards that he had run this campaign many times but this was the first time someone thought to try this method if they couldn’t find a hand. Sure, we could have off’d the evil Druid and had a hand that way but all our characters are neutral and very nature based so the likelihood of us doing that if she isn’t being aggressive to us directly was low. We still got to use the trigger because of our ingenuity anyway, even if it was temporary. Got lots of information. Likely we will be heading back and maybe staging a preemptive ambush to eliminate her since our characters already suspect she will awaken more animals. I’m waiting to bring it up another time in a future session as a solution. I already have some plans on utilizing the location. And this may be meta gaming but I kinda want to be able to use that area of the elven tomb as a safe spot for the citizens because… you know, that thing… down the road. If we can at least. So I want it cleared out for this reason too. There is a lot between now and then though so it remains to be seen. I’m having fun so far with my gloomstalker ranger and my party. We are a quirky looking lot since our dm allowed all currently printed races save for ones now considered legacy. Same with all classes and subclasses. We can also opt in for the optional rules. I ended up the most normal as a drow (backstory is that I’m surface born though so no known connection to underdark elves). I love this module so far!

Awesome review/guide! Lonelywood is my favorite among the Ten-Towns and I'm a sucker for elven tombs (plus the chance of getting an Elf Mummy "pet"!)

My party killed the moose but left Ravacin. While the folks got themselves the Ramshackle I plan on keeping waves of smaller awakened beasts at Lonelywood until they either find her in a few days when the half moon opens the door or one of the Selune folks prays to her (and hits DC 10!). Maybe let the other party I have in the same game get a chance to taker her down!

An idea im tossing around is a persuasion check with Ravisin that would be nearly impossible for a character, but a much lower DC for Druids or Clerics of Silvanus. Possibly gaining them as an informative and tempering their fury with 'The Oak Father's Temperance' or something to that effect. Possibly use that to avoid spending gold on say, the Netherese tower guide.

That's a cool idea! I think turning Ravisin into an ally could be awesome, but the Frostmaiden surely wouldn't like that, so there should be some consequences for Ravisin turning her back!

I am considering to keep the murderer and the druid seperate, but make their ice weapons basically a blessing of the Frostmaiden. I only read through the 10 Towns Section so far, but I plan on giving other potential "servants" of the will of the maiden the possibility to wield and conjure ice weapons. That way there are two potential reoccurring villains in the first chapter. Giving a stronger feeling of the might and everpresence, but also the elusiveness that Auril presents. But I want to read ahead a little more before I plan these things further

It's funny that you started with Termalaine and then did Lonelywood - these are the two towns I am debating starting my campaign in next week. (Were you going to do Bremen next??). I like the moose quest, but I feel the druid Ravisin could wipe out a 1st level party quite easily with a strong enough casting of Moonbeam (I didn't even consider after they'd been fighting the moose). That is an interesting take on letting Ravisin get away to become a recurring villain. Not everything has to go by the book, which is a lesson I need to learn.

Haha funny enough my party is probably playing through Bremen next! They have briefly stopped in Bryn Shander and Targos, but they’re now chasing Sephek out onto lake Maer Dualdon! I’m going to have him summon the plesiosaurus (I’m playing it as if he’s possessed by the spirit of Ravisins sister), and once they realize the dino is awakens, they’re definitely going to take that on next. However, next video will be Bryn Shander, because with the timing of the quests, they’ve essentially skipped that one for good now, and I want to cover what I mean in the video!

Hey Bob, I actually considered changing the main villain from Sephek to Ravisin in my own game. Could you elaborate how you would link her to the "Cold-Hearted Killer" starting quest?

Awesome! Very simply, she is the one murdering people who get out of the lotteries. Torrga's Company just doesn't have to be involved. However, I have since gone back on this decision and I'm including both Ravisin and Sephek, with Sephek being possessed by the ghost of Ravisin's sister. And I've tied him/Torrga's Co to the Zhentarim stuff in Targos and the lottery rigging. I have a little more info on this coming in next Wednesday's video

It’s up there. I think rarity varies based on the number of tunes they have. Could be anything from +1 only to +3 with other features

This video seemed pretty much entirely like an ad for your map packs and guides and while I do understand that you've made content and are looking to turn a hobby into a profit, the amount of plugs for random things made the video near-unwatchable and was completely over the top. It literally felt like I was watching a commercial for pretty much half the video.
