No one ever wore a snap-brim trilby better than Frank. The Voice at the very peak of his powers. Utterly superb. He was so good, Amy Winehouse named her debut after him. That's the best tribute of all.
If it was somehow possible to have A 1957, 1967, 1977,and 1987 Sinatra all duet to a song live, it would be the most amazing thing ever. Each decade Sinatra had a different style,...not just look, but in how he sang a song, and sounded.
At least anything other than New York New York, Fly Me to the Moon, My Way or That’s Life is underrated. In total, Sinatra sung around 1,400 or so songs, most people only know 4 or 5.
The first scene from the first episode of The Frank Sinatra Show. He deliberately disappeared in the minutes leading up to the song, appearing with a few seconds to spare. Power games. Strangely, the series also included dramatic mini TV-movies sometimes starring or directed by Frank. In the second episode, airing the week after this, he played a taxi driver with a heart of gold. Hardcore fans should read the 800+ page biography: Sinatra: The Chairman by James Kaplan.
+Hootville Utterly magnificent book. The good, bad and sometimes ugly life of Frank. Up there with Peter Guralnick's biography on Elvis: Last Train To Memphis.
Hootville I will look for that book. I did read a book on his written by his other daughter (yes, Nancy had a brunette haired sister) and it got down and dirty also. But I just love his singing.
I sing primarily Sinatra covers and this is a mucho appreciado post. His stylings I copy like martial artist copies the Sung Fu of a real master. Frank Sinatra is such a master.
Cool backstory to this performance. Frank had 10 minutes before showtime and walks outside to have a smoke. Now 5 minutes til showtime. Where’s frank? They ask. He’s gone. They can’t find him frank went out and took off. 4 minutes. 3 minutes. 2 minutes, now there’s a bit of panic. Where the hell is Frank?! 1 minute and they start to think he’s not coming back. With about 30 seconds til showtime frank finally comes back. 15 seconds, 10. Frank makes his way to the stage and with perfect timing sits down just as time runs out and begins snapping his fingers. With a cheeky grin he starts singing. That is Frank Sinatra! Frank liked to create tension for himself when he needed a boost to really lock in. Though it may have come at the expense ofstress to others, Frank was the star and if that’s what he needed to do that’s what he’d do. Love him or hate him he is the greatest.
Such audacity. This guy is so full of himself; he thinks he's got the world on a string. But he's right. The talent on display here justifies the attitude.
@jasong146 Sinatra wasn't singing as well in '77 and '87 but take "I Get a Kick Out Of You"..'53,63,73,83 and you just might be surprised how well his voice held up!!! It would be fun!
If u really take the lyrics of this song to heart, it’s saying to seek the Lord while He can still be found. Life is short, we never know when it is our time to go. The Lord could have Gabriel blow the trumpet at any time. Please, call upon the Lord Jesus. Accept Him as ur Savior, before it is to late. Hellfire is hot, and eternity separated from the Lord is unbearable.
Sister Rosetta Tharpe may have done the best, most authentic, version of Lonesome Road, but Sinatra's version is certainly not "weak"! That you compare him to Wm Shatner and call him overrated shows you know NOTHING about the actual factual history of 20th Century music. Placed in context, Sinatra is the most influential male singer of all recorded music.
@@robjones2408 Don't worry, I know. It's a reference to Sinatra and Martin singing together and Frank is clicking and for comedic effect he says: "I borrowed this click from Bobby Darrin. Must've gave me the wrong one!"
Wow, this is hilariously weak next to the version by Sister Rosetta Tharpe, recorded 16 year earlier. Compared to Tharpe's version, Sinatra's deadpan is like William Shatner jokingly covering Elton John's Rocket Man. Or Stewie Griffin covering William Shatner covering Elton John.
