Join me and my son as we journey on a Long Cross-Country Flying Experience in the Cherokee Six. We will cover many topics on some of the procedures of my Cross-Country routine. On landing, we also encounter sudden unexpected wind shear and strong gusty crosswinds to make for one of my trickiest landings ever.

Good you take long cross country flights, and with your son! I had a six -269 for 4 years. Longest flight was when I bought it In Detroit, and went home to SE Florida. Second longest was from home to NE Georgia, to Heavens Landing, in the blue ridge mountains. The six is a great plane👍🏻. Sold it (doubled my money) and bought a 1947 v tail bonanza. Selling it soon, and quitting flying after 55 years. For me, the thrill is gone after 40 years airline, and 28,000 hours🥴

Hi David! The Six is a great airplane. It's very roomy and can carry a load but not the fastest. When I need more speed I use the Turbo Saratoga. I have flown that airplane to many locations but the furthest has been when I fly it to Florida from Denver. And yes, the Six will hold its value and appreciate. Mine had almost quadrupled since I got it over a decade ago. Thanks for your comment David 😀

Another nice follow-along flight. You really hit home with me being VFR, and "radio silence", as it were. Now, back in the VFR world, I get in this mild-panicky cycle of, "did I miss a radio call?" when I don't hear any chatter. Then I remember that I'm on my own... 😉 You make such a great point about physiological endurance versus aircraft endurance. It really isn't as important as to how long the aircraft can stay in the air - it's how long YOU can stay in the air. We're in very dry air when we fly, and hydration is a health factor. And, all liquids/drinks other than water will shorten your flight leg even more!

Absolutely EJ 😀 We pack drinks but I don’t drink until about 1.5 hours out to make sure my bladder holds up 😀

Well, KOJC is close to us (1K1/KAAO) but not close enough!!! 4-4.5 hours is because of my bladder!!!! Love flying VFR when sky is clear….so peaceful and quite!

Thanks Matt! I’ve had my Six for over a decade and can’t get rid of it. It’s a great airplane for the family.

The switch tank message. Is that from your GPS or ForeFlight. If ForeFlight, how to you set that up?
@FlyingDirty
@FlyingDirty Год назад
I use that as a secondary just as another reminder but I use a countdown timer. Both of those options are from the Dynon HDX. The GPS also has a fuel feature but it’s just an annunciation and I don’t use it. It’s easy to overlook.

Good to see you and Javier again... The radios were sure quiet!.... That's the best reason to fly VFR. My limit is no more than 3 hours per leg. My bladder and my wife can't go, or not go, however you want to look at it, any longer than that. Thanks for letting us ride along...

It was a welcoming time off those radios 😀. Thanks for riding along my friend!

Nice cross wind landing.
@FlyingDirty
@FlyingDirty Год назад
Hi Chris! The winds were very gusty, lots of wind shear all the way down the runway, and crosswinds gusts between 20-30. Made me work hard for that landing.

Another great one. Have I mentioned how much I love that SIX? If they weren't so damn expensive, I'd probably make one my first and last single.
@FlyingDirty
@FlyingDirty Год назад
Thanks 😊 I was fortunate to have picked one up over a decade ago when the economy was down, airports were virtually empty, and the Six was about 2/3 less expensive than today. A rather nice investment it turned out to be.

@@FlyingDirty Sold my 140 about 15 years ago for $35k and thought I was making a killing (only had about 25k in it). Hopefully the market has another adjustment in the future - these prices are ridiculous. Of course, at the rate they are falling out of the sky - that just makes the ones left more valuable. I think I've seen 4 or 5 ga wrecks in the past 10 days. Summer came early.
@FlyingDirty
@FlyingDirty Год назад
@@PoasLodge Certainly more people are flying and the market also boomed after the pandemic. So it’s typical to see more GA accidents right now. After the pandemic a lot of people went searching for their own air transportation and the Six was at the top of the list. I get brokers desperately touching bases with me about putting mine on the market.

@@FlyingDirty There's a 73 on TAP right now that's only $110k with decent engine time... that's not a bad deal at all. If I had my property here in Costa Rica sold - I'd probably put an offer on that one. Oh well - one day.
@FlyingDirty
@FlyingDirty Год назад
@@PoasLodge nope, That’s not bad at all. Just seriously consider a pre-buy inspection before you buy and make sure all ADs are taken care of, including, the recent wing spar AD. Several folks were trying to sell after failing the inspection. Thanks my friend and let me know if I can help you when you’re ready!
