I cast way way farther then that. I start by holding the fishing rod over my head then I start running from the parking lot all the way to the beach while screaming then I jump onto a small portable trampoline I have set right at the edge of the water then I leap into the air and cast slap the line from 2 different directions and let loose. I have almost hit container ships on a few occasions with the distance I have achieved.

That's nothing, I hunt Grizzly Bears with a stick. I show them a photo of my mother-in-law, and as they run for thier lives, I hold the photo in front of me and beat them in the head with the stick a bunch of times.

I just swing the lead out when at it's furthest away I cast. I have tried these more complicated methods and found I get better distance and there is less risk of snapping or tangling during the cast. My rod is a 13 foot Abu Esprit reel Diawa AG 6.

Great help. I like the lad with the fix spool it works just make sure you have a shock leader and also know when to let the line go. Its practise that makes it work. So start like I am doing hour with a lead casting and then enjoyment in fishing. So you have the best of both worlds.

Good video on casting. As he says at one point, many bass (and other fish) often hit very close to shore, so having two baits out there is a good idea. It does take a lot of practice to get the timing just right on the cast.

I like your videos, I have a quick tip. For the new comers like myself or others if they aren't familiar with the technique they can probably test it out with a stuff animal or something soft tied on the end of the line and practice out in a open space like a park or something. This technique is really AWESOME!

I taught myself to pendulum cast about 25 yrs ago with the multiplier and 13ft rods,,once I was confident I had it sussed I started going to some local fields where Plymouth lads used to cast,,i turned up showed them my progress and they said you got it all right,,i was well chuffed to have the seal of approval,,carried on practicing with them for a few months,,regularly hitting 250 yds,,my best was 267 yds,,its nice to have the option to hit big distances when you need it,,its well worth the time to learn and once you can do it you're all set

The rods are 15 and 16 feet long so apparently a different type of cast is used entirely.I found it strange myself,but you cannot fault the distances reached with these new rods/techniques and of course on the south coast beach scene these guys always tend to feature regularly. Casting is one thing.Catching is another.Don't know the guys you mention,but I used Tony and Chris as they catch a lot of fish.

Never heard of that braid make so cannot comment. Braid will usually cast longer than mono,but can have more problems. Still use a shock leader if you use braid though.

Best angling video EVER. I live at Starr Gate, Blackpool, such an enormous flat beach the longer the cast the better. I use a 12ft rod + multiplier with 15lb braid because I much prefer to lay the line on top of the rod, and while I haven't bought an Akios, just handling one in the shop it felt like a Rolex of a reel. I salute you, Simon .....and for the sensible pricing. I need pendulum lessons! Snaking overhead like Buffalo Bill's whip and I'm going to get caught behind the ear if I persist on my own. The comparison here seems to be 12ft rod+multiplier+pendulum v. 15ft+fixed spool+snap method. So it begs the question, can the two be combined? I have so far shyed away from a 15ft rod because I thought it meant a slower cast, but have you tried a 15/16ft rod + multiplier + Chris' snap cast? Is it feasible or just my imagination running away with me? Cheers, I'm a rear TAFishing apostle.

Nice vid I would have liked to see an off the ground cast though as well, I like off the ground and it's a simple cast to master for beginners as it's not all about the timing like pendulum. Cool stuff though.

@masterbeethoven8209

I do it like that blokes son, but with a bit more of an arc. I've always just used a fixed spool, braided line with a pretty short shock- leader (if your shock leader is too long it slows down the cast as it passes through the eyes) It's also worth doing a small, neat knot like an albright knot, with the tag ends clipped really short. I basically take a small step forwards, kind of bounce the weight so the line goes tight, then you push off with your back foot and twist your hips (like swinging a baseball bat) and whip the weight over your shoulder in an arc. Then just keep the rod tip pointing the direction your lead is flying to reduce any friction from the line with the rod eyes.

This style of fishing truly look's like a lot of fun. How long would it take for an average fisherman to not master, but to become successful using this type of of long distance fishing? What is the average cost for a descent rig set-up? Again looks like a challenging way of fishing. I take it by this video that this skill has been passed down to each generation. Soo great to watch, and thank's for sharing.

Fantastic video, for me one of the most helpful yet. I had one of the wooden reels with a 6 foot cane boar rod I used off Gorleston pier as a kid. The pier was wooden then. Anyway I've hardly got started with this hobby and you made me want a 16 footer. I hope the cameraman got danger money! I might need it to if I tell the misses I want another rod.

Only if you have a deep spool, then back it up with cheaper mono.Most new beach reels now have a second shallow spool just for braid, for finer diameter lines.

No, when you are actually fishing you would use an end rig and clip the baits down. For trying to show the basic casting we just had a lead on, just like on a casting tournament field. Worm baits are streamlined and whistle out OK,but bulky baits mackerel/squid etc will cut your distance down.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
There were two rods,the cheaper was the Penn.But you need to contact Tony's Tackle and speak to Tony as there are several options of the reels,some quite cheap.Check him out on your search engine.He's in Eastbourne,Sussex

Hi Graeme, I've just changed from multipliers and 13ft 6in beachcasters to the 4.5m (14ft 9in) continental rods, fixed spool reels and braid line with a mono shockleader, I love them, mine are rated to cast 100-200g, but I have another pair on the way rated 100-250. I've only been using them for a month and my best fish so far has been a 5lb huss, it was an awesome fight on rod, especially with braid.

Good info, but I don't use shock leader when going for flathead and blue cats in the Ohio River. I spool up with 40 lb Berkley Trilene Big Game line. Low price, dependable line. 60 pound catfish are very difficult to turn in a river current with lighter line. I have no problem throwing 125 yards to the main channel with a Penn #140 Squidder, on a Shakespeare 10 ft Tidewater surf rod. A 375 foot cast is all I ever need.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing 11 лет назад
It's not really a rod for pendulum casting, it is more for the use of over head casting. It can still cast over 250 yards with the fixed spool.
@davidharvey5672
@davidharvey5672 9 лет назад
I've been basing my cast on 180 degree body turn and it's been going off to my right. Looking at these, Tony is turning closer to 270 which would account for the error in my cast.

One thing to mention, putting the power on slowly in the start and increasing the power at the end, to the max seems to be the way to go. Too much power in the start will hurt the cast and send it to the right, for right hand casters.

Love the look of the method demonstrated by Chris and will be giving it a go. Quick question Chris, how long should the shock leader be on a 15ft rod and what knot do you use to attach it to the braid (including how many turns)? I've been trying the albright knot but 10 turns doesnt seem to hold and more makes it bulky. Many thanks in advance.

the spot I fish has a drop off at about 80 yards so if you can't cast far enough you won't put the bait in a prime position close enough for the fish! it's all about placing the bait where there's fish and this can be a tool to help you do that!😎

@masterbeethoven8209

I think it's because the beach slopes towards the water, so you have a height advantage if you stand back a few meters. I always seem to cast way further when i'm above the water level. Higher up = more time for the lead to travel through the air.
@metaljacket2707
@metaljacket2707 9 лет назад
I've tried Both and found the 2nd set up way more efficient when fishing the first has way too many issues with bird nesting the second much easier, Def need a glove on the right hand and recommend making sure the shock leader knot TAG ends are cut short. Else they hand up in the eyelets and cause break offs.

I guess there must be a difference between height/close to the water.All I notice is the long casters,even off a pier ,like the highest elevation to cast from. For me I prefer being closer to the water's edge.There must be a distance where the higher launch point makes no difference and can actually work against you,but I don't now what it is. I think the fact they often use the pendulum cast is the reason they don't like any slope behind them or the lead might clip the ground.

Not sure what you mean but if you put the rod butt under your armpit then extend your arm where your hand grips is where the reel seat should go.That's a standard way of where to put a winch fitting. Or take it into a tackle shop and they would show you.

sad to say this type of casting is not possible here in our area since a lot of swinging of lead is needed. We usually do surf cast on a spinning reel with 15 lbs. braid on a 4.5m rod and we are still able to cast 110 to 130 meters. Good video though..thanks for the useful tips..

This is a medium action rod, right? is it the best choice for casting?

You need to check with your tackle dealer.No good getting a powerful rod if you cannot get the best from it. I have a rigid butt that I can put on one of my Conoflex rods and its primarily for pendulum casting,but I can't get on with it,so I use the standard composite butt which is a bit more forgiving.

you never see anyone a casting with lead and a bottom rig or anything all loaded up !!do you lose your bait in the air flying at light speed ?

True, I limit my muscle on Ohio River bait casting for monster cats. I lose my bait on fancy casting technique. 100 yards is good for big river main channel.
