Attilio, I trayed to go for a 2 minute exposure. On a river with a mountain in the back ground in the after noon at 16 stops and a CPL filter. The long Exposure calculator was for 2 minuets off the phone app. The river got washed out. So there was no data to retrieve any information! What am I missing? I have little problems with a 10 stop at 30 seconds. I will post 2 picture from 5-2-21 on Facebook. Also, when I get out again I will post a new set! In one of your future training video you might want to go over how to setup the (Intervalometer) remote timer. I think I using it correctly! Stay well John 📸

Thanks for the clear explanation. I've been doing long exposures for some time now. I don't like the square filter system since I tend to screw on & off the adapter ring each time because I also like to use the sunhood once in a while. Keeping the ring on makes the lens more fragile when it is bumped in the bag. The main question I have is how to keep the filters clean and most of all dust-free ?

We’ll talk about that...

Thanks Attilio for this beautiful start to your course. I've been looking forward to it. I have a question about filters, as a hobbyist and mainly a travel photo addict, I don't put much money into filters. Anyway, The ones I bought are all circular screw on filters with adapter rings. Obviously all pros use the square ones. But, imagine I find exactly the same quality and material in the circular ones, would you still say that the square ones have advantages in terms of image quality? Thanks! ciao Attilio, take care, see you next week.
@AttilioRuffo
@AttilioRuffo 3 года назад
Ciao Francesca! The biggest advantage of square filters is the possibility to stack them without vignettes and to use graduated filters...circular system still have good quality and they are also much lighter to carry... ciao!

I used NISI filters when they first came on the market when they where a lot less expensive and found them to be as good if not better than some of the other premium brands but over the past few years the price of them has skyrocketed so I've started using Haida 150mm nano pro square filters when I got my Nikon 14-24mm f2.8 and I've found them to be as good as NISI with no colour cast but at a 25-30% lower cost.

Hi I am searching for good and affordable ND filters. I bought a circular ND filter from Amazon and now I'm returning it. It is a 10 stop Nd filter but when you reach stop 8 and approach the max, the angles will become darker and if you rotate versus the max a black cross appears. Short story long, I'll go for rectangular filters but I don't want to try then send back to Amazon. I would like to know the most affordable rectangular ones that do work without issues. Hence my question, does any of you know of an affordable ND filter I can buy? Thanks
@mostlymessingabout
@mostlymessingabout 9 месяцев назад
@@Ihab.Aall variable ND filters have X issue. It's physic. More expensive ones just hide it by limiting the angles of rotation

perhaps it's not "intuitive", but, the longer the exposure time, the less effect that one gets from something like 'mirror slap', or a tiny movement at shutter release...

I love your examples, especially those that are simple and uncluttered. I think it takes skill to ensure the flat or smooth waters do not compete with the real subject in the image, such as the red chairs or golden tree. If your eye goes immediately to the smooth waters, it reduces the impact of the image. Great set of lessons. I look forward to the rest of the series!

I usually always take my 20mm and the 50mm, with those 2 lenses I do most of my shots... I just decide if taking the 70-200... and if I don’t have i just search for different compositions

@@AttilioRuffo Thank you! Take a look into Case Magnetic filters. I have the Lee SW150 system but it was too big and bulky to bring along all the time. Case is nice and simple and quick to use.

need a bit of advise on how to choose a filter system ,, what factors should be considered, since these filter systems are way too expensive.

Question Attilio.. you ask for 2 photos, one with, one without a filter. Is this to show the scene before long exposure or to see if we can emulate the settings without the use of a filter..? Also, do you want photo one to be a 30 second exposure as well as photo 2 (with the filter)? Can I thank you for this assignment, my friend directed me to this, and is using it to try and get me back out with my camera. It's the first thing to get me excited again, and one that will actually motivate me out of my low mood into real world action again!!

Yes the first shot is just to show the before without using filters

Looking forward to the course. I picked up my DSLR for the first time since last summer and went for a hike this week. Itching to get back into learning long exposure.

Hi Attilio: Thank you for creating and sharing this video. I love LEP so I am excited to participate in this course. One technique that I use to reduce camera shake to have metal spikes on my tripod and press the tripod firmly into the surface. That will help to control shake and particularly when I move back from my camera it helps to avoid/minimize ground shake. I also had to buy a new T-Shirt to go along with my involvement in the course. L.O.L. Cheers, Keith
