Another complete and useful demonstration of the process of long exposure. Appreciate the reminder take time, enjoy the experience and then take the photograph. Look forward to number 3..
Being only new to long exposure photography, and not necessarily a fan, you perhaps are converting me. Ive only recently bought a NISI ND-VARIO 1-5 Stops mainly for video which it seems will not be enough stops for long exposure still photography, but living on the coast of Australia I will give it a go anyway. I will experiment adding a CPL filter and maybe my cheap Newer filters but not hopeful. I love your enthusiasm and explanations. A new subscriber.
Attilio is back baby! All is right with the world! And even though I didn’t win this challenge it was so exciting to see my picture on your video @mikehead and a huge thanks for giving me the tools and confidence on getting out there to take pictures and to try to keep improving my skills.
I appreciate your use of a more monochrome environment here - many of your shots are so colorful. This simplifies the topic at hand and let's people focus on the important elements added (or not) by using long exposure. Also, not as much post-processing enhancement "required". Very nice.
Thanks for doing this series - I very much appreciate them. I'm learning a lot with each episode. Right now circumstances make traveling in my state in Australia...difficult. We were in (virus-induced) lockdown for several weeks, then had severe storms which resulted in me driving to a location only to find a "road closed" sign when I got there. Grrr. But...the great thing about your clips is that they're so very worthwhile, and once I'm properly mobile again, I can just re-watch them and then follow your exercises.
Olympus can make long exposure easy with a 60 second exposure in aperture priorities or LIVE TIME allowing you to see the exposure and histogram build over time. You then stop when histogram is far enough to the right. Perhaps too easy
Good day Attilio. I love your videos and love how you are able to explain in detail what we are learning. I just bought a ND filter 10 stop and went out the other day to try it and wow. I'm leaving next Tuesday to England where I'll be taking a cruise to Ireland, Scotland & Iceland. I hope to be able to use it there.
Again a great video 👍 Now I've been watching your videos on RU-vid for so long and today I hear for the first time that you have a group on Facebook. Now I'm also a member of your group on Facebook. Take care of you, Best regards from Germany
As the first tutorial video on lep: great video, great topic, great...and last but not least: it is all inspirational. Thanks for the inside information and your enthusiasm.
Great video again Attilio. What do you think about taking multiple long exposures, then combining those in Photoshop? E.g. a 5+3+10' would give your the flexibility in post processing for an equivalent of any of 3, 5, 8, 10, 13, 15, 18 minutes by combining them. The reason I ask is I got a good result by combining two 4' exposures in order to eliminate noise. Fuji cameras have terrible snow when doing multi minute exposures, unless you use the LENR function or the above technique.
Great tutorial Attilio. I like better the photos with the10 stops and 6 stops ND filters, as I prefer to retain some texture in the water that shows the movement and in some cases the direction of the movement. Grazie! for sharing this very illustrative video.
@@AttilioRuffo Ho fatto delle prove Regge bene nella gamma -3 fino -7 stops, dopo, per me, non è il massimo, My 8-2000 (3-11 stops) I find it works well between -3 and -7 stops, not so well over -7stops. Thanks again :)
Complimenti per i video e i consigli. Inoltre per gli utenti di lingua italiana i tuoi video hanno il valore aggiunto di un ottimo ripasso della lingua inglese, che non guasta mai. 😉
Excellent video very informitive and well explained I wish to try this at one point only have a polariser 1 10 stop hopefully I can invest soon thank you
Hi Attilio I have watched this episode many times but when I go out and use long exposure all my results from the water are very blue, what am I doing wrong Cheers Willi
I've used both circular and square ND filters. However, when using a zoom lens, I have a problem a problem with the zoom setting changing while I'm attaching the circular filters. Any suggestions?
Ciao Attilio, avresti dei libri di fotografia da consigliare? Soprattutto di fotografi che utilizzano molto le lunghe esposizioni? Potresti farci anche un video 😎😂 grazie Andrea
I have to say that I am still in shock. Thank you so much for picking my photo as the winner and I would like to say that everyone else submitted amazing photos, too. I am looking forward to seeing more great photos from everyone!!
When in the frame there trees with leaves, how do you deal with them? Do you get rid of them, take them blurred or you shoot 2 pictures and then stack them in post production? Thanks, Fabrizio
Just watched the video while lying in bed only to find mine was selected to show. I was so excited I woke my wife up to show her. We watched the video together and now she is asking where we are going for the next assignment. 😍😍😍. Thanks Attilio for another great video. Personally We loved the ND6 version the most due to the slight increase in colour over the others.
Hi Attilio, Thank you for your hard work and for making these videos. Is using live view when doing the initial exposure (no filters) good? How do long exposures wear on the sensor? If you are using live view and making long exposures (300 sec to 700 sec), what advice do you have about batteries? Finally, do you ever use focus stacking with normal (50-70mm lenses) or is that just not practical with the fast-changing light? Appreciate the help.
That is the best advice ever, get to your destination early especially in Italy! The food is amazing, the towns are amazing, the people are friendly. Check out your spot you like, have some focaccia and a negroni :) I did this in Volterra and had so much fun, I forgot to take my photo on time. Such a beautiful photo you created in the Cinque Terre, thank you for the great lessons.
Thank you so much for sharing your valuable experience with us. I started studying your videos about long exposure a few days before, and I am excited to start shooting long exposure during the day. Until now I was shooting primarily Milkyway and Startrails, but daytime long exposure photography is a new photography world to me. By the way NISI is discontinuing their ND calculator app (for android at least). I am thinking to buy soon a square ND filter set from K&F to start my long exposure adventure!
ND100K is the best to use when doing long exposure imo otherwise it's not even worth doing a "long exposure". Anything longer than 2 minutes is also way too long. I've spent an entire afternoon figuring out what looks best but I was doing it on a bright day.
Thanks Attilio, Montana USA native here. I have been looking for this video for years, hoping to find someone who would share his time to teach me this method. I have no ND filters yet and just purchased my first pro tripod. I will let you know if I get the chance to try a long exposure landscape in my future. Thanks again for your great video. Robert
Screw-in ND 100 filters will always change the previously set focus and this is their biggest disadvantage. Be sure to hold the lens barrel when screwing it in.
Hi Attilio super duper photos. The last one was a "paintography".what app do you use for ND filter calculator and to set the remote cable to 11min.?thanks
I really like the 20 second photo. Your videos are very inspiring, now I want to go out with my camera :) My Fuji X-H1 could automatically choose the long exposure times in A mode - my Nikon Z6 can only do 30 seconds max without remote shutter :( Not sure if they improved that in the Z6II already. I'm searching for a new filter kit at the moment. Not so easy to find one for the Z 14-30 lens because you have to buy larger filters when you want to stack 2 or more :D Probably go with Kase round magnetic filter system - 95mm.
Τhere was a sun eclipse visible in Greece in the beginning of summer. I don t remember the year, was it 1999,.was it 2001? At this day I was travelling with my family on vacation to a Greek island in the Ionian Sea, named Lefkada. I wanted to take pictures of the sun with my NIKON F3 during the eclipse...So I bought 4-5 nd filters at the time....And I was thinking...oh my God, what a waste of money....I throw away money for filters that I will use only once AND NEVER AGAIN IN MY LIFE!! I don' t know now where they are, maybe I threw them away...WHAT AN IDIOT I WAS....hahahahaha
Just caught up with this, great explanation. Really enjoy your channel, moving in LE more and more, but unfortunately I live hours away from the coast. Need to find some rivers this Autumn
Great video. Thank you. The last photo was definitely beautiful, however the first filter you used was also very nice in a different way. The water was still angry, but it was very painterly.
Hi Attilio! A wonderful course with great photos and inspiration. But what about hotpixel topic in LEP? My first try was a star sky photography and I got a lot of hotpixels at my sensor after only 20 Seconds - dont they appear in daylight LEP? The sensor will get heated here as well? Thanks for a short expert note 😀
Thanks for sharing ! I have got some filters and I guess stacking an ND1000 and an ND32 will also give me 15 stops but I have to zomm in a bit to prevent vignetting. Now all I need is the right scenery...
