I lived in Bermondsey from 87 to 92. The old wharfs with lovely spice smells. All went to make way for hugely expensive flats. Jamaica Road separated by income and desire. I earned well, so not affected. But a shame to see Shad Thames etc all disappear so quickly and ruthlessly. My neighbours used to go hop picking in Kent in Summer. A throwback to their families. I wonder what they think about now.

I had a girlfriend living in Jamaica Rd in 1994. I could leave her flat at 6am and get to work in Rushden Northants in 60mins. No speed cameras then. Clocked 60 over Tower Bridge once. And you tell young kids today and they don’t believe you! 😂

One of my top 5. One of those films, that: a) I know the script almost as well as the actors. b) No matter how many times I see it I never tire of it. c) If I stumble over it while channel hopping, I watch it to the end. d) I believe it is a classic that didn't get the success it deserved, because it didn't spawn from Hollywood* *Handmade Films was a 1978 collaboration by former Beatle - George Harrison [who during its history mortgaged his house to finance the companies productions] and business partner at that time Denis O'Brien.

That's not the Thames, it's one of the three stretch's of water that make up the West India Docks. The Canary Wharf skyscrapers now occupy the site where those warehouses are.

Really interesting to see London's Docklands how they were back then! Love the Cortina as well. A classic movie! As for the 1988 Olympic Stadium part, they were miles off . . . and the dialogue that followed about who would be doing long jump wouldn't be allowed today!

Saying a Transsexual will be doing the F ing long jump down here in 1988 & then laughing about it made me wish as the only black man in the cinema that the cinema seat i was sat in complete with brass ashtray would open up and swallow me in side, sadley i lost my empathy towards him when he used the T WORD

Yep - She played the daughter of the security guard who was nailed to the floor by the robbers who stole the explosives. Loads of the cast who were relative unknowns went on to stardom in their own right. Cast Bob Hoskins as Harold Shand Helen Mirren as Victoria Bryan Marshall as Harris Derek Thompson as Jeff Eddie Constantine as Charlie Dave King as Parky P. H. Moriarty as Razors Paul Freeman as Colin Stephen Davies as Tony Brian Hall as Alan Paul Barber as Errol the Ponce Pauline Melville as Dora Nigel Humphreys as Dave Karl Howman as David Gillian Taylforth as Sherry⬅ Dexter Fletcher as Kid Pierce Brosnan as IRA man Daragh O'Malley as IRA man Kevin McNally as Irish youth

The landscape of London the best bit really good character actors. But Harry Shand was no Carlo Gambino or Chin Gigante. Harry was surprised he gained entry to the swanky West End. Others would have the business acumen, to buy first, take the money and sell. Helen Mirrens character was the adult in the room. Ice cold, business, and fools and turncoat dealt with without fuss.
