Andrew took us over to Long Machine Tool, a machine tool dealer in Ferris Texas. He's got a warehouse full of machines and machine tooling! It's a great place to explore and purchase some tooling from. I really enjoyed walking around and seeing everything he's got there.

That old steel has such a history behind it, the thousands of hours of work done on them and all the parts they made. Fascinating stuff.

Paul Draine he doesn’t have a website all word of mouth - he does have a RU-vid channel under “Ray Long” You can google long machine for his number !
@Stopes.

Yeah dude needs to hire an assistant to catalogue everything, photograph, and run an online inventory. Quadruple his sales. And then, he needs to hire a camera guy to record his job for a RU-vid channel. He probably sees a lot of rare stuff. When he buys, transports, etc. Extra income stream. Just show him somebody like Adam’s RU-vid channel and what it brings in monthly and that’s enough motivation just to have a camera around.

I ran a radial drill 6 foot arm back in the 80’s a Colman and a Bickford a very versatile machine, and a Burgmaster. In fact I ran just about everything in this video at one time or another in my 45 years as a machinist

Very cool Video ! They have a lot of stuff crammed into that warehouse ! Well that train going by explains the Track Anvils ! A lot of times if you can find where the railroad workers enter and exit the tracks to work on them you can find cut offs of tracks laying around I worked for over 25 years in a Shop that had tracks running right next to it and we used to check those areas often to see what. Kind of goodies the guys left behind whenever they were out doing the repairs

Your eyes are bigger than your shop can hold. You really need a bigger shop. Time to buy a 20 acre farm and put in a 60x80 shop. Then you can get all the machines you want. Put in a bridge crane like Brian's and you would be all set. Great tour to make everyone envious. Thanks for sharing and Merry Christmas.

Warner Swasey Saddle Turret lathes are pretty massive. Ran a 2A. Also ran 3 big Radial Drills. They usually sit dormant more than any other machine. Ran a huge American engine lathe that had leather belts with splice going click, click, click. Cincinnati Mill, Burgmaster, Orbital Grinder. Favorite lathe: South Bend 17" Tornado. Had everything, taper attachment, DoAll grinder, B & L digital readout, steady and follower rest, 3 & 4 jaw chucks, loved it. Made lots of parts, Ever make left hand double pitch square thread lead screws with matching bronze nuts ? I have. They go from too tight to loose and sloppy with a .002 pass. Takes lots of patience. Good times. Those machines had quirks that gave them character. Most conform to orders of the war production board. (WWII). Also they love to work. Once you know them, feel them, hear their rhythm, and learn to love and respect them, they will respond. Shaft turning 3/4 chips shaped like the number six, .020 thick, popping like corn. Plunge cutting v-groove pully sheaves with 4" or more of profile tool surface, huge coolant hoses burning 50 gallons a shift. Hard, hot, grimy, humid, noisy work.....

Imagine having a restoration business for old equipment like that. Walk in, pick the biggest gnarliest piece of specialty equipment in that place, truck it back to your workshop, and do a complete tear down and restoration of the machine while creating a series of RU-vid videos showing every step. Clean it, repair broken parts, fabricate replacements, strip and repaint the housings, replace the bearings, scrape the ways, tram and align everything, replace the wiring, replace or restore the motors and oilers, add DROs, and run it through full calibration and certification. Auction it off, then come back here and get the next one.
