I have a friend who used this song in a campaign he's DMing. One of the party members was a Tiefling Warlock (Fiend Pact), who was previously a servant of the BBEG. She was injured in a fight with another of the BBEG's Lieutenants, and had amnesia. Her patron was not happy with the change of heart, and constantly screwed with her throughout the campaign, at one point even taking control of her and unleashing his full power upon a village, and the soldiers from the players faction that were defending it. Eventually, things came to a breaking point for the character. She was a good person now. She was sick of her patron using her to cause misery and destruction, but if she broke her pact then she'd be useless to the party. Her mind was on the verge of breaking. Then this song began to play, and he arrived: The Lord of Carnivals He was introduced as an upstart Demon Lord who'd already beaten the snot out of some other demons and broken off pieces of their realms to form his own. It was filled with the souls of minor sinners, people who did bad things because their life had been hard, not because they were evil, and his realm was described as an infernal carnival. Player: "What does he look like?" DM: "A literal and figurative peacock." Everyone recognized who it was, and no one asked any questions. I think some of them may have cried afterwards, because the session ended with the Warlock making a a new pact with the Lord of Carnivals.

Two years later: “I lived, bitch.”

I just love how something Molly said post threesome is now this heartfelt emotional phrase that he’s remembered by.

The ending is perfectly fitting - it ends somewhat abruptly, going from upbeat and quick-paced to somber and slower and slower. It's as if a great ballad stopped halfway through - as it happened with the ballad of Mollymauk Tealeaf. Long may he reign, wherever he is

I found Molly’s death oddly thematic. He always said he didn't care what happened before he awoke, that it didn't matter yet of course the plot would catch up and he’d be forced to face it. But he didn't, he lived the way he died, giving the finger to his past and what mysteries they may hold, and burning like a firework. Brilliant and all to fast

A good friend of mine died last year. She loved CR and was there for me when Molly died. Listening to this song brings to me my fondest memories of her and all the things she loved. And as someone below said: "One is not dead while it's name is still spoken." Long may you reign, Campioto.

I can hear perfectly why this is Molly's theme. It's holds an air of pageantry and showmanship and yet gentleness and reserve and somehow mystique and hidden power. Very well done and very Mollymauk

You did it... you really did it, you beautiful bastard... This is absolutely legendary, wonderfully paying tribute to all the different aspects of Molly's personality - the friend, the trickster, the fighter, the circusman... the man with no past and no future. And you took my suggestion for the title! I'm speechless and incredibly thankful for everything you do for the Critter Community, Rise!

Episode 140 just ended. The Campaign is coming to a close soon, and after the events of this last session not twenty minutes ago, I feel we need another version of this that's triumphant and fitting for the occasion.

Felt the need to come back here after the most resent session.

Never before have I connected to a character so much nor has a character helped me discover who I was as a person more than Molly. He had aspects of myself and those I loved within him that I latched onto all the while he was his own. He brought so many smiles to my face and laughter to my lips. I remember waiting in line for Taliesin to sign a piece of fan art I bought of Molly while I was buzzing with prospects of his future. But, now that won't happen. He was ripped away too soon. As much as I love Clay and hold him close to my heart, no one will hold a more dear place than this chaotic and loveable tiefling. A scoundrel he may have been at times, he was kinder to a world that may not have deserved it. And now, the world is a little less colorful and a little more dark without him. But, let not his legacy be of his death but of his joy. His kindness, his eccentricities and his colorful brightness. Let us remember a person who taught us to care for ourselves and others. A person who showed us we can be loud and proud and sly and understanding. A person who always found the light and life within the people he met everywhere he went and made every place a little bit better than when he found it. Here's to Mollymauk Tealeaf. A devil. A fighter. A friend. Shine bright, circus man. Long may you reign.

Now I want a dark reprise version for "Lucien"...

[Spoilers ep26 c2] This is honestly amazing. It fits Molly so well - I can’t think of any theme that would fit him better. It reflects not only his past and present, but also his beginning and end. You have truly mastered this. You also seemed to - maybe unintentionally, maybe not - have seperated the song in a way that tells his story. 0:00 - 0:44 This sounds like a lullaby. He is waking up from the dirt, from what should have been permanent sleep, and drifting into consciousness for the first time that Molly (not Lucien) awoke. And it is honestly done so beautifully. 0:44 - 1:08 Molly waking up, discovering the world with a strange ability to comprehend and missing his memory. 1:08 - 1:17 Molly said that for a week he was only able to say ‘empty’ (I think that was the word?) and he was mostly likely thinking about his past (or lack of thereof) This sullen, dark, yet oddly dreamlike and beautiful tune fits that so well. 1:17 - 2:13 This suits the Molly and the circus incredibly well. It is so complex, yet done perfectly. The transition from the lullaby was executed flawlessly too. 2:13 - 2:40 Transitioning from the circus to the Mighty Nein where he meets his new friends. 2:40 - 3:23 These new friends become his life - basically all he has ever known. (btw, I never hear about how the Mighty Nein was basically ALL Mollymauk knew, but it a key to how he acted an I think it is really important to his character overall. It is why he was SO mad when he realised Jester, Fjord and Yasha got taken by slaves, and also why he notices things about everyone such as how they act when others don't) You demonstrated this amazingly. 3:23 - 4:08 This abrupt intensity reminds me of how Molly was suddenly taking things seriously when his friends got taken. The theme sounds genuinely intimidating - a throw back to Lucien, if you will - just as Molly was. 4:08 - 4:26 This captures Molly’s emotions perfectly. I am honestly speechless at how to describe how amazing this section of the song is. He is truly fighting for his friends, not himself. 4:26 - 4:40 It reminds me of a theme-park machine breaking down, for lack of a better term, that one long hovering note that indicates Molly being ‘broken’ or dead. It sounds mournful, it has this vibe of a circus (or something of the likes) closing down and packing away. It is done so beautifully and artistically though, the abrupt change as sudden as his death. 4:40 - 5:12 Okay. I genuinely SCREAMED when I first heard this. I may have been in awe before, but THE RETURN OF THE LULLABY MADE ME SOB. I actually started crying. Mollymauk was first conscious in the dirt, and in the dirt he ended, in his grave. Oh my. The soft yet now sorrowful tune of the lullaby… wow… You have my respect. Long may He reign.

To be honest. I think we can all learn...something from Molly. He attempted to leave people smiling more in a town when he left. Even with his deceit. He lived life to the fullest. Because there he was, and who knew how long it'd last. The same can be applied to us all. We are here now. And lord only knows how long that will last. We all love you Molly. Long May He Reign.

The music represents Molly so well! I almost started to cry, and when all the cards slowly stopped rotating and the only card left face up was the moon, the fucking moon. I was speechless. The art? Amazing. The music? Amazing. The hearbreaking references? Amazing. Long may he reign. Mollymauk Tealeaf.

As someone just coming into Critical Role, the impact Molly had on a fandom in 26 measly episodes out of like 300 is just mind boggling. It’s so obvious he’s just such a flawlessly built character. I feel bad for Caduceus, he’s just sooo overshadowed

This is masterfully done. True to his nature. I could easily see Mollymauk dancing along and leading a band of misfits to the big top in the stars while a troup played this tune.

Mollymauk was the one who taught me that I could be who I wanted, regardless of what other people may think. For that, molly will always hold a special place in my heart. From the first time I listened to this, I thought you had captured Molly's Musical Essence perfecty. After last episode, ep140, I realize how much more right I was than I thought. Beautiful. Long May He Reign. I was kind of expecting a more sinister undertone at points due to his blood hunter heritage but I love the angle you went on this! Eyes wide open, eyes never shut!

That eye card flying around has a lot more meaning to it now.

Just watched episode 111 Spoilers... This music sums up so much! I always knew there was more too it but god damn! Matt!!!!!!

This is my favorite piece you've done. I get a hankering to listen to it every few months. The buildup, the conclusion, it's all just brilliant. The ending gives me goosebumps everytime.

Hold up now. So those cards are his actual cards he pulled, right? Because I'm getting serious vibes that Molly isn't ( note: not "wasn't"; I'm sure his role isn't over yet, and will be critical to the story) just some random player character. Serpent, Dragon, Eye, Moon, Shadow, Chariot, and Anvil? Aren't those all directly tied to the core narrative with the Elder Patron Gods going on? The moon ties in with Jester/ the Traveller; but it also ties in with Fjord and his patron of the sea. So does the eye and serpent, since they directly point to the three sleeping old gods. Dragon seems to fit Bahamut and his role is one of balance; as his tenants run opposite of pretty much every key patron of the Nein, while Chariot points to labors and a needed journey (possibly representing the other members of the Nein caught up in this current). Shadow ties in with Yasha and her darker past, as well as Molly himself obscuring the truth with deception and subtlety. Anvil can mean temperance, a time to grow and forge a new destiny with willpower. A hammer striking an anvil is akin to thunder and lightning (sparks and sounds), so there's the stormlord. A massive shadow also looms over the group and their lives too. Interesting...

Long may he reign! An awesome tribute to one of the most unexpected moral compasses I ever came across. As much as I love Clay and Beau´s character development due to his death, I still miss our fabulous circus man.

It started off almost slow and melancholic and oh my god it became beautiful. The transitions between the different styles are so amazing, this whole thing is breath taking!!

up until the drums started about three-quarters in, the mischievous edge is always there. i really love it.

SPOILERS HERE. Just discussing the subject of Mollymauk and this song. So I just got to Mollymauk's death last night. I had heard this song before I got there, and I was absolutely shocked at the fact that he was outright dead. Put me on the verge of tears. However, when they are standing around his grave and say "Long may he reign", that broke me. I just silently sobbed, paused the episode, went over here, and started playing his theme. Well done on making a theme that encapsulates Molly's story.

This song now brings me a whole new kind of sadness ;w;

Guess it's time for a new theme, for a newly found king

There once was a Tiefling named Molly, Who always made everyone jolly, There was no one greater, He died by a slaver, And now we are all melancholy. (A limerick someone in the CR comments wrote for Molly, it was lost with the new upload. But no longer is it lost.)

I feel like until 1:18 the slow music represents his time as Lucien, but when the music changes pace it represents himself as Molly, the flamboyant, shiny purple tiefling we love. From 1:18 to 2:41 could be him "remaking" himself during those years he spent at the Carnival. From 2:41 until it stops could be his time with the Nein, full of life and adventure. Somewhere between there there's a part with drums which could mean challenges. 4:08 could be the battle in Glory Run Road. In 4:26 the music slows and returns to the melody from the beginning, that could be where he's knocked unconscious And Lorenzo is killing him. And at 4:39 the music slows again, it's the moment that Lorenzo finally twists the glaive and kills him. That's how I interpret it

once upon a time, i left a comment that if molly were to ever return, you should revisit this song, and make that second triumphant part, we all talk about how the theme abruptly ends, fitting as it is mollys theme, but maybe now, we can finally hear that second half,

I was in the middle of the episode 111 on thursday and went on my weekend without sopilers, and had an ich for this song, and listened for all weekend and just this morning I finished the ep and ooh I understand now why i wanted to listen to this. LONG MAY HE KEEP REIGNING!!!

I have been listening to this masterpiece for quite some time now. Still miss Molly. He was such an interesting character. Now, listening to this after watching the episode 111 gives me chills. Thank you!
