Going beyond point-and-shoot distances? You better know what you're doing. But before arithmetic and calculations come into the equation, what can you do to set yourself up for success? Josh teams up with Adrian Leatherman, a former US Army Sniper who now runs Sidewinder Concepts, to work on some long-range basics. Why is this important for civilians to know? Much of the fundamentals of shooting long-range are transferable to short-range and it never hurts to have this skill set in your back pocket for... potentially hard times ahead.

I've always thought there were three ranges of engagement. 1. CQB or pistol round range i.e. 0-50m. CQB is range that might quickly turn into H2H. 2. Carbine range 50-300m. Running and gunning with potential for BOTH shooting on feet, knees, squatting, barriers. 3. Rifle range or prone with scope and bipod, etc. A range that requires more aim and less running.....until the enemy gets close enough and you had better run fast and shoot straight.

Best way to learn how long distance work that I’ve experienced is signing up for WPS and going through Cleckner’s long range courses. First time I shot past 200yds was at 1300 and I had a first round impact just because I learned from that online course. It was eye opening and empowering

Magnificent coaching shown here in this video. Of course in long range high power rifle competition the shooter is not expecting anything from the spotter/score keeper. But for sure if the spotter can discern first round impact then the shooter has a call/strike corollary which is paramount to shooter/target analysis and such analysis will allow for better results for work in progress. In other words, the score keeper can help the shooter get on target in conditions that are not at first understood by the shooter.

Shooting at distance isn't complicated. It does require mastery of marksmanship fundamentals and DOPE. Most often, finding a location to collect that DOPE is the major limitation. Go find a Highpower club near you and make friends.
@teampyle9835
@teampyle9835 11 месяцев назад
Longe range shooting is very satisfying, but the data collection process is tedious. You have to be thorough and consistent. You cant expect your "DOPE" from one range trip to be enough to go off of. The environmental conditions change day to day and therefore you POI will change to. Learning it all is a hell of a rabbit hole and if you dont take the time to learn the effects of the environmentals you will be chasing your tail at further distances. Edit: you dont need a Chronograph or a kestrel. Yes it will help a ton but if you dont understand why the ballistic computer says to dial 5.9 mils then what are you going to do when your batteries die?

Although modern sniper rifles with interchangeable barrels, bolt heads and magazines have "M-Lock" forearms the BARRETT MRAD has the upper, forearm and Pic rail as a MONOLITHIC solid piece. That is a great advantage in eliminating tolerance stacking of many pieces that need to be very tightly attached to each other - but may not be in actual practice.

There are a lot of gold nuggets in this video. I would just add, record the adjustments you make that end up getting your hits. Record those for each distance and youll be able to make a DOPE card. DOPE meaning data on previous engagements

Best concept to visualize. Don't think about distance think about time variables have to effect the bullet. A 3 or 400 yard shot there really isn't that much time variables have an effect. If you factor in magnification that's at least 1x per 100 yards 400 yards and a 1-2 moa rifle 400 yard hits are nothing.

This might be the first time I get to disagree with you about something lol. I'm a pretty big fan of the AEMS. I agree on the price, and would suggest to be patient and wait out for a solid deal like I did. The tint isn't any worse than an Aimpoint PRO to me, and the claims of it being nice with NV I can confirm, being a big factor for me personally. That's pretty high praise being that I'm comparing its performance to other optics I have that's popular with NV such as the Eotech EXPS3, Aimpoint Comp M4s & T2 and even a Vortex Huey. Thanks for the heads up on the mount. The mount itself seems robust, but that detent attachment point I did wonder if it risked slipping with a hard enough impact. For that reason, I gobbed loctite on the threads to double up on securing it. The AEMS is on a 6" 300blk build, and it gets banged around a lot through transport. It travels with me daily for work. But it hasn't been dropped straight on the optic yet, such as in your testing. Zero has stayed on mine with "practical" mistreatment. As always, love your unbiased content. Even if it doesn't always match with mine. This time, being the first 😎
