Long-Tailed Tits: Masters of Nest Building. How do they do it? 

One of the best and most interesting birding videos I have ever seen! You are a wonderful communicator and an inspiration to us all, Mike.

A wonderful documentation of these amazing nest-builders! Thank you! It is always very funny to me how they seem to completely ignore the enormous tail they have, it's just bending in place!

Wonderful filming. One of my favourite birds. Its using single strands of spiders webs to secure the nest to the branches. absolutely amazing.

Cannot beat a bit of Gaffer tape!! Saying the nests are easy to find, then proceeding with a thermal imager, is a little hard for us nesters to take..lol. Wonderful footage by the way!

Great video. What a magnificent nest, I had no idea any British birds started building so early. February in the UK can still be bitterly cold. I'm planning to visit Leighton Moss in July. I have been told this is a good spot to see a Bearded Tit which would be a first for me. Fingers crossed. I am also going to visit Gigrin Farm and Bempton Cliffs in the UK, amongst other places.

An exemplary demonstration of how to photograph a bird at the nest without disturbance. I too often see people gardening around the nest to get a better view for the camera and this nearly always results in the nest being predated later, by crows or magpies. Loving your videos, it's inspiring me to maybe make another film. I will put a link to this video in the description for my own sequence on these gorgeous little birds.

This is beautiful! Next time you ought to have gloves that cover all the way till your fingertips. The end result was just too good. The quality upscale with the Lumix clearly showed. You make us privy to wonderful unseen worlds and thanks heaps for that! Fascinating work by the birds...the care, love and dexterity clearly shines through

cheers mate, having the DJI A4 myself here are some pro tips: the red LED lights can be turned off in menu, same as the beeping noise it makes when turn on or off. set the video to: - 4k30 (newest firmware update from yesterday improves the auto HDR footage alot to get the darker areas) - rocksteady ON - FOV set to standard dewarp ( for a bit more zoomed in video and reduce risk to be too close - out of focus) - exposure +0.3 ISO 100-400 - WB manual set to 5200k (or whatever you prefer - super important to not have it on auto) SETTING MENU: - sounds MUTE - Scren Off when REC: 15sec or less (to turn off screens when you start video) - LED: switch off (that will turn all lights on cam off while recording to not startle wildlife) whit these settings your video should become even better. cheers!

Excellent video , I was lucky to find one a couple of years ago captured on video. Returned a week later the branch and broken high winds, nest abandoned.

Incredible and yet again inspiring - another 'todo' or at least "have a look at doing" for next year. How many days were you engaged in taking all of this footage both with the DJI and LUMIX? Weather conditions and lighting must have changed over a couple of hours I suspect so were you back and forth on successive days? I am definitely going to have to 'up' my birdsong recognition repertoire which is pitifully small at the moment ..... or make more use of Merlin 🙂

It seems that nn a DJI you were actually too close. Footage looks out of focus. What is behind the nest seems sharper.

The setup was ingenious! And the footage from G9II looked marvelous! What apeture on a lens did you use?

I have a pair nesting in a compact thorny bush next to the pond in the garden. Would they leave a nest due to bad weather, we have some really heavy downpours and haven't seen them for a couple of days

I suggest protective gloves.
