Long-term Effects of Exposure to Harmful Algal Blooms (LEE-HABs) Study 

Our August 2024 Water Ambassador webinar covers the University of Central Florida and Florida Atlantic University's research on long-term effects of exposure to Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs), particularly blue-green algae. Dr. Rebecca Koszalinski, Associate Professor in the College of Nursing at UCF is leading this research. She leads a Florida Department of Health funded study with a large team of investigators, including epidemiology, water, air and environmental scientists, bench and nurse scientists, and nursing students in the investigation of health outcomes of harmful algal blooms, which is a significant problem to address for our Florida population. Co-presenter Dr. Malcolm Maclaren from the FAU-Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute provided background on HAB species of concern in Florida.
