Thank you so much for being so thorough with this device. I had so many questions about connectivity and google voice functionality. Such an underrated device im ordering mine now. Nothing comes close, even with any new wearable just comin out now.
Good review - one thing i'm not using on my LG R is voice control as it simply isn't practical most the time and when it is it's very touch and go as to whether it will work. The original gear three years back was more useful to me than my current android wear which surprised me. My fav watch is still the Pebble 'that I've experienced personally' with it's great outdoor viewing much like your Toq. One thing i did use that you don't with the first gen gear was phone call function - pulling that huge note out is was a pain when driving or out and about.
I just got rid of my gear S 😭I loved everything about it. Loved the square design while others went to the traditional round. The only thing I miss is the camera that was on the original gear series. I thought it was too cool. I updated to the new rose gold Samsung watch. Its ok and pretty But I miss my first love
I really liked your review and i just got this, and had a few questions you may be able to answer. First I was able to get this from sprint and my provider for my phone is verizon. Will that be a problem if I pair them and will it use my phones mobile network and not sprints? Thanks!
honestly the best review of this device I've seen. very real world and well put together. also, the Qualcomm Toq is one of my favorites of all time as well! I wish another smartwatch would use the Mirasol display.
Great video. Keep up the good work. I love my Gear S. So far their Tizen system beats the hell out of Android Wear. Even Apples new watch OS looks better than Wear. Google needs to revamp Wear!. Looks? Who cares if a smartwatch looks like my Grandfathers old round watch. We want info on our wrist in a format that we can easily see and deal with. Gear S does that. Size? If you measure the entire size of other watches, lug to lug, you will find that the S is about the same size as it is all screen, and if conforms to your wrist better. Outside visibility, try the second screen - the white, reflective one outside. It shows up well in sunlight. Say, would love it if you would do a Panasonic DMC FZ1000 camera review. Mahalo from Hawaii.
***** Think of salt on desserts, like dark chocolate or caramel. Salt does an amazing job of working with your taste buds to enhance other flavors. Plus it can be a catalyst in chemical reactions. Two schools of thought, adding salt AFTER brewing is more of a flavor, adding salt to the grounds BEFORE brewing reduces bitterness, but doesn't change the flavor much. I prefer adding salt to the grounds before brewing.
Good to see ya man. I finally had the pleasure to play with one of these yesterday and it was Great. I love what they did with tizen. When the price starts dropping, I might pick one of these up.
JuanBagnell I can see that due to your extremely through review. Well done man. I had an interview at Sprint yesterday with plenty of tone to kill. The S was love at first sight
I did! My business isn't doing too well lately. Product in demand and almost no funds to supply. It went pretty well I hope. From what I gathered, they want cut throat salesmen which was made very clearly. It was intimidating and not as laid back as previously thought. They gave me 3 products to learn and sell and they did not care for specs lol I think I was being too techy. I can detail and write informative pieces but extreme selling...Fingers crossed though.
The Samsung Milk is not as good as the Google Play Music but since I can sideload my music media I really can't complain but I do enjoy the Google Play music better. I think the music app needs the most improvement on the Gear S.
Hey Great video love how you explained everything,my question is will this Samsung watch work with other phones besides Samsung I have the new moto razor 2023the full screen model on outside,so will it pair ,I have the gear Forester n no problem so it should work no problem correct ? Please let me know cause I waiting to purchase one ,any help be appreciated
Zech S It does have it's own SIM. It'll add a charge to your monthly account to use your shared data. You can use it on BT and WiFi instead, just it wont have the phone call forwarding capabilities.
Great review mate this is what all smartwatches need to be 4g and no need for a phone to work now we just have to wait a couple of years for the technology to improve.
This was the best Samsung smartwatch around back than due to sim card insert and shape not circular that I like however the battery life wasn’t good didn’t last long ! My second preference was the Gear 2 release in 2014 with the camera and the battery was very good on this one last two days 👍
My daughter has a "kids" watch which is the spiritual successor to this Galaxy. Basically a fully contained phone on your wrist. Genuinely wish I could get a version for grown ups.
Hi my gear s smart watch broke where the battery connect on the watch not the battery the clip on the watch where the battery connect. who can fix that?
👍👍⌚⌚📱📱 .. Tempting , but I'll probably wait for the next Gear S .. but if there's a significant price drop , I'll probably get the current Gear S .. Good Video 😆
unonice I think there's still plenty of room for refinement, but even the Gear 2 was a solid experience IMO. It's kind of hysterical though that the current Gear S with a cell phone radio, is still less expensive than the cheapest Apple Watch.
Do we have to use a shared mobile data plan to utilize the Internet functions of the watch? Or can it be connected to your phones 4G service? The reason I ask is because I have unlimited data on my note... Unfortunately att will not allow me to use this with my current data plan. With that said I rather purchase the watch without obtaining a separate plan...
bb0ytaps1 The calling features require a separate SIM, which means it goes on a shared plan. You could use the watch over BT and WiFi, but it wont forward calls obviously.
no it does not need a relationship with your phone,,it can be set up WITHOUT A PHONE and used without a phone, pairing it with a phone is an option not a necessity
kevin osborne Hey what's up Kev! Moto 360 certainly is pretty. What kind of flashy time piece are you rocking now? I'm keeping it simple with a Citizen when I need to dress up.
JuanBagnell Lol i hear ya bro...it all depends on what i'm wearing that day.I've been wearing my 360 lately though.....watches are just hella classy bro, don't know how some men don't wear them you know!
i Honestly would like to know who uses these smart watches. I mean I really have no use for one. except to show off that I am a nerd. I am being serious. Who has a smartwatch and what do you need/use it for? (Thanks)
***** It's a pithy question to ask which has a very nuanced answer that all depends on what services you use, how you handle social situations, and how you interact with your phone. I summed up my experiences here in this editorial www.examiner.com/article/but-my-phone-does-everything-a-smartwatch-can-why-you-re-wrong
Easy question man. If you're a stay at home person, then it's not really needed. I wear my pebble to have a watch with back lit display. I would connect it to BT and put my phone on mute when I take the dogs for a walk, attend a meeting, bike riding, going to the movies, playing with the kids, and doing work. It's remarkably convenient. Especially when your busy and Bill collectors are calling. Pita to pull your phone out just to mute the call. I'm ready to upgrade to a watch with a Mic so I can easily reply to text or Google on the fly.
Isaac Abraham LOL! Walking the dog is a perfect example. Leash in one hand. Bag of poo in the other. Get a phone call I need to answer. Actually quite a bit easier with a watch to answer that call :-D
JuanBagnell i have installed the "here we go" on my phone and also on the watch, but when trying to get direction it gives a message on the watch"No routes , try finding a different designation". Location on my phone and on the watch are ON. What's the issue there?
Gerardo Quintero Oh I do actually, and I should have made more of a point out of it, but the video was long enough, and it was REALLY hard to show off sliding around the watch face on video. I kept sliding the watch around the frame, and the shots with the watch on my wrist were garbage in my little studio.
Don't have too, I just bought the 2 separate items to make that happen, I'm sure a certain app is required to make it work! Hopefully I don't have to go through programing to do that! :)
JuanBagnell I saw videos about OTG (On The Go) I believe its a third party app, can I send third party apps from my Samsung Galaxy S3 to my Gear S too?
Dan Man Next gear should be the round face watch released alongside the Galaxy Note 5. I don't know if it will be a BT/WiFi watch or if it will have its own cell radio.
***** In my last comment, that "should" doesn't mean _"I think they should do that"_ it means the next version we'll see is the round face. We've already seen some info on that leak, and it should be announced alongside the Note 5.
***** I REALLY hope they don't pull sd card expansion from their phablet... Apple will probably add a standalone phone mode for the Apple Watch 4. REVOLUTIONARY!
***** Man. Playing with the Icon and the S6. Shooting UHD video and HUGE photos (even bigger capturing RAW on the Lumia). 32GB gets filled up really fast...
+Antonio Smith How do you know if you want it if you don't know how perfect it is though? Those are really the existential questions which keep us up at night. Beyond mental exercises like "what's the sound of one hand clapping" (which is really easy to answer if you don't have arthritis, when you think about it), just HOW do we KNOW these things? Like we know swaggbitches love these perfect fast things, but WHY do we know swaggbitches be loving on these things, right? HOW do swaggbitches know they love these fast perfect things? It really is a quandary...
+JuanBagnell lol you got it so wrong. What I mean by swagg bitch is I bought it because it fit my swagg not the bitches.. If I like how it look and what it do I'm gone get it because I want it no Matter what's better out there I can care less. Why you think people buy theses expensive watches with stones and things in them because it fit they swagg even tho it might be a better watch out there but who cares if you want it just get it if you like how it look get it just on that who cares about performance that's what I'm saying maybe it's me or maybe you know nothing about that street life and money we do/buy thing just because we want it
Antonio Smith AH! I think I understand better now. NOT swagg bitches as in "bitches who be up on you because of your swagg" but more "folks who be bitching about your swagg as they are jealous of the swagg you be sporting". That makes SO much more sense now. Thanks for the clarification. So the thing about technology, it's become fashionable, but it wasn't always cool. You have to understand I was in this game when putting a computer together meant having to know how to solder. I used to hide how geeky I was from my friends. Back then, this was all function and very little form, so we still have that conflict today on how we spend our cash between "what looks cool" and "what does it do". Some folks want tech that better fits their style, some folks spend cash on features. Most people want some kind of balance between the two.
