Rest now my teacher. Your restless soul has done enough damage and gave us so much more joy than we deserved. You will always be remembered as the universe goes on forever.
We will never hear those harmonies again. Still the best three part harmony I can think of. Much emulated, but never bettered. Thank you David for the songs. You will be missed.
I always felt like their solo voices were pretty much mediocre alone, but when they all sang together it produced something magical. They were very lucky when they stumbled upon that combination.
To this day, I don't think David will ever realize the effects his music has on the world. It's probably much more than he imagines, and we're damn thankful for it.
Five Years. Long Time Lots of Change in that Time!! Five years. There World 🌎 has melted and gone too Shit’ The fat Furor America is fkd up Technology FKN has ruined the world 🌎 I told Microsoft go to hell after building windows95 Fuck technology
Yes, Dave is fried, but he still has more talent in a fingernail than most of todays garbage put together. These guys are incredible with harmonies that are mind blowing. Stunning.
In 1985 I decided to see CS&N at Alpine Valley, East Troy, Wisconsin. I had never seen them before. Not a fan of folk rock I was expecting an average concert. CS&N proved me wrong. From start to finish their harmonies were absolute perfection! I was wide eyed and slack jawed at their musical harmony. It was nirvana. All three of them deserved to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice! That concert from so long ago has turned out to be the best concert I have ever been to. It's 38 years later and I remember it vividly. It is a great sorrow that David Crosby has passed away since then. RIP, David, I look forward to hearing you perform again in the ultimate Rock and Roll band in heaven.
I saw --I think it was Crosby and Stills--in Seattle once, and all three of them together another three tmes. Don't remember if Neil Young was part of those concerts or not. Most of my favorite songs are by CSN, including my all-time favorite, Cathederal. It helps that I can hit all of their notes: love singing along--to their studio recordings. They never sang a song quite the same way twice in concert. Makes it hard to keep up with the timing. Still uplifting listening to them. A group that sings a lot of CSN and does them great justice is Foxes and Fossils. Five part harmonies, and three of the voices young womens'---I think David would have been tickled pink. SYA (Suddenly Years Align, three lovely young Dutch women) also does a lot of CSN, and does it very well. Incredible harmonies. Again, I think David would have been pleased.
No one came close to these guys, they were unique musically, vocally and all in-between and beyond. Where is their type of music nowadays, nowhere to be found. They deserve their place in music history for ever.
Freakin' awesome bass playing here. Croz nearing rock bottom, Stills a complete monster , Nash as solid as an old oak tree. Great stuff man. Thanks for the upload!
I wish David was here to feel all the love the world has for him. Every artist imaginable commenting how he shaped their own music and what an important founding member of the birth of electric rock and roll ❤️
I think maybe he knew - David did a lot of bad stuff and I think he always felt he paying a kind of penance for it - and maybe he didn’t deserve to be loved. We can be thankful we had him for 81 years - that’s an impressive feat for someone who’s lived a healthy life.
These guys have always been amazingly good! So good to listen to this shout "..SPEAK OUT, speak out against the madness!..speak your mind!.." Wow! Stand up for what's good in this life, people...leave the trash behind...wipe it off your lives, I say! Put some meaning to what you do and hope for! That's what CSNY have been doin' for decades...LIVE LONG to them! Great bass, great guitar, great voice ...whatta harmony on stage! Peace!
I never cease to be amazed the collective raw talent of this iconic , legendary group. Thx for the consistency over the years . Never get tired of them, regardless of how often I listen!
A lot of pro and con comments regarding drugs. I get it. However, consider this. These bands wrote lyrics and composed music unlike any other decade, while stoned and jacked up. But...what harm was done? Who did they murder? Who did they rob? Whose child did they molest? What riot did they incite? What war did they engage in? What corrupt politics did they conceive? What students did they gun down? Are you getting the picture?
I’m looking for music and entertainment, not an ideology, I certainly would not take or need advise how to conduct my life from anyone in entertainment save for George Carlin! Crosby is a douche,
Crosby has admitted recently that he felt pot was beneficial to the process while most the harder stuff was detrimental. Heroin was simply looking for a high as good as the first and never finding it.
In 1969 I was 7, turning 8 in the Fall. I'm a 60's kid and grew up with this music. I still love it and play it and yes....ROCK & ROLL FOREVER! IF IT'S TOO LOUD, YOU'RE TOO OLD!
Crosby's Brilliance so apparent- vocally and lyrically- he always speaks out his beliefs- Nash admired that so much- their relationship has endured beauitfully despite the hell Crosby went through and how it was constantly tested- love between brothers remain!!!
Thanks Ryan, I recently read a book of Nashes about their years of touring and I know they had several disagreements over the years. I would just love to hear them together again. I’ve been following them since I was 16.
robert glenn Well, David is much, much better now... Presence wise, voice wise. I attended this tour and- and others. I can testify he is. Well...we all know the reason, don't we?
SICK , i DONT CARE WHAT HE IS ON .WELL DONE MAN.HE CAME OUT OF IT AS WE HOPE TO. HIS PERFORMANCE WAS STILL IMMACULATE.GOD WHOEVER HE IS IS LOOKIN AFTER HIM.GROOVY BRO.
Bless your soul for speaking truth. Some people just always want to focus on the negativity. I know you’ve heard that saying “ misery loves company”. It’s so true. 😊 we love David, he worked hard to get clean and that’s all we need to know!!❤👍👌I choose to celebrate his life !!!!
Epic song. The beginning to the famous Woodstock film. Just can't enough. "It's been a long time comin, It's gonna be a long time, gone" Wow. Awesome. "And it appears to be a long haul, Before the dawn." " But you know, The darkest hour, is always just before the dawn." Who could put these lines any better?
This capture of this performance of this song is just amazing...this is not the first time I've seen video of David Crosby have "that look" in his eyes, HAHA! I used to not be big on David Crosby's stuff, but the more I listen to it, the way more I get just how good he is at what he does...for me, when they sing harmonies, all three together, Nash vocal tone stands out, Stills vocal tone stands out, but it's what David Crosby does that I have trouble pinpointing...IMO, what he does is like the glue, like that secret ingredient that turns it all into this unique musical sound that is just extremely hard to duplicate...compared to like when the Beatles are singing harmony all together, like in the song Because...nothing sounds like that but them doing it together...anyway, thanks for posting this, and hope you and yours are doing great.
your best David. RIP. Written as a reaction to the assassination of Bobby Kennedy in 1968, this moody David Crosby song on Crosby, Stills & Nash’s debut album was a warning of darker days ahead. The chorus refrain, ‘It appears to be a long time before the dawn’, echoes the foreboding atmosphere. With the tragedies at Altamont and Kent State ahead, it was not too far off the mark.
Music royalty in my opinion and the fact they’re all still with us today is a miracle and we should appreciate the time we have left with them and their music god bless all of them and Dallas too.. ✌️❤️🎶
Every CSN(Y) song and album was like the greatest hits of the individual creators and performers, and yet somehow it even transcended that mark to become something that touched more deeply than those individuals could on their own. David Crosby, rest now my teacher... Your restless soul has done enough damage and gave us so much more joy than we deserved. You will always be remembered as the universe goes on forever.
Why did he *ALWAYS* hide his teeth? Somethings going on there. Even in interviews, he never smiled to show them and his moustache always hid his mouth. I gotta talk to his prior dentist.
@@holeypeacoathis comments were not good !..he was a heavy drug user and New Ager...his son is a Christian...but he was not you will know then by their fruits... db
As spontaneous as this seems, you can see it's extremely well choreographed. Graham is exactly in sync with David. He knows what's coming. So well done... RIP David.
Spot on performance by the band. I would have loved to been a fly on the wall at this concert. David Crosby was often so under the influence from what what is written. But man could he harmonize with his brothers. RIP man. You did well.
I believe this is one of the best performances of Long time gone. Wonderfull guitarplaying, solo and CH singing. Very inspiring indeed. Crosby looks stoned, but that gives the performance a nice edge.
I fell in love with this group, back in the early '70's when I was wearing an Army uniform, and my instrument was an M16. I literally, wore out two copies of the "4 Way street" album.
Robert Barker I was an 18 year living in my 65 VW van roaming around the western US, doing odd jobs for gas and food. I remember driving for hours/ days listening to “4 way street” 8 track tape. Thanks for your service, the last thing I wanted was to be drafted.
Great song. Incredible four part harmony. I’m a Woodstock era kid, born in 1954. CSNY was a huge part of my growing up. I’m 69 years old. I still listen CSNY and there solo albums. Their music makes me feel young. What incredible talent!
I was a teen in the 70's and CSNY was always playing. Neil Young had some fantastic songs, such as "You are like a Hurricane". This era of music will go down as the best music of all times.
I saw CSN for the 2nd time about 3 yrs ago and I saw David perform this and he literally sounded exactly the way he did on the original album, his voice is still very strong he sounded excellent, sounded like I was listening to the album
When I first heard this song as a kid, and I pictured Crosby and Stills in my head, they didn't look like this. It was a revelation to see a couple of average looking guys, a rockin and a rollin!
So fucking good. It doesn't get much better than this. This is the real stuff that we so miss and lack today. Sir Crosby is high beyond high here but he kicks some serious butt no matter what state he's in. And today's half ass wanna be rock star/junkies don't even reach up to his toenails no matter how much c they snort. It does not come from the drugs, it comes from the heart. But if it's drugs it takes to get this realness back, then I say: for gods sake light up.
R.I.P. my friend. Loved your music. And this bassguitar player. Wow. How do you make CSN funky? Well he just did it. Love to all music lovers from Holland.
