A short film about sailing Sugata, a Hans Christian 38' MKII, for 11 years around the Channel Islands of California. Sailing Sugata has perhaps been one of the most defining parts of my coming-of-age. Starting in 2012 when I was just a boy, my family would sail all summer long and explore the Channel Islands, admiring the differences in flora, fauna, and geology of each island. In college, the trips were limited to shorter week-long trips during the breaks and now that I am starting my own career, it is harder to find time for such adventures. For the thousands of miles we have put under her keel and times when we encountered rough weather, we are thankful for the unmatched sea kindliness of the Hans Christian design which kept us safe and sound.
All drone usage occurred in accordance with federal, state, and local laws. The drone was taken off and landed outside of any designated National Park, wilderness area, or no-fly zone. Do not fly in these areas.
