I was driving my car out from garage to go to work and my phone pops, i look to the seat and see a notification... *_Crunchie uploaded a video: Longboarding Tips..._* I nearly cried... also good friday to everyone and have a nice weekend everybody!
Love the videos and I love how you've become more open with the content you post. I just got into snowboarding and bought a sector 9 pintail for daddies board shop. Ill keep watching if you keep posting
Hi Crunchie, you are one of my most favorite YT channels out there and I love skating and downhill longboarding. I learned a few slides on a straight road with pushing as fast as I can. But I can't progress any further because I can`t find good hills around with low traffic for beginners... what can I do?
Can you do a slide tutorial video, I can stand-up slide at speed but have never managed to be able to put my hand down with slide gloves and slide with my hand down so it would help alot.
doblewood this video applies to things like dancing already, all of the same steps and principles will still work. How fast you go is up to you. Almost any setup can be adjusted for any speed
Try putting paraffin candle or wax shavings in between your washers, bushings, kingpin and also in pivot cups. Or buy new pivot cups (by Riptide for example) and choose the right model for your trucks model
Hey I have a problem... I can't tighten or losen my trucks because when I try to turn the kingpin the whole bolt turn and that's why nothing happens. Can someone please help me. Do I have to by a new board?
You gotta carve a little. Trying to go in a straight line is a great way to get wobbles, but if you are slightly carving it can help with stability in my experience.
sorry I feel like you just did a good job explaining how to tighten one's trucks ... but I couldn't help but to stare at your beard the entire time so I didn't really listen to what you said I like your beard
I don't have the money to become a patreon for any channel (broke university student and all) but this is probably the only channel I would consider. I'm not 100% sure why. I think it's because it blows me away how difficult some of these videos would be to make. Keep making all of your awesome videos, cruncie!
I have reached my patreon goal for this month so I will be making a sliding tutorial video for my patrons, if you would like to view it you can become a patron :)
Crunchie hey Crunchie I have bought my first board like 2 months ago Arbor BUG PREMIUM 2016 V, *36 X 8.5 | París 150mm 50 degree trucks | 65MM X 78A Arbor Mosh Wheels*, I live in NYC so the 'cold' is right around the corner. I wanted to spend at least 250.00$ for a good freestyle/downhill like the Arbiter DK maybe from Muir skate to have it custom made, what parts would you recommend on that deck for downhill/sliding I'm 5'8 175lbs - 180lbs I carry a lot of muscle, pretty much all around because I live in NYC and I would like it to commute as well... Or I could just always switch back to the board I have now to get in and out of those oblivious pedestrians and use the Arbiter DK for strict downhill/sliding etc. I'm actually a fast learner (very athletic), I feel very comfortable on my board now, according to this guy that works at Zumiez he saids the way I keep my trucks (loose) is the right thing to do and get use to, he thought I was riding for yrs, but I'm comfortable being able to turn THAT MUCH as opposed to having the trucks fairly tight. Thanx. I bombed this hill here in NYC on Amsterdam, the ones who live here or have seen this hill know what I'm talking about. No helmet, or gear and cluttered traffic... That hill is EXTREMELY Steep I was going at least 40-50mph tears came out my eyes from the wind gust, CRAZY jelly legged speed wobbles, I bombed that with pretty much the board that described above (Arbor bug premium 2016) When I was at the bottom of the hill I honestly said to myself how on hell nothing bad happened to me. Next time I go for that hill *I will wear GEAR*, that's for sure... A hill around my way makes me go about 28-30 no where near what I experienced in Amsterdam in NYC.
Crunchie you are in Australia? That's so cool, so exotic. I'm from NYC (not the rich part) born and raised here. How come I can understand your accent? Sometimes aussies accents are hard to understand, at least for me it is. I have París Reverse Kingpin trucks 150 MM on my Arbor board. I'd like Bigger ones to go downhill. I went down the big infamous hill here in Amsterdam in NYC yesterday... I got a crazy speed wobble but I some how manage to the bottom of the hill without wasting.
logan taylor once upon a time a I watched this movie called *Once Were Warriors* made in New Zealand the movie came out in 94, but I watched it a few yrs after that, in 94 I was 10 so I think I was old enough, enough to watch it... I always thought it was Australian, until I did some research and found out later on that the movie was made in New Zealand. It was about a disfunctional *Mauri* family that was addicted to alcohol and partying... Awesome movie I tell ya
Dude you’ve been a great help ever since I got my first longboard and I cannot explain how many videos I’ve searched on RU-vid and then ur videos always come up first, thanks for the zealous bearings video and for this also
I found this out through trial and error, but HEARING it makes it make so much more sense. I found my happy medium with Venom 88a SHRs (though I run 91a boardside on my DH setup). The stock Paris bushings are a harder duro, but I don't like their rebound. The SHRs are more snappy, which feels great coming out of a carve... I'm a nerd. This video was helpful.
One super simple tip on figuring out if you need harder or softer bushings is to tighten the nut until you cant turn the washer and the bushing by hand without using excess force. If it's too loose or too tight, swap the bushings yo.
Christian Teplitzkyvich-MacPurvis This is what I do. When I skate vert I know with a new set of bones hard bushings I tighten to the point that the washer doesn’t jiggle, then tighten 2 full turns and I’m sweet to go. As the bushings soften I gradually tighten by a quarter turn. If I have to do that to the point of them being tightened 3 full turns I’ll get a new set and start over!
Very good explanation! Really liking the new videos, it's good to see you making more close and personal videos, complements the channel well and makes it more approachable. Bonus points for magnificient moustache :)
Great video and thank you. Just put a pledge In myself and look forward to all you other folks at least thinking about doing the same.......$10 per month? that's like two Shitty pies. Don't be shy people.
I feel like you gotta mention some people have preferences that stray outside this guide. Personally I like a tighter/slightly-dead feel, so I either tighten the stock bushings until they bulge or go for bushings above my weight class. Thats just what works for me and some people may ride better on the looser end of the spectrum. But no doubt, this is a good guide for people who are unsure of what they're doing.
A question I forgot to ask is how would u compare bones reds to the zealous bearings? Life span? Speed? Resistance? How often should I clean them? Pls leave a response I’m on a tight budget and these two are the ones I narrowed down to, thank you so much man🤟
This makes a lot of sense! I was bombing a small hill, not too big nor too small and I was putting the weight towards my front so that I don’t have the speed wobbles... I then remembered (after watching this video) that I kinda did tighten my trucks a bit tight so I’ll probably have to adjust that right now
i had mine loose to the point where i think like 2 threads were holding the nut to the board lost a nut and the next couple days after i bailed going off my board close enough to 30mph (wear a helmet) when he says make sure you don't wobble, MAKE SURE YOU DONT WABBLE
Hey Crunchie I am a fellow longboarder from new Zealand. I started watching your videos and i t got me off my Xbox and onto my longboard. I was just wondering if there was any competitions coming up for longboard in new Zealand? If u wanna cheak out some of the stuff I do u can see it on my utube channel "kiwi boarders"
I run the hardest bushing super tight, way more stable but to each his own, my longboard is a Burton Dragon snowboard with the biggest Independant trucks they make and 76mm Gravity wheels, carves like a dream even over manhole covers. 😊
Wow, thank you so much!!! This video helps a lot. Thank you for all the great content you provide, and for inspiring me to keep on riding day in and day out. Also I have a question if you don't mind: I ride gullwing reverse trucks (48 degree base plate, 89a rad bushings), and they have a reversible hanger. Now flipping it lowers the ride height by 1/4 of an inch, but If I flip them I need include risers. Would you recommend I run them unflipped, with no risers, or flipped with a 1/4 inch spacer
I don't know how many runs you have done in Australia, but the BTB (Beat the Bastard) hill, Mt Stuart, one of the best race runs in Queensland, we have a boi running 150 Paris casts, double yellows front, double greens back. He's smashing it.
On my conventional trucks I can't see if the bushing is bulging out, how many full turns past the point of resistance can a 90a conical bushing withstand without the pressure damaging it? It would be enough if you just gave me a recommendation when you think the bushing will get damaged.
Michael 0037 that’s what he says in the video lol. He just points out that having the kingpin nut super loose or super tight reduces the life of the bushings, so if you’re doing either of those you’re probably better off investing in softer/harder bushings
As soon as a i get a job, I'm becoming a patron for now i just have to like the vids, I really like your channel been watching for a while now, probably the worst at long boarding, thx for the vid i always faceplant due to speed wobbles
My first set of trucks bent about a month after purchasing the board. There was, and is, a clear deformity in the ring through which the kingpin sits. Ive used them for years (on and off) and never had too big a problem despite the board traveling very crooked when roll tested. Id do your best to straighten things as much as possible but a little bit of bend can always be adjusted for with skill. Ultimately id recommend picking up new trucks. Especially as we go into the fall season and a lot of websites will be clearing inventory.
Nice tips. I have an electric skateboard, and my board has 2 bushings on each side. One for road side and one for deck side. Would your tips be the same for these kind of boards ? Thanks
