Recurve for me , owned a long bow and now use my compound bow in traditional style and instinctive , just bow and arrow rest shoots similar to a recurve but much easier to hold an arrow at full draw for a long time and can adjust draw length and power at the turn of a key with a compound , good vid 👍 thanks .

That’s great! See, this is why I try to encourage anyone new, adults or kiddos, to start with trad. Learn instinctively first! There is such great value in that. Thank you for watching!

I set up a lot of bows for people and i find recurve under 35lbs you dont need so much silencing but a longbow has built-in silencing and is subject to less stacking but is slightly slower with lighter arrows but more consistent with heavy. Recurve has more speed not necessarily more power. Longbow has more torque. The more i lern the more i realise that everything depends on everything with variables on top of variables. Damn those are some beautiful bows

My longbow is a 64” PL II with diamondback skin on the limbs. My recurve is a 56” PSR in Graybark as well. I can tell you, these are both incredibly durable. I’m going to send my longbow back to be refinished since the skin is about 8 years old and it is definitely the bow I shoot the most. It’s starting to fade in spots and flake, but it’s gone a long time. 😃

Those are some perty dang bows. I am just addicted to shooting and making self bows. Heck i like making biws more than shooting them sometimes lol😂. Archery is a dagone fun sport thats for sure.

Thank you! I love my bows and sure baby them. They have sentimental meaning to me also. And That’s so awesome! Self bows are incredible and I can completely understand what you’re saying!

I must ask, i have an ILF recurve riser, and i was wondering if i can switch the limbs of the recurve out and put long bow limbs instead? Though i suppose if i do, the length of the bow will differ and I’ll have to get new string. Mm.

Yes on long bow limbs on a recurve riser and you will, by nature of the longbow, need both longer limbs and definitely a longer bow string.

Are they the greybark variant? They look much nicer in the video than pictures I saw online. Do you think they are more durable than the exotic wood variants?

They are both Graybark, yes. I can say this, these both have been incredibly durable bows. And they get A LOT of use!! I love the color / finish of them and the red/black accents just make it such a beautiful combination! They both also have the beavertail wrap, which I think also really changes the look these bows. Unfortunately, I do not think Black Widow offers this wrap option anymore. They do still have a leather wrap option though.

Seems like longbows exhibit more hand shock than recurves, all things being equal.

You know I think it comes down to the bows really. Out of all my bows, my Black Widow PSR recurve has the most hand shock (but is still minimal) but it is also my shortest, and heaviest bow.

It also depends on the shape of longbow. There are other things that contribute to hand shock, such as handle material, the amount of contact between the bow string and how, a few of my bows create additional hand shock if my brace height is off. The main difference between a longbow and recurve beyond size, in my experience is the feeling of the bowstring against your hand. A longer bow creates an obtuse angle applying less pressure on your hands. There is a noticeable difference between my ladies 40# 62 inch bear bow bow and my Skb 40# 48 inch recurve bow. The recurve feels a lot heavier.
