What stepper motor did you use on the z axis upgrade?

Unfortunately i had one of their printers. It was not good. Oh it worked fine, but the interface on the touch screen left a LOT to be desired. There was no way to baby step the machine. There was no leveling function if you installed BLTOUCH. The cooling solution was VERY bad. I gave mine away.

I’m new to 3D printing and purchase the Longer LK5 Pro printer and wanted to upgrade the z axis and found this video. I purchased two different stepper motors and found the the wire wasn’t the same as the one on the printer. Does anyone know the cable I can use. ?

Another good review. I bought one a week ago with the dual fan upgrade and it's printing great. Another "upgrade beyond the typical budget printer" is the coated glass bed. It's really quite fantastic. Other reviewers also mention that you should cut off the solder tinned ends of the nozzle heater wires that are held in the connector with screws and re-terminate with square pin connectors as this type of construction is a suspected fire hazard. I love mine and it simply can't be beat at the price point. Don't need the bed leveler as it's straightforward with the knobs. Once I fine tuned the rollers on the z-axis the layer resolution is perfect so I don't intend on getting the 2nd screw; although it's fabulous that you add in all the links and explain the benefits.
@AquaStevae
@AquaStevae Год назад
By "fine tune" do you mean just tighten them up a bit??? Yeah, I don't have a problem with manually leveling the bed if needed, and IFFFF tightening up the z axis wheels a bit gives much better stability down low, then I'm all for that as well, saving the money. Can you say which reviewer spoke about the cutting off the soldered tinned ends of the nozzle heater wires??? I'd like to see that vid also. Thanks.

Great review, the drawbacks don't seem to bad, increase the layer height to 75% of the nozzle diameter and line width to 125% to make stronger/faster brackets

Is there a way to install the Bltouch without needing the odd wire from computer to printer?
@AuroraTech

No, this is the biggest con of this printer, the screen doesn't support adjusting Z-offset.

Hi, I've had the LK5 since the beginning of last year and have had all kinds of problems with the hot end(s). I'm on the fourth hot-end replacement - all factory hot ends - and the problems persist. It seems to cool down drastically in the middle of prints and never seems to get to the proper temperature. I'm printing PLA at 250c 25mm speed and 12mm layer height because that's about the maximum it can reliably print. I've witnessed it set at 220c but drop to 160c with no outside input and no change in ambient temperature or environment. I'm not sure a hot end change would do any good as it seems that whatever controls the heating is causing this. This is an ongoing problem from day #1 with this printer that I've been in contact with Longer support dozens and dozens of times. They basically just stopped responding, so I think I'm on my own here - any thoughts on what parts to replace or maybe a drop-in hot end replacement you'd recommend would be super-helpful. Also, if I can get the hot end problem solved, I will definitely be upgrading to the double-Z and leveling - Thank you for those!

Great job as always. Just a tip though the wheels are Delrin (or should be) not rubber :) Do some research on Delrin material you will run into it more in your future if you choose to go to a more engineering focus in your professional future. Keep up the good work!

Great review as always. I have to say that sometimes your expertise and familiarity with these printers concerns me regarding your conclusions as someone with no experience doing modifications. Something that is a minor upgrade to you may be a major endeavor to me. I would not have a clue for instance on how to enable the bed leveling sensor in the firmware/slicer/gcode. This is why I went with a Prusa. I have been doing 3d printing for a decade, but always with fairly robust printers, and I have been out of it for 2 years. Lulzbot mini packed up 2 years ago and now an prusa on order. I have been fortunate to have had ZERO issues with the lulzbot other than an issue with the autoleveling that a call to their support fixed in short order with a beta firmware version.

Duuude, superb review! I've been watching pretty much everything there is on yt over this printer since I'm looking foward getting it as my 1st, and you're the only one to ever speak properly about the upgrades, and even better, provide proof of what they do to the queality. Lest to say, I'm sold by your review. Thank you very much. Got a sub from me :)

just a diy fyi, if you use a flush cutter or a pair of toe nail clippers to flush cut the zip ties they wont have sharp edges on them. not a big deal on a printer but other diy stuff it can safe you from cutting up your arms when dragging your arm over them later.

Do you happen to have a clear walkthrough on installation and setup of the 3D Touch you used? I grabbed the exact one you suggested for my LK5 Pro and I can’t get pronterface commands to work after the firmware update on the board 😭

Hi. Awesome video! I am just getting into 3d printing and would like to upgrade the longer LK5 pro I just recieved to the dual z-axis. Please forgive the stupid question, but you mentioned you upgraded the LK4. But the video you linked to is for an ender. Would it take the same parts?
@AuroraTech
@AuroraTech 2 года назад
They are pretty much the same, you only need to print a different dual Z plate for LK4/LK5: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4774889 And a longer 500mm for LK5: ebay.us/s2fJ04
@richardbennett8678

The upgrade you used on the Longer lk4, will the same parts work fit the lk5?
@AuroraTech
@AuroraTech 2 года назад
Yes, they use the same backplate, you only need to get a longer lead screw(500mm) for the Z-axis.
@TheLiasas

Quick question: regarding what you said about the z offset, the need to connect the printer to a pc would be like for every time a new print is started?
@AuroraTech
@AuroraTech 2 года назад
No, you only need to do it once, but after you replace the nozzle or remove the hotend to clean up, you need to do that again as the distance between the pin of the BLtouch and the nozzle may have been changed.

I'd avoid longer printers like the plague I have two of the LK1 can't get either one calibrated their customer service is even worse im dealing with one of their guys he'll look at the message and not reply still waiting on his reply 😄 save the headache folks and get yourself a creality ender. Don't let the longer price fool you spend the extra bucks on a creality ender
