This is why I don't understand the disrespect towards kickers

Tom Dempsey's 63-yard game-winner 50 years ago is still the greatest kick in NFL history. Somebody could kick it 70 yards one day and it still won't surpass that moment. RIP Tom Dempsey.

Why have announcers become so bland. In the older clip it was “HE MADE ITTTTTT!!!!,” in all the new ones it’s “wow look, he made it.”

The remarkable thing about Dempsy's kick was that he is the only straight on kicker to do so, he only had half a foot, and he kicked it from the Saints 37 yard line. Today attempting a FG from the opponents 37 yard line is a risk.

A lot of these are with denver / in denver

Maher now owns the record for most FG s made of 60 or more yards with 3 👍

Now there needs to be a video like this that has Brett Maher's 63 yrd Field goal.

The kickers in the NFL is so underrated.

Some of these guys are really great kickers. But nobody can take away Dempsey's kick. 63 yards, with only half a foot.

If I were a kicker, I'd dream of kicking in Denver or the west coast at higher elevations. What Dempsey did at below sea level was impressive.

I was watching that Saints-Lions game where Dempsey set the record. I could've sworn it was a 64 yarder. I guess there are 3 tied @ 63 instead.

That first one blew my mind when I first saw it.

If anybody is wandering why the long ones are in Denver, it’s actually because of the thunder air at high altitudes. Basically there’s just less air for the ball to travel through

I was at the game when Matt Prater kicked the 64 yarder. Just sucks that I didn't see it because it was going to be halftime and I figured nothing was going to happen. Then I heard the loud uproar from the crowd.... Guess that beer could have waited 🤣

if u can, can you maybe make some type of video on my dad his name is Tom Whelihan he was a kicker and had an all time record at Mizzou for 62 yards he played 1984-1988 so it might be hard to find video footage. (I just think it would be cool)

You know, I wasn't a kicker on my high school football team, but I had a lot of respect for our kicking team. Yes, our kicker also was a wide receiver, but I don't think it had anything to do with that. Our kicking game was horrible. We made maybe 50% of our extra points and a 30-yard field goal was a HUGE deal to us. I know that pros are obviously really good at this, but the timing and skill it took to execute a kick is ridiculous. You have that long snap that the kid has to spin right so that it's catchable by the holder. Then the holder has to catch it cleanly and get the ball down. During this process, the kicker has to start their kicking motion with the faith that the ball will be where it's supposed to be by the time their foot goes through the planned contact point. For 17-year-old kids, this entire play was so much more difficult than any other coordinated offensive play like a screen pass or a guard pull and the results showed.

Any of this on florida? Many on Denver... wonder why...? 🤔🧐

The O game saints versus lions the man kicked a 63 yd field goal which was on the front of the end zone in those days it was 1970 and it stood for over 40 The man that kick the field go had half a foot 1/2 of an arm They had to make special shoes for his Foot and that was the kicking foot so he kicked a 63 yd field goal with half of A foot amazing

My fav kind football games are those low scoring defensive games that comes down to long FG , not really a fan of constant scoring I dunno why

Not only do you need the ability to kick a football over 60 yards, you also need a coach willing to hold your beer while you do it.

if you think about it that first 63 yd attempt by the saints is shorter than the recent 63 yd attempts cuz the field goal back then was in front of the end zone therefore that record is broken already

Most are in Denver because of the thin air and the ball travels a little farther. Think Rockies basebail home/road stats.
