Tell me, is this getting silly now? Where will it stop with brands strengthening lofts ? Let me know down below! First thousand comments & LIKES will get put into a price draw #1kClub

Jacking lofts is getting ridiculous. Its part of the reason why I think the P790 set is not very good - awesome irons, but because of the jacked lofts its way too hard to carry as a set in my bag.

I think it is silly for pros like you who can hit it far. i hit my 7 iron 150 yards but would love to hit it 170 yards and be on more greens than trying to hit a 5 irons and chunking it and never getting on the green on 2. these are not really catered for good players like you that dont really need distance.

I have the xr oversize and the lofts on those are too strong the rogue x are just ridiculous.You're going to need 5 wedges to fill the gapping as I'm struggling to find a balance with my pw at 43.5 with 4 already

Pushing boundaries is what technology is all about, don’t like don’t buy there are other std clubs out there. For the older generation who losing speed and power high launching strong lifts are probably very welcome. TBH getting bored hearing it’s not a 7 it’s a 5 from all the golf snobs

I picked up a very lightly used set of these yesterday. A wedge through 6 iron for $310. Took them right out to the course and had a blast. Shot my best round in weeks and had yet another near hole in one. I used to be a 6 handicapper but thanks to a couple of shoulder injuries and the effects of aging, I'm at around a 14 now. I've lost a good bit of distance. I got it all back and then some with these irons yesterday. I don't give a happy damn that they've strengthened the lofts. I just had fun knowing I could reach a green again with an 8 iron from 150 yds. Plus these things are so forgiving! Golf for me these days is about having fun on the course with my pals and not being constantly frustrated. No, these aren't the clubs for low handicappers, but statistically, most golfers are not low handicappers that can hit a 7 iron 200 yds.

I bought these clubs. It was my second set of clubs ever. I upgraded from a Tom Wieskopf cavity back square groove irons purchased in the late 80's or early 90's. I tested the Rogue X 7 iron and was hitting the ball 165-170 yards dead straight. The regular Rogue didn't feel right when I hit it. I was struggling to hit my old 7 iron 140 yards. I love the solid feel and forgiveness. The ball trajectory is higher for me, by a good bit. The ball comes downs very softly without much roll after landing. There isn't as much backspin compared to the square grooved clubs I used to hit. They are heavier than my old set of irons, but the balance makes them feel lighter in the hand. The fat hits make it to the fringe instead of being 20 yards short. The upgrade to current technology was a huge plus for me! It has improved my game(Last year I started playing most weekends walking 9 holes at a local course for exercise, last weekend I started birdie, birdie, par, birdie). I didn't purchase them to out hit the person I am playing with.....it was a present to myself because I was starting to spend more time playing. I did have to rework all of the yardages for my clubs by almost 25 yards......woe is me. First world problems. I liked your review, but may disagree with the takeaway. I loved that you posted the actual flight data. Great video!

I’ve taken golf back up after decades away. I’m 64 (retired 18 months ago), have Dupuytren’s Contracture, degenerated discs, and osteoarthritis. I got a set of the Rogue X irons (5-PW) from Callaway’s used shop and had them reshafted with senior flex and regripped. I appreciate the added distance . . . but compared to 25 year old me with forged heads on steel shafts there isn’t any added distance. I’m just getting some back with my current reduced flexibility and shorter backswing. I’m very happy with the clubs.

Hi Rick, love your videos, I just purchased these clubs, 6 iron to SW, hybrids 3, 4 and 5, 3W and driver, had them custom fitted, I'm what you consider the average golfer 18 handicapper and driver club head speed 95mph, these irons are fantastic, extremely forgiving, I have no drams stopping them on the greens, they have made a significant impact on my enjoyment playing golf.

Hi all - I bought a set of these about 3 months back, stiff shaft. 10 handicap and I love them! Super forgiving and I’m smashing the teed 4 iron well over 230. The stopping power on the greens is ok so far. Hard greens will be a different matter maybe! Very straight and I’m feeling like I can swing steady and really punch through. I expected them to be hard to work...not bad at all...easier to draw than fade. The real win for me is that I smile loads playing now! That’s priceless. Great videos!! Dude - review the C3i wedge... that’s also a magic stick!

@NineTo5Golf
@NineTo5Golf 6 лет назад
I think something that often gets missed is that, the target audience this iron is designed for don't hit it nearly as consistently, or even properly, as Rick. The golfer that this iron is targeted towards, is the 20-30 handicapper who loves golf, but couldn't be bothered to practice more than once or twice a week before he tees off, has little to not shaft lean/deloft, releases early, adds loft and cuts across the ball. This iron allows them to still make that swing, but have a TINY bit of help and if they happen to catch it square, it's still gonna be high and floaty because of the delivery of the club. In which case the ridiculous loft helps to keep the dynamic loft reasonable. Just my thoughts that popped up while watching Rick's reviews of GI-type clubs. His consistency helps to produce good data for the reviews, but it shows that his swing is just too good for these clubs and they OVER do what they're designed to do. Keep up the great content!

Disagree a little bit here too - I'm a 6 handicap and I love them. My only issue is getting the lower irons to check on the greens because of the low ball spin rate. But otherwise they're super smooth and an enjoyable club to hit.

Do we not think that the high handicapper, who wants to get more distance, will go for these? Although we saw Rick, smashing the 7 iron 193 yards; it would be interesting to see how far a high handicapper would hit it, probably around 160. They seem pretty forgiving clubs so I think it's more than just outhitting your mates in the weekly medal. As we know courses are getting longer so this will go some way in helping the shorter hitting players. They're definitely not a players club, too chunky. Just my thoughts so don't crucify me if you disagree :)

Thank you for explaining this. This just helps me realize that the club number doesn't matter beyond understanding what my abilities are with my clubs. For the same reason I've been consciously Not focusing on remembering what clubs and yardage are when I watch the pro tournaments as it totally messed me up when I play. So what if I need an extra club or two as long as I know what I'm going to need for that particular shot.

Rick, Your review is spot on regarding distance. I’m 55 with multiple sclerosis which has robbed me of swing speed. I’ve bagged these this season switched from 2017 M2 with 60g graphite shafts to the rogue x with 50 g graphite shafts. Swing speed went from 78 to 86 mph. I know the lighter shafts are a big part however handicap went from 11 to 6. Here’s the #’s: 4 iron - 185 5 iron - 175 6 iron - 165 7 iron - 155 8 iron - 145 9 iron - 135 P wedge - 125 A wedge - 115 G wedge - 100 Ping glide 56 - 80 These clubs have made me feel young and spry again!! The decent angles provide plenty of stopping power with the use of a tour ball. I play the TP5x exclusively. These irons paired with proper ball are game changers for an aging population. Thanks Callaway!!!

Hi Rick, Used these irons throughout last season and didn't notice any problems with stop on the greens. They've given me much more confidence when attacking the green with approach shots and got me down to single figures for the first time in a decade (I'm now 60). In fact, won our October medal with a net 63 by 6 shots, shooting a 3-over 75. Now if only I could putt, 'cos that 75 included 4 x 3-putts and a 4-putt.....(true story) Keep your videos coming Rick, they're keeping me sane in these strange and testing times!

Good review, I think these are great for high handicappers..which is who they are intended for. Did anyone see the amount of forgiveness in these... mishits that go just as far as the good ones and not losing too much? Also, proper shafts will help the ball get in the air for lower clubhead speed. I'm surprised people are questioning the market these clubs are built for. These are not for low handicap players..

Rogue won’t stop on the greens as much as a traditional lofted Iron. That’s just the way it is. The rogue 7 Iron has a loft of a 5 Iron. A five iron won’t stop on the green as much as a traditional lofted 7 Iron. Whether it be a high draw, high fade, low draw, or low fade. It just won’t happen. He’s saying for the low swing speed player, they might stop on the Greens. He doesn’t have to try it on the course. There is no point of a pro his caliber. Anyway, there are numbers he’s looking it. Its just a low center of gravity iron with a stronger degree club face. What shape do you usually hit with your short irons? What trajectory? Is your swing shallow or steep?

I bought these clubs and absolutely love them. And they have definitely helped improve my game but they're definitely not for most people. I'm fairly tall and need nonstandard length clubs, which makes full swings more difficult to control. I've been able to consistently dial it back to 3/4 and half-swings swings while maintaining comparable distance. Not only has this help me with accuracy, but it's helped reveal alot of the bad habits I picked up using my other set. Definitely worth it for me. That said, Rick is right. Don't trust the club numbers trust the loft. The pitching wedge is basically a 9-Iron. Carry high lofted wedges because the short game gets a little shorter.

Yes, it's already ridiculous with the lofts. What most people need is to go to the range rather than buy a new set of clubs. My 7 iron is 35 degrees, it goes 160 and I'm cool with that. What matters is that it goes 160 every time.
@johnnypenso9574

What if I go to the range on a regular basis but I'd like to hit a 9 iron length club the same distance as your 7 iron length club? Physics dictate you are going to be more accurate with the 9 iron length club in the long run than you are with the 7 iron length club.
@supertuber59
@supertuber59 6 лет назад
Physics dictate that loft is the angle of the club, regardless of what the number says. If you need a shorter club because you can't hit the ball, more power to ya, but you're just losing ball speed and height.
@johnnypenso9574
@johnnypenso9574 6 лет назад
Nope. If the face didn't deflect at all you'd be right. But the face does flex as does the ball. The physics of golf shots involve much more than just loft as the height these lower lofted clubs reach proves.

Fast forward to 2022. In the US, Golf Galaxy/Dick's Sports put these on sale for $599 (5 iron through U wedge). One market Rick might have missed is someone like me. I played competitive golf until my car accident in 2002 that resulted in three back surgeries. I needed a little help hitting my irons a distance I was more used to, which did the trick (plus some!). No need for a 4 iron anyway. I have had to readjust my mindset about the lofts. I may take the U wedge out and use my Calloway Jaws wedges. Rick did not like the look, but I loved the look. I have found them quite forgiving, and I like the sound. Thanks, Rick (from the future).

Who cares what lofts he uses, I don't judge him because he dumped his 3 iron for a hybrid because it's easier to hit. Granted this club isn't for you or lower handicappers but the 20 handicap guy still wants to know how it feels and how it looks and the other details.

Because its misleading, leads to incomplete iron sets with inconsistent gapping that make it harder for higher handicappers to have a good short game without buying even more wedges and it just essentially messes with the number system. Why number your irons if you are hitting at most a 7? Its really more about the numbering than the actual stronger lofts. A 5 iron at 27° with a shorter shaft is what it should be labelled as.

Hi Rick, i ve just moved to Rogue X irons. Playing off 24, i just wanted a bit of confidence in terms of distance and making the game more enjoyable. Ive just taken up golf and its my first season so want to enjoy and be more confident. Really informative video and helped me in choosing them. Perhaps, when I get a bit better I may switch to blades. Thanks

Stupid. The average player who will buy this won't be able to use anything lower than the 7 iron, lofts will be totally squished on that end, then the short irons are way more spaced

Average player currently can’t play their 3-7 irons already, so what’s the difference between that and them now not being able to hit their 4-8 irons and now needing another gw? It’s a labeling problem more than anything. If a consumer can’t figure that out it’s their own fault.

Here's the thing. Lofts and the numbers on the bottom of the club are irrelevant. Anyone freaking out about it is falling into the trap set by the manufacturers, which is, linking the numbers on the club and the lofts to some arbitrary fixed standard that doesn't exist. Forget the lofts and forget the numbers on the clubs, all that matters is what each individual club does when it's hit into a target from a given distance. If I hit a 7 iron or a 5 iron into a green , the green doesn't know what club I'm using or what the loft is. All that matters from that distance is the descent angle and spin. The only relevant comparison would be to take a fixed distance and hit the club into that distance that reaches the green. If it's a 7 iron from this set, a 6 iron from another and a 5 from another, that's the only relevant comparison. Comparing a 34 degree 7 iron to a 27 degree 7 iron is pointless because you'd never make the same shot with both clubs.
@mikenorthern1024
@mikenorthern1024 6 лет назад
Johnny Penso where your ball ends up matters though. Hitting a 34 degree 7 into a green will hold better than a 27 degree 7 iron. It does matter as you will have to adjust as the spin is lower and so is the ball descent angle into the green for most golfers that would use this type club, ie higher handicap players.
@johnnypenso9574
@johnnypenso9574 6 лет назад
You should probably read my entire response before responding yourself. You won't be hitting a 34 degree 7 iron into a green from the same distance as a 27 degree 7 iron. That's the entire point!

Hi Rick, love your videos! I'm new to the game and started late in life at 60 years old and am really enjoying your reviews. I think he means a 27deg "normal" iron, i.e. a 5 iron. I'd expect a normal 27deg club to go further due to the shaft length upping club speed and therefore ball speed depending how well you strike the ball

Rick, many of us lose distance as we age. We play stronger lofted irons not because we need more distance but because we are trying to retain the distance we are losing.; We're not cheating, we're not trying to beat Bill we just don't want to be looking at a 336yd par 4 thinking well that's going to be Driver 4 hybrid to get there. I get you don't like the whole stronger lofted club trend but hello your a young buck that hits it a long way, I'm a 65 year old who on a good day drives it 215 yards. Back off the attitude man.
@tonyreimann
@tonyreimann 6 лет назад
Dawson McNew not being rude but with your swing speed ( guessing it’s not high given driver distance) you couldn’t get a strong lofted 4 iron in the air. Try a 2 or 3 iron from a regular set and see....
@indydawson
@indydawson 6 лет назад
If you reread my comment you'll see I mention a 4 hybrid not iron. I use a 4 & 5 hybrid then I go to a 5 wood, 3 wood, and driver.
@tonyreimann
@tonyreimann 6 лет назад
I totally read your comment but you are going on the numbers on your current clubs. What you need to consider is the lofts. The point I am making is the 7 iron goes a 5 iron distance and has a five iron loft. The 5 iron will have a 3 iron loft and you simply wont get it in the air. In fact you may struggle with the 6 and 7 irons. This is the problem with the numbers stamped on the bottom. The 5 iron in your set may well be weaker lofted then the 6 or 7 iron in the Rogue X

there is nothing embarassing with having to use a 5 iron when the other younger guy is using a 7 iron. You're getting old, that is what age does to you. i dont get wjy you would feel insecure about your distance. it is a natural phenomenon for you to lose distance. nothing about this makes sense unless you are an older guys who feel insecure so they use a club that makes them "FEEl" confident and something they can try to show off with their old geezer buddies. noone is saying that using a stronger lofted club is cheating. i just find this whole thing funny, it reminds me of old people using viagra or something cuz there thing dont work as well as before.

Really disappointing review here, the game is about fun and trying to get low scores , ALL the new clubs have something extra, to help higher handicappers play better , so what if the loft is stronger , its the number of shots you take not the number on the club that matters, lower degrees , bigger sweetspot, stiffer shaft or bigger clubface, its all to help us play better !!! If the wedges are too strong buy different wedges , we have mixed bags I play Taylormade Slider Driver , Callaway XR irons with 3& 4 hybrid and a Titliest wedge with a Bridgestone putter , am i cheating because i prefer stronger irons ..... Poor review Rick ................

Johnny Penso ..it's all an illusion an quite frankly people who pay for this type of product are deluding themselves....distance yes but where is the control for such an advantage to be worth playing with them....it sort of falls in to the recent out cry to limit performance of balls how about limit the performance of clubs for all players with only a certain margin to modify....if people are all for distance and only distance then that ain't golf
@johnnypenso9574
@johnnypenso9574 6 лет назад
It's not an illusion, in fact it's the opposite of an illusion. It's physics. These clubs are designed for a certain ball flight with a given level of forgiveness, same as every other club. It might not suit my game or your game but it doesn't mean it doesn't suit someone else's game. Same reason some players use blades, some use MB's, some use cavity backs. Some use 3 or 4 hybrids some use none at all. The real illusion is that there is only one or two types of clubs for all players or a given loft for each club that is going to work for everyone.
@MegaBensley
@MegaBensley 6 лет назад
Would you recommend these irons for someone who has a tendency to flip / scoop through impact and subsequently has a mega high ball flight as I am adding loft to each club in my bag. Obviously fixing the problem is the best solution, but I have some deeply engrained habits so that might be easier said than done. Cheers Rick, great video and interesting to see how the different clubs stack up.

Rick why such the negative review all the other clubs got a fair comparison on a course and close data review with GC quad. Please be fair to the players who bearly make it to 150 yards carry with our 7 iron. I remember when you started you encouraged the higher handicap players to get your mid handicapper to hit them and or a player who struggles with distance. @gaylordgolfer
@gaylordgolfer 6 лет назад
I think the point is that these clubs don't give you distance. They just stamp a different number on the head and knock a quarter inch off the shaft. Why does it matter what number is stamped on the head, if the lofts are so jacked up?
@cadwellcollins3663
@cadwellcollins3663 6 лет назад
If the weight is pulled off the face and lowered it is easier to hit not to mention the offset helps to get the ball up up the air. I make the assertion that you can do more with these clubs than standard loft clubs you just have to rethink how you play your irons. a set could start with 6 through approach wedge.
@cadwellcollins3663
@cadwellcollins3663 6 лет назад
Even if I move up a tee box playing a long par 4 or 5 would it not make sense to be able to get to the greens in regulations with a 7 or 8 iron in my hands that gives me confidence ,easier to hit rather than a 5 or 6 iron that is harder to hit with conventional lofts.

I "hard stepped" my clubs, meaning the heads were removed, and put on longer shafts. For example, the PW head was put on an 8i shaft, all the way up to my 5i head on a 3i shaft. My 3w is on a 44" shaft instead of a 43", and my driver is on a standard 45". I don't play in a windy area so the carry distances are great, and the ball stops like a dart. I absolutely love it.

Tried these clubs out at the store against my current Ping g25. They certainly go longer but more importantly they did not go longer at the cost of accuracy. I hit about 15-20 yards longer with essentially an identical shot grouping. As a 14 handicap I tend to have issues with the longer irons. 6 can be fine one day and a mess the next. 5 I pretty much gave up on. However I tested the 5 iron for this set and found it incredibly easy to hit(straight and long). Looking forward to improving my handicap. For all the crap these are getting for the loft angles I think they are some pretty good clubs.
